Ford does shit ass backwards sometimes. "Let's make a transmission that is a bitch to be serviced" oOh yeah, if there's any issues let's make sure no one can easily check the fluid levels! Oh YEA LETS NOT HAVE A DIP STICK EITHER.
My rrans started slipping, went to a shop, the mechanic ran it on the machine, and told me I needed a new trans. My neighbor told me to have the fluid changed, something I asked the mechanic to do so we can see if that will help. After seeing this video, I'm going to go to another mechanic to see what he says. I think this might be all that I need. My brother (RIH) was my mechanic, I'd work on cars with him. Now everyone wants to rip me off. Thank you for this video.
Very well done, sir. What a pain! Just hit 160k on an ‘03 and shifting is pretty harsh. Your video likely just saved my transmission and bank account. Thank you!
Mines is at 230k I believe on the original fluids I just bought it 2 months ago its an 05 was thinking of doing a transmission fluid flush since it's giving me hard shifts....any thoughts
@@DirdeeDan Just drain and fill. A flush is likely to break metal shavings apart and cause issues. Unless it has been flushed regularly since day 1, it's not worth the risk
I am original owner of 02 explorer. I have changed Trans fluid at every 50,000 miles. Got 190000 miles and no problems. Best thing to do to keep the Trans running trouble free. Great advice...
2nd owner I believe 2005 ford explorer XLT I was driving my car no noises running good and I stopped for gas and it would not go into park. So I tried going back through all the gears and then back to part and it worked. I put gas in and started the car and when I shifted back to drive then applied the gas and no noise again but it only revs the engine no pull at all same for all gears anyway what could have happened still trying to figure it out but I don't know where to start
What is that tool called that you used while putting the fluid back in that you said you made yourself? Im looking to do this on my 2004, this video helped me feel pretty confident in doing so, but i dont know what that tool is called
Please respond anyone ASAP what is the piece called (the nut & the middle piece called so that I can get a replacement, mine has stripped and is stuck in there and is a PITA to replace the fluid without the ability to take the mid piece out.
@@jrm163 Hell no. I think he meant 1.25 gallons. About 6 quarts. I have seen others use 5 quarts. He should have changed the filter too. Mine is a 2004 V-6 and I change it every 20K. Still going strong fingers crossed that it holds together - same for that 4.0 motor that has 4 timing chains and cassettes.
I don't think you got the level right. It is supposed to be drip.pause.drip.pause.drip - In your video yours was gurggling slowly but continuously. I would re-level your fluid since you probably have too much in there.

So wen ur almost done pumping u start it or take pump off wen it’s done an start it ?
* part is called ; Tranmition fluid fill adapter ..
Howd you make that special tool?
Yes, how many quarts did you use?
That’s what I wanted to know as well.
Good job buddy, illustrative video.
Thank you so much.
I'm going to go do mine right now
Is that a part from the brake line
What is the name of the tool??
There’s no fill plug ?
That IS the fill plug. 😄

5 to 6
What’s size is the threads on the nibble
What size socket is he saying we need? What's the other tool he says I need I'm the very beginning of the video?

You’ll need a suction pump and an adapter to connect the pump the the trans
What is the name of the tool you used with the pump?
My is 2004 still perrona 👊😎
I didn't see when you put the oil on
Is there another brand of transmission flui. that meets oem .

Transmission fluid plug
Where did you get the part that push into the plug to pump the fluid in. Having a hard time finding something to fit
Please check at Advance auto or Auto one. If you still cannot find one, please look it up on eBay.
@MyDIYGarage 2020 what's the name of the part

1/8 NPT x 3/8 barb from lowes or home depot
@@mydiygarageeveryone asking the name of the part.
Can you tell us so we can look it up?
If my cars already pulling does that me my transmission fluid is gone. Or is my transmission completely done
You mean, the transmission is jerking or has hard shifting?

Does my 2004 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L use Mercon V or Mercon LV?
You must check the specs on your vehicle by Ford. Most 2002-2005 takes Mercon V.
Mercon LV goes to Transfer Case
God Bless you and your family in The Name of Jesus Christ for Making This Video!!
How many quarts did you use?
About 1.25qt
So little? Seems you drained more than that. One way people do is to measure how much drained out and then fill the same amount in.

He did it correctly
@@kentduggan8626 No, he didn't.
He shoulda let more out til it dripped only
It holds 11 quarts I don't think a spoon full either way is relevant but thanks for your concern
It is all relevant. Same thing servicing IDG on aircraft. After service need to let excess overfill drip. Too much will cause more problems believe me
smh another ford mistake for this procedure lol
This video could've been so much better its not thanks for nothing
