    you can't put halogen bulbs in a xenon system, they would fry like mad from the high xenon voltage. You would have to rewire the car to use normal 12 volt power

      I’m doing just that on my 08 Prius. I’ve got new headlight assemblies, H4 wiring and switching relays to toggle between low and high beam. The Prius with HID uses a shutter instead of different filaments.

    Got your e mail about my headlights and doing the changing of the bulbs.

    those bulbs do dim with age, means they are wearing out, and realize if you change one, odds are the other one will burn out soon after due to extra voltage of a new one installed.

    certainly they are knocking em up a ton, cause in my video on installing aftermarket hids, the cost of the entire kit, two xenon bulbs, the wiring, and two ballast resistors was 59 dollars. so they aren't that expensive to make really. It's always new technology that ripps people off until someone else decides to join in and lower the price.

    I have it in some of my maintenance videos, but it's so simple. Do it first thing in the morning when cold using a gauge. Best to have one of those little air pumps that plug into the cigarette lighter so you can fill em up at home, cause when you drive to a gas station, tires heat up and give inaccurate readings then

    I didn't even know they made HID lights back in 2003. My mechanic thought the ballast might of went bad in my 03 nissan altima so I ordered a HID kit for it. It was totally different than what I was seeing on youtube. Come to find out, the 03 altima 3.5 LE SE had a sports package and it came with HID head lights, stock. I've found these lights for $19.99, but at auto zone one bulb is $100!

    i am happy with my little Citroen it's a small and fast car and when it has a problem it easy for me to fix it by myself i just had the hole head replaced and head gasket and done it by myself and it took me just a couple of hours to do without having any experience with repairing cars

    The smaller the body of the car which leads to a lighter in weight as that makes sense, but making it where you gotta undo a lot of things just to change a bulb is purely crazy indeed. My 2006 KIA speactra alternator is real fun to replace, as I got to remove many things before I can even get the thing out, like the cooling fan, the coolant holding bottle, that not the best part yet, the part is near the hot exhaust manifold, which I end up burning myself trying to undo it connections then, FUN

  • @scottykilmer

    try to find a wiring splice kit from Mits, but if they don't sell one, you will have to make your own using wiring, connectors, and a lot of solder as they use a lot of power.

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    it is, BUT at this cost most people do one at a time. In halogen bulbs of course, do both, discount stores sell em for 5 bucks apiece

  • @patricknedz
    @patricknedz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Never thought it would be so difficult to change the light bulb. It burned out on my 2005 Sonata, don't even remind me of that. Why do they make changing the bulb so difficult? I had no trouble changing the tail light or the fog lights, but the low beam headlight was the worst.

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  10 ปีที่แล้ว

    then rewire them first, using quality wire and solder the connections on something which uses that much power. Cut away all the old wires, so check them back from the lights until they are not falling apart, then cut that part off

  • @scottykilmer
    @scottykilmer  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    many things can do that, pray it's something simple like a bad thermostat or a cooling system merely low on coolant. Being low, the heater does not get hot water in it so you get no hot air. Past that, it gets complex with those computer run heater systems.

    Pop up headlights FTW. So much easier to replace bulbs in. Only reason you have to open hood at all is to unscrew 2 screws on the back of the plate of the pop up healights. Then you can close the hood if you want while doing the replacing.

    Scott - Thatnks for the Quick Video - I have a 2011 Cadillac SRX with HID Headlights - Condensation/leaky headlights is a known problem in this model - my passenger lo-beam/headlight stopped working the other day. I wanted to see if it was the Bulb or another component that was the issue. 1st I decided to switch the HID bulbs to see if it would work on the Driver side - When I did that I was only getting Highbeam to work on the Driver side. Is it possible for HID to work as Highbeams but no function on lowbeam setting? I got in way over my head on this but your video was really helpful - my HID bulbs & the Ballast connection look exactly the same as the ones in your video so I wanted to see if you had any advice for me. Looking online it looks like it would cost me $1500 for each headlight assembly & that is wild. I noticed some corrosion on the passenger side connections. if I can get the hi-beams/lo-beams working again then it seems like i would have to get the headlights adjusted as well. I apprecaite any help.

    Nice video, Scotty. I've got a 2008 Mercedes CL550, on which I'd like to change the Xenon bulbs. They still work okay, but after this many years they could probably use a refresh. What about all the warnings on the car about working w/ 25,000 volts and only let a dealer touch it? What is the scenario where I'd get fried? I've seen plenty of people accomplish this without a problem on TH-cam.

    Hi Scotty, The headlight bulb in my 2007 Lexus ES350 has been flickering. I am sure the buld needs to be replaced. My car has the premium plus package so I am pretty sure it is a xenon bulb. The area is covered by what looks to be a twist cover like this video. I have changed out bulbs before but hear that I could be severely shocked when changing this xenon bulb. The Haynes manual says to have a mechanic do it but Internet videos suggest I can do it. I disconnected the battery's negative terminal a few days ago but have concerns about the capacitor or another area holding a residual charge. Thank you for any guidance you can provide this novice hack.

    I remember, I had to replace one of my Xenon bulbs on my BMW X5, and I will agree with you Scotty that one bulb is about 170 dollars. The BMW dealer wanted 300 dollars for the bulb. Instead, I went to my BMW specialist & he charged me 150 dollars. After buying the bulb, I went to my local mechanic and he replaced the old bulb. I only paid 47 dollars for the labor. If I went to the dealer they would of charged me 500 dollars.

    One of mine went bad on my car last week and it liked to turn off a minute after running and before that, it would turn purple. That's a hallmark sign of a xenon bulb going bad. My dad said I need a wiring harness and the bulb was perfectly fine. After taking out the bulb, the xenon part was completely black. Lol. You know your car better than any mechanic out there folks. Listen to it and practice common sense. If the lights don't work, check the bulbs not something else.

    Hi Scotty, i have a question with the same kind of tranny. Its the 5r55 out of a Lincoln ls 2001. I know the common and secret problem on theses tranny is that the 2 servos pins ( mainly the O/D one) rubs and wear against the tranny case ( aluminum) and eventually oil loss occurs, than low pressure, bad shifting. One option is to drop the tranny, rebore the 2 servo holes and put brass sleeves in them.
    But is there a product strong enough that could also do the trick and seal this type of leak?

    S2000s are the same way you have to pull the whole bumper off to replace the light bulbs. Its very tedious but I still love that car.

    as I said, customer wanted car fixed that day, only the toyota dealer in town had the bulb in stock. Believe me, no customer's going to wait on ebay for lights at night.

    You know just one of these videos I'd like for someone to actually show you how to remove or unclip that little metal clip. I spent so much time and everybody skips over that what seems to be simple part but it is actually the hardest part of the job

    Scotty my car overheats cause my fans dont kick on. But they do work wheb i turn my ac on. As soon as i turn the ac off the fans turn off to. I changed my temp sensor. Is it that my cooling system might still have air in it? Or might i not have enough coolant?

    Hey Scotty, I just bought my dream car ('90 Nissan 300ZX 2+2)! Unfortunately, @ the cost of some issues. The main one being; the oil pressure gauge is now on 0psi. While I was taking out the fog lights yesterday, I reached up behind the housing, my hand hit something, nd got oil on my hand. Now I realized tht there is a small oil leak (about the size of 3x5 notecard over the course of about 6 hours). Don't really know 4 sure if it was leaking b4 the incident, or if I somehow caused it. PLZ HELP!

    make sure it was stabbed back correctly into the engine, because if the timing is off it will do exactly that. those old things are pretty basic, no sensors I've ever seen on one.

    You can save a ton of money by buying a pair aftermarket bulb for about $30, say at DDMtuning. Then when the other bulb goes out you can replace it too with no more expense. $175 is ridiculous and nobody should do that.
    For aftermarket HID kits that aren't d4r or d4s, you can often get a pair of HID bulbs for $15 or so on Ebay.
