"... Granted it is a small market " 🤐 It's awesome to see a bike with this geometry though - it's great to see something built elegantly within such specific tolerances
LOVE that this video focuses so much on shorter riders!! I am a 158cm lady and what a nightmare it is in terms of bike choices PLUS the need to swap cranks, stems and handlebars even on the smallest frames. I have a Rose sl disk pro 45cm and a Diverge 44cm - but after this video I am definitely craving the Pinarello X. Just hope other brands follow the trend to tend to ALL riders, especially at the top bike segment (eg Specialize only carries 44 in more base variants - not the S-Works) Cheers and Kudos for the video!
I have an Canyon endurance CF SL DI2 small frame. At 5’ 10” I was surprised their app selected that frame size but it fits great. My local bike shop assembled it ( they only do a full assembly) which I thought was wise for them and ensured everything was done right. It’s been 3 years now and I think it was a great choice. I bought it because of the reviews and I needed DI2 because I can only operate the paddles from the left side due to partial use of right hand and it was the cheapest DI2 I could find with endurance frame. Have it programmed to synchronize shift with just the left paddles. Works great. My bike shop has no problems working on it and has supported me well.
The Sarto is very interesting, I never thought about with people with dwarfism riding a bike. But it's great that they are catered to even with a complete custom build.
Sarto makes custom frames only. That even includes the paintjob. These frames are still cheaper than the China-made, vomit-inducing ugly pieces of crap offered by Pinarello.
It still has an adjustable handle bar (width wise) and a properly "endurance" lax geometry and stems that "make sense" and not 100mm+ stems. It's still much more adjustable and fits more than other fully integrated road bikes so yes should make the list.
Many Endurace builds come without the integrated bar/stem. The only hurdle at that point is finding stems for the wonky 1 1/4"/31.8mm steerer tube (canyon, zipp, ritchey, and giant all sell some).
Completely agree on the Canyon seatpost, I got one because my brother changed it out. I have put it on multiple bikes and even go through the trouble of changing it out on bikes just for 1 ride. Gamechanger and surprised other brands arent picking up on it
Hey James, I remember you complaining how hard it is to find short cranks. Croder, a Taiwanese brand, make cranks from down to 140 mm, as well as a fitting set that's adjustable from 180 zo 140 mm and some other cool knicknacks. Thought you might be interested.
+1 for the Fairlight Secan. You’re spot on about the range of sizes. I got one because the 56R has the same stack and reach as my racing bike, so I can set it up with the same position, 35 mm tyres and mudguards for winter use, then lose the ‘guards and fit nice fat tyres for summer off-road riding. Top piece of kit, rides well and looks mint too.
I solved the short legs problem with Evil Chamois Hagar (small frame) - totally cool bike for an out-of-the-box experience for someone with 27-inch inseam and the seat can be lowered 3 inches more!
Ridley helium, with ultegra r6800. My first fully custom, self build roadbike and its great! Good cable routing, super lite, rim brakes and fulcrum quattro alloy wheels. Fits perfect with integrated 110/400mm stem and rides super fast.
Thanks for the Video. I ride a Cube endurance Roadbike in 62. i Need the Stack but the reach was far too long. Now it fits with a 60mm stem and und the saddle positioned completely forward. I will take a look at that pinarello
Good to see that Pinarello does a shorter, higher bike that does not look boring. I still love my Supersix Evo. Also shorter and higher than most race bikes and is available in non-boring colours.
So glad to see you include the SB140. I can’t agree more. Since the 1989(ish) Yeti Ultimate, I’ve tried tons of Yeti products. The SB140 is the most fun a mountain biker can have with their clothes on.
I have been shocked so many times how much people are willing to spend on top end race bikes that they can't even ride because of the geometry. I have shopped multiple of these bikes second hand that barely have any kms on them.
People buy them as status symbols, to show off their wealth and their ability to buy them. Those bikes are ultimately luxury items, much like an expensive Swiss made watch, designer Italian suit or German sports car.
My Mondraker Level is my favourite bike, i'm not really fit enough to smash the climbs on a mountain bike so love getting additional miles on a ebike in the window I have available.
I’ve learned a ton from these fit videos. I feel I’m even helping other cyclist I encounter with the shorter reach being better for most concept. That Pinarello looks sweet. And yes four and a half K is expensive. Appreciate him keeping it real.
I just turned a cannondale slice thats one size too big into a Road bike. I just gotta keep in mind to always have a safe place to jump off whenever i stop. Track stand improved, i wouldn’t ride in the rain. To level up the anxiety i decided to try tubular. Sense of not feeling the road i think it’s pretty crazy. I believe with enough miles in the setup going to a normal Roadie i would be able to just Ride and lose the urge of tinkering
Am trying to decide my next bike purchase. Fairlight Secan was being considered. After seeing it on this list and being 6'5" I think that's the decision made!
I've been looking for high quality gear that fits my size (6'7" long torso), do you have any recommendations for bike clothing that might fit? Everything I've found is very generic and boring.
@@unknowablerootvegetable Afraid I don't have any good recommendations. Things I have tried are: Endura, Rapha and DHB. Endura are uncomfortably short. Bib shorts particularly. Rapha bought at a warehouse sale. Again, bib shorts are too short in the shoulder to crotch length. DHB are actually ok in size for shoulder to crotch length but the quality isn't there. What a wonderfull bike for Giles!!!! thats awesome!!! i think we should have a video with Giles, and let him talk about bike fit, and the joy of riding a bike, and the difficulties of riding with having dwafism.
Love the look of the Pinarello but as an Audax rider in the UK you are expected to fit mudguards. So something light, fast and comfortable with appropriate fittings is what I'm looking for.
Well, you choice is not big.. it is either Cannondale, Look, Fairlight or custom. Other bikes are doomed to be fitted with ugly clip-on mud guards... You can also go custom or buy a gravel bike. At least there will b enough space for proper mud guards like Honjo with 32mm tire..
@@glennoc8585there not very good and despite use of helicopter tape you will likely end up with some paint damage where they mount. More importantly they are just not as effective as mounted guards.

That i can ride it endless. 200k without pain ❤❤❤
It's literally impossible for me to get a comfortable bike because I have an insanely high inseam to height ratio (~0.5). Great to see more high stack / low reach bikes coming to market
The midget bike is really cool. Only thing I'd like to see is some sort of carbon fiber arm that maybe attaches to the seat post and curves up and around above the tire to allow a bag & rear light to be attached like a Garmin radar needs to be unobstructed.
Lol that Pinarello has goofy stack numbers :) I quite like my Orbea Orca for having generous stack on a bike that is still short / steep head tube / fun to ride. But at the same size there's like 40-50mm more stack on that goofy thing :)
Would be interested in your thoughts on the Look 765 Optimum, seems like it makes use of a similarly genuine "endurance" style geometry as the new Pinarello X ( unlike most other Endurance named bikes which seem to have stupidly long reach!)
I feel like James' musings are always very well reasoned (even if I don't necessarily agree with all of them 100%). Love this guy. We all want more James.
That sarto looks a lot like the HUPP bikes that kidsracing sell. I guess they both share a similar aim of small person on 700c wheel. Kidsracing sell lots of stuff for fitting smaller people and are really expert and good to talk to.
An issue with smaller widths in handlebars is the lack of control for smaller people, who may lack the upper body strength of a bigger person. This is therefore another variable, that is not easy to account for.
Wish there were more geometry options out there like the Pinarello X, but with a lighter frame and high end groupset options. Not sure why every manufacturer seems to deem it necessary to build gimmicks into the endurance bike or assume that endurance riders only want a 105 groupset - is it too much to ask for a shorter/taller version of a standard race bike? Colnago used to offer High geometry on their C-Series, but even they stopped that with their new C68.
XC bikes with 'Modern Geometry'. I have a 2016 Merida Big Nine and its easy to get 60-65mm saddle setback. My 2023 Merida Big Nine allows for a MAXIMUM of 35mm saddle setback, so I have a lot of weight on the hands. I don't understand the move to steeper seat angles for all XC bikes... :(

It's also worth noting/keeping in mind that at least a couple of these brands have been flagged for poor quality production (looking at you, Canyon and Open!) by others 👀
Pinarello is a "fabulous" looking bike? Also, stem length is a zillion times more important than handlebar width. Unbelievably, Canyon does not let you specify a stem length even though it is sold online. Every online bike seller I've encountered lets you specify a stem length, bar width, and sometimes even a crank length(unimportant).
Well, its certainly up to current standards of fashion, aka "innovation": an overcomplicated, integrated clamping mechanism at the non-standard seatpost, two sorts of bespoke spacers at the headset, total integration from the handlebar on for a maximum of service costs. Everything that makes cycling more expensive.
They can be very comfortable if you take your stretching seriously. On my new bike I lowered my stack by 50 milimeters compared to the old bike and my back pain is gone. I can also produce more power, because I can engage my glutes properly.
Can I ask a quick Bike fit Question? My main road bike has 170mm cranks, but my new gravel bike has 172.5's. Should I swap the gravel to 170s to keep the biomechanicals loads the same??
James! Thanks as always for doing these videos with him. Wish I could afford to fly across the pond to get a fit with him but I'm afraid that just isn't going to happen.
l like they make a 24 road wheel n tires l wonder if a 26 is also available which would be great for kids too the next issue would a short reach road levers that ld fit their smaller hands . AND $4500 pinarello is that a complete bike or just a frame ??
Another great video, thanks guys. I ride a Dogma F10 and have been looking for a more comfortable option without compromising too munch on style and purpose. The Pinarello X was recommended to me, as well as the De Rosa Merak and their new model, the 70. I wonder if they offer similar ride comfort than the X. Any thoughts on these two?
I’ve got the previous gen Endurace with a cockpit that’s way too long and wide. As Canyon don’t sell them separately I’m really struggling to find aftermarket options
Since that brand went into carbon about 20 years ago, their frames have indeed looking like shriveled 🍆s. Before that they had their steel and aluminium frames made by Sarto, a company that knows how to build beautiful frames.
Hi, I love your videos, they are all great. Do you have any experience with Lapierre Xelius bikes? There are few reviews, I own one (6.0) and am very happy with it but would be interested in professional review not from Lapierre... thank you if you receive and read this message 😊
I think you‘re wrong about the minimum width of the Canyon Aero Cockpit. I‘m pretty sure it‘s 39 cm at the narrowest setting. You can only go up to 41 and 43 cm from there.
Can we get more on Giles' Sarto once its built up and being ridden? Thats a super cool story and be cool to see it fully completed

The Pinarello X was recommended to me, as well as the De Rosa Merak and their new model, the 70. I wonder if they offer similar ride comfort than the X. Any thoughts on these two?
That Yeti is a beast!
I’ve got the previous gen Endurace with a cockpit that’s way too long and wide. As Canyon don’t sell them separately I’m really struggling to find aftermarket options
You could convert it to a normal bar and stem, or Pro does a cockpit that fits 1 1/4" steering tubes as well.
that Sarto is magic
What's your opinion on the Cinelli Nemo Tig Gravel?
Hats off to the SB140 fucking great such a good bike
Seeing the Yeti on here made my day
A heavy Penisrello, what a surprise. And it's expensive. Kudos for the number of sizes.
James did a sales plug for Pinarello here 😅.
I think you‘re wrong about the minimum width of the Canyon Aero Cockpit. I‘m pretty sure it‘s 39 cm at the narrowest setting. You can only go up to 41 and 43 cm from there.
Hi, I'm curious what do you think about Merida Silex (gravel bike). Is it possible to fit this bike? Btw I'm 194 cm tall and bought XL. Cheers!
Oh no, hope Andy recovers fast and well!
