    Fog reminds me of the story of the tailor who told an Emperor that he was wearing the most valuable suit in the world, that suit would not be visible to the unworthy. Since no one wanted to seem unworthy, they would not admit that in reality the emperor was naked? Including the Emperor himself...
    Lorenzo is a genius, just like the tailor, the emperor represents the consumer and the public who are just tagging along not wanting to look unworthy...

    Fear of God is no longer a street wear brand it's a luxury brand. I've been collecting Fear of God since collection 1 but I haven't bought a piece since collection 5. The price point is out of my range and the clothes are not worth me buying because they are not everyday wear pieces. Collection 1-5 were really streetwear but his ultimate goal was always to be a RL type designer and he has always stated as such in his interviews leading up to where he is now. None of the brand development was a surprise if you were paying attention to what he was saying and how the brand was emerging / developing.

    What if yzy and fog were to collab? Think it’ll be something great? Also, how to connect about a clothing brand. I’ve thought about it, got a few weird ideas but not sure how to get started.

    I do not consider FOG a luxury brand, It is to me a high end casual wear brand, that occasionally offers a selection of quality tailored pieces. Luxury it is not. High end, over priced, retail street wear it is. Please do not compare it to RL. Luxury is Haute Couture. I will debate this with you anytime you would like. We have seen dozens of brands built in our lifetime. Its a long list. If you want to speak to specifics of an American born designer becoming a longterm name,there's an argment,but even then. What about Marc Jacobs,Tommy, Halston and RL were pioneers and Virgil was well on his way to becoming synonymous with fashion,entertainment and commercial products. FOG is big,but history is a cruel teacher when it comes to American Fashion designers long-term.

    Its my understanding that "inspiration" or outright plagiarism is commonplace and to a certain extent, accepted and correlated with trends. With that said, Jerry is Kanye's son and as far as I'm concerned, Rick Owens is Jerry's Granddaddy. LOL
    Edit: I do think his business model is smart and his work has been evolving which is a good thing. But the trends shift, Ralph Lauren will still be here so no, FOG is not timeless.

    • @planetbrooklynacademy
      @planetbrooklynacademy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I respect your view. I agree that RL will be around forever and I can also see your point about Rick Owens influence on Jerry. But you are wrong in calling Jerry, Kanye son. You giving him credit he don't deserve. Jerry launched FOG in 2012/13. Virgil knew Jerry and wanted to introduce him to Kanye. Kanye then asked him to create the product for his Yeezus tour. That is the extend of Kanye's involvement with Jerry. Now if you want to call Virgil, Ye son I won't argue you on that.

    • @adventsociety5382
      @adventsociety5382 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@planetbrooklynacademy How they met is significant but not tangential. Not denying Jerry's hand in the Yeezus merch vision but Wes Lang is the unsung hero of that story in my opinion.
      Before Yzy Szn 1, Jerry was known for his great use of layering including the zip hem denim, distressed flannels and band tees, if memory serves correct.
      I attribute some of his early on success to his plethora of celebrity cosigns and connections, but I would argue that the FOG collections 1- 4 were his best and most authentic stuff and legitimately looked good.
      ESSENTIALS' popularity and success has effectively rendered FOG as "niche luxury" likening the brand to some of the industry's heavy hitters. But in my eyes its ESSENTIALS that has Ye's name all over it and its Jerrys biggest commercial success to date.
      I will concede that there is a chance, Ye is not the father because i wasn't actually there for the creative process of either projects so this all merely speculative as they could have inspired each other. LMAO

      I'm glad someone else sees it too. I've been saying for the longest, Jerry just rips off Rick Owens. Now I know I'm not crazy.
      Great video. I disagree with Jerry's line being around for the long haul. I personally think his clothing is too gimmicky, for lack of a better word, and with his new super oversized looks make the clothes look like they have no form. Everybody just looks like they're drowning in fabric. I see people getting tired of that overtime cause I don't understand how clothes that oversized can be comfortable. If he does last, then more power to him.

    • @planetbrooklynacademy
      @planetbrooklynacademy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vekksblackman thanks fam. Glad you enjoyed the video. I would agree with you on the aspect of Jerry being influenced by Rick Owens. But trust me he will be around for a long time. If you look at the high fashion brands clothing, not the retail stuff, the items they show on the runways, Jerry’s stuff is very much in line with it. Yes the oversized items will get tired but look at what level he’s putting that on. It’s not part of his top tier stuff. It’s for the more mass. He knows what he’s doing. That’s why I say he’ll be around. But I can respect you perspective on how you view his brand. Guess time will tell.
