"Making The Brand: The business of starting a clothing line from the ground up"
tinyurl.com/yx8...
Jerry Lorenzo has created something with his brand that the rest of use didn't even realize he was doing. It takes a extremely clever, methodical individual to pull off what he did.
EP.43 Making The Brand (MTB) is a video series explaining how to properly start a clothing business from concept to product and everything in between, inevitably helping you to go from clothing line to clothing brand.

Fog reminds me of the story of the tailor who told an Emperor that he was wearing the most valuable suit in the world, that suit would not be visible to the unworthy. Since no one wanted to seem unworthy, they would not admit that in reality the emperor was naked? Including the Emperor himself...
Lorenzo is a genius, just like the tailor, the emperor represents the consumer and the public who are just tagging along not wanting to look unworthy...
Very interesting perspective.
Fear of God is no longer a street wear brand it's a luxury brand. I've been collecting Fear of God since collection 1 but I haven't bought a piece since collection 5. The price point is out of my range and the clothes are not worth me buying because they are not everyday wear pieces. Collection 1-5 were really streetwear but his ultimate goal was always to be a RL type designer and he has always stated as such in his interviews leading up to where he is now. None of the brand development was a surprise if you were paying attention to what he was saying and how the brand was emerging / developing.
100%
The quality was never worth the price point. Yall support cults so easily. Is the creator even God fearing when the price point is ungodly????
That’s why essentials is one his best works everyday wear especially in these colder months
@@planetbrooklynacademyI can’t buy since it’s diabolical?
@@hugorosario7154 Sure you can. I was just saying that Jerry's approach was genius, evil genius level.
That clickbait ass title ain’t it. Don’t do that, it cheapens your channel. I thought you were going to say something crazy but no, you said nothing of value my guy. The most interesting part was that tmz ass title.
Bro tight 😂😂😂
Hope you can get to 100k my guy, thanks for all your knowledge you’ve put out here, has helped me with my line man!
Thank you! I'm thankful that my knowledge has been able to help you. Hearing this makes it all the more reason for me doing this.
Just got into the Mainline Fear of God and I am obsessed, was introduced through essentials but it’s now mainline or no line for me
❤❤❤
If yall looked at the Quality Control of FOG yall wouldn’t buy a single thing which is sad because the aesthetic is nice.
i just watched shift absolutely expose the 1000 sweatpants that are no better than a 30 dollar pair
crazy what people will spend money on for a brand name
Im glad somebody said it.
💪
I've subscribed. I hope your channel grows more. ❤
Thank you fam! New content coming soon.
I would say Mike Amiri also created a Luxe brand from scratch in one generation
I would agree with you too. But FOG has definitely received the most light.
Essentials started as Fog which was a diffusion line that morphed into Essentials I have some of the early pieces
Thats what I said. I'm glad you recognized that and was a head of the hype.
What if yzy and fog were to collab? Think it’ll be something great? Also, how to connect about a clothing brand. I’ve thought about it, got a few weird ideas but not sure how to get started.
Thats an interesting idea of those to collabing. But I don't think that would ever happen. Its like you would never see LV and Gucci do a collab.
This is the best video I have watched online
Thank you fam.
yall we gotta get him to 100k 👏
💪💪💪
I subscribed a week back. Im confident you’ll get there in 8 months
Thank fam! We'll get there.
Who is god and why would you fear her?
Thanks for this! Can you explain how other luxury brands have pyramids? Like what other brands is directly under LV or Gucci in different price points like FOG/Ahtltcs/Essentials?
I appreciate your support. I actually explain it in a previous video. Check it out here. I think you'll find all the answers there.

what about tom ford, rick owens, or Off White? these are also american luxury brands that have been created in our lifetime.
Yes they all are, but compare all those you listed to FOG. They weren't built as 3 tier brands.
Great insights! I really like the Fear of God line
I agree
They say this about a bunch of brands ppl still wear
Which ones in particular?
Took 2:30 just to start, that aint it
Thank you for pointing that out. Noted for future content.
Just yapping!!!! Yappinese. I still subscribed tho.

You’re diabolical for using a clickbait title.
Its my understanding that "inspiration" or outright plagiarism is commonplace and to a certain extent, accepted and correlated with trends. With that said, Jerry is Kanye's son and as far as I'm concerned, Rick Owens is Jerry's Granddaddy. LOL
Edit: I do think his business model is smart and his work has been evolving which is a good thing. But the trends shift, Ralph Lauren will still be here so no, FOG is not timeless.
I respect your view. I agree that RL will be around forever and I can also see your point about Rick Owens influence on Jerry. But you are wrong in calling Jerry, Kanye son. You giving him credit he don't deserve. Jerry launched FOG in 2012/13. Virgil knew Jerry and wanted to introduce him to Kanye. Kanye then asked him to create the product for his Yeezus tour. That is the extend of Kanye's involvement with Jerry. Now if you want to call Virgil, Ye son I won't argue you on that.
@@planetbrooklynacademy How they met is significant but not tangential. Not denying Jerry's hand in the Yeezus merch vision but Wes Lang is the unsung hero of that story in my opinion.
Before Yzy Szn 1, Jerry was known for his great use of layering including the zip hem denim, distressed flannels and band tees, if memory serves correct.
I attribute some of his early on success to his plethora of celebrity cosigns and connections, but I would argue that the FOG collections 1- 4 were his best and most authentic stuff and legitimately looked good.
ESSENTIALS' popularity and success has effectively rendered FOG as "niche luxury" likening the brand to some of the industry's heavy hitters. But in my eyes its ESSENTIALS that has Ye's name all over it and its Jerrys biggest commercial success to date.
I will concede that there is a chance, Ye is not the father because i wasn't actually there for the creative process of either projects so this all merely speculative as they could have inspired each other. LMAO
@@adventsociety5382 I appreciate your perspective. I always enjoy a good discussion. 😊
I'm glad someone else sees it too. I've been saying for the longest, Jerry just rips off Rick Owens. Now I know I'm not crazy.
Great video. I disagree with Jerry's line being around for the long haul. I personally think his clothing is too gimmicky, for lack of a better word, and with his new super oversized looks make the clothes look like they have no form. Everybody just looks like they're drowning in fabric. I see people getting tired of that overtime cause I don't understand how clothes that oversized can be comfortable. If he does last, then more power to him.
@@vekksblackman thanks fam. Glad you enjoyed the video. I would agree with you on the aspect of Jerry being influenced by Rick Owens. But trust me he will be around for a long time. If you look at the high fashion brands clothing, not the retail stuff, the items they show on the runways, Jerry’s stuff is very much in line with it. Yes the oversized items will get tired but look at what level he’s putting that on. It’s not part of his top tier stuff. It’s for the more mass. He knows what he’s doing. That’s why I say he’ll be around. But I can respect you perspective on how you view his brand. Guess time will tell.
Palm Angels was created in our lifetime too
You are 100% correct. But they are a very unusual brand because they kind of came out of nowhere. Many people on the East coast still aren’t aware of them.
Not every brand does the pyramid
Some may have to start as one to get that market share. Not every brand could replicate the Supreme wave.
No, not every brand does the pyramid, only luxury brands really do.The others are built differently.
What about AMIRI? That was done within our lifetime
Yes you are right. They are also a brand I don't think gets enough recognition. But they aren't a streetwear brand that was built to become a luxury brand.
I do not consider FOG a luxury brand, It is to me a high end casual wear brand, that occasionally offers a selection of quality tailored pieces. Luxury it is not. High end, over priced, retail street wear it is. Please do not compare it to RL. Luxury is Haute Couture. I will debate this with you anytime you would like. We have seen dozens of brands built in our lifetime. Its a long list. If you want to speak to specifics of an American born designer becoming a longterm name, there's an argment, but even then. What about Marc Jacobs,Tommy, Halston and RL were pioneers and Virgil was well on his way to becoming synonymous with fashion, entertainment and commercial products. FOG is big,but history is a cruel teacher when it comes to American Fashion designers long-term.
Thank you for your comment. Its well appreciated. 👍
Before i knew what fog was i would see yuppy people wearing plain ass shit that said essentials and always thought it was ugly. When i found out the price i was shocked. My civil regime hoodies look 1000x better
👍

Ooooooo ok ok I see what your saying and what he’s trying do ! Seeing the forest past the trees is something I been saying lately . My grapes with him and it’s only been since moving to Adidas is him trying to use God & Gods Vision for a Hike up price ! very disingenuous to i”core fans!(2 Corinthians 2:17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit.)
