You can even argue that a good chunk of FOG Essentials found it's place in a mostly middle aged and older crowd (which isn't a bad thing at all, and I could be wrong)
The problem with the mainline is that you have put together a full fit with mainline for it to work. Then it only works on a very specific shape of person. Product shots look great, reality not so great.

Jerry was in his bag during 6th collection and 7th collection. 6th was a maturation of everything he was doing before, and that price point was still crazy for a lot of it but could be justified at least by the fact that it was unique. Its a lot of pieces from that collection that were distinctly FOG, and if you wanted that look you had to buy into the brand. 7th collection is when Jerry first introduced the idea of suiting and formal wear, and again it was cool because it didn't feel like a normal take on that style of clothing that we could go somewhere else to get. Everyone got exposed after Virgil’s passing but yeah being that perfectionist designer comes across very boring and somewhat pretentious especially if your more affordable line is exactly the same design as the high end but then have the audacity to raise the prices on the more affordable line which is actually insulting and you just airing out your dirty laundry. That's the difference between Japanese brands and American brands. American brands like ALD, FOG rely on hype for relevancy. Japanese brands thrive on obscurity.
I wouldn’t even say obscurity. The issue i think with FoG (and most Western brand with a cheaper diffusion label) is that in fashion perspective the cheaper diffusion overshadows the mainline. We see this with Polo's numerous labels. CdG kind of fell into the trappings a few years ago when the heart logo was meme'd out in the fashion world. As someone who wears a lot of Yohji and grew up loving the punk/grunge scene - on paper, FoG is supposed to be my answer to my designated designer, but his mainline pieces are expensive and Essentials plays it way too safe. Yes, Yohji has diffusion labels as well but at least I can easily integrate S'YTE and Ground Y in the more high valued Yohji lines without sacrificing quality. Ultimately, I like Jerry and FoG but I hope he at least follows the Yohji approach where we can see a S'YTE equivalent to FoG where the brand wouldn't have to sacrifice design ethos. He's also at the mercy of marketing towards a Western market where experimental fashion enthusiasts are niche. I think he should do what Virgil Abloh did and test his market in Asia (like Hong Kong) then take steps from there.
Admittedly I have 2 pieces by FOG BUT I have about a closet full of Yohji that extends from Y-3 to Pour Homme. This particular episode was logged in for news. Nothing really happens with Yohji outside of collections, however now that you mention it an episode on Yohji is coming in like a day or so! So everyone eats.
Everything FOG came out with was overpriced, overhyped and got boring. He was on that LA bull shyte like Amari, HUF, DOPE, palm angels, crooks and castle, blvck scvle, DC, DGK, Obey, rocksmith, the hundreds, 10DEEP, stussy and YZY. Jerry is a second third rate Yohji.
While he is certainly important he is simply too volatile of a figure to discuss without causing distraction. To that end we like to keep the discourse w/o unnecessary divisiveness in this space. As a result we find it best to keep those discussions regulated to more insulated academic spaces.
Whatever happened to the ‘conviction’ that Jerry always talked about since the inception of the brand over a decade ago. In my opinion, the fifth collection, 2017 was the last FOG embodied grunge/punk aesthetic. Never thought it would start looking like Zegna or Bottega at Tom Ford prices.
Has anyone EVER made clothes? It takes some time I guess in comparison to fast fashion. I might add, your tshirt isn’t fitting your body correctly. The fit is oversized on what looks like a fit body. Just note you could wear fitted clothes and look striking yet hip at the same time. Some of the oversized look comes from hip hop which comes from jail
You do know you're commenting on a fashion TH-camr who's based in Japan right? Oversized and boxy has been popular in Asia for decades. It's also been on trend in the West for a few years now. Slim fit is an option but it's not the epitome of fashion. Catch up. Also, negating hiphops influence to "jail" has some serious subtle racist undertones. Don't act like you don't know what you're saying with that statement.
Fear of God is struggling not because of their clothes and muted color palette. "It's the economy, stupid." FOG is exorbitantly expensive and they price their clothes as if it's 1999. Today, even the ordinary rich are struggling. Have you seen the cost of flood insurance? Yikes.
With regards to the Adidas collaboration. I just think each party had diffrent expectations on how this was supposed to play out. I also think their was an expectation that Mainline people would be primary consumer for it when the truth is it was the essentials crowd

Who actually wears FOG ?
Reggie probably. Dudes made more vids on fog, than yohji at this point
I wear and love FOG
Noob
Ah-Dee-Daz
Everything FOG came out with was overpriced, overhyped and got boring. He was on that LA bull shyte like Amari, HUF, DOPE, palm angels, crooks and castle, blvck scvle, DC, DGK, Obey, rocksmith, the hundreds, 10DEEP, stussy and YZY. Jerry is a second third rate Yohji.
Why not say Kanye's name? Where would fashion be without Ye?
While he is certainly important he is simply too volatile of a figure to discuss without causing distraction. To that end we like to keep the discourse w/o unnecessary divisiveness in this space. As a result we find it best to keep those discussions regulated to more insulated academic spaces.
Fear Of God is 🔥 Not sure why all the hate.
LoL Nothing about the guy is Our Cultures
So Cool how Our Styles were just hijacked
Fear of God is not going anywhere. JL is here to stay.
Super oversized clothing, and always the same never change’s , sorry only the size changes, they get bigger and bigger 😂😂😂
FOG you say?....I SLEEP
His stuff looks like runway only clothes.
Yikes.
