I know this is just an animation and the movement is kinda robotic. But holy shit you know how to make a halo fan feel. You gave me chills and the morbid feeling just hit me like brick when the marines hugged. WOW that incredibly emotional.
I didn't reset checkpoints but I'd make sure the body was safe until it was despawned. I thought it was like the UNSC recovering the body so the family could have it.

Something like this could have happened to the Marines in CE, or Marines and civilians in Voi when the Flood arrived in Halo 3, and even the Marines who first encountered the flood in Halo Wars.
That'd be hell on earth difficulty, every flood spore is death if they latch onto you and the flood forms hit like a truck in melee.....There's not much hope for a normal human soldier during a flood outbreak...
Right when the flood is about to land on the troopers a spartan grabs it and slams dunk it or an odst tackles it and stabs it then shoots it for extra measures
If you take out the hug, then this is basically re-creation from an actual seem from Halo the Flood (the CE novelisation). Just replace the hug with a lady going through paralysing existential dread and it’s almost dead on.
I used to try and keep the marines alive in the final segment of guilty spark but i realized later it was impossible to keep the entire group alive so i just ran as fast as i could to the exfill believing that the pelican picked up the survivors without any further losses, and for some reason during the cartographer mission i was able to keep a single heavily injured marine alive by virtue of being a turret gunner on a warthog, was never able to replicate that glitch ever since... still doesnt make sense to me that they all die at the end of the mission, when only 1 spec ops elite ambushes you at the end
Warhammer 40k is what Humanity believes itself to be in sci-fi. Halo is the reality of what Humanity becomes in sci-fi. Both are grimdark with different directions.

There are cool moments, characters, and battles and stories but overall the way humanity and the imperium in general are portrayed is just bad. It flys in the face of everything I believe personally. In 40K the imperium survives only by plot armor. In the imperium, every worst trait of humanity is multiplied a hundred fold yet they somehow still manage to stay alive when we know those traits only lead to destruction. The message of 40K, ultimately, is that to defeat a great, terrible, and overwhelming evil, you must become just as evil to survive. Defeat evil with evil. This does not work and so I just can't get into it.
