We just had a training session with Baptist Tavernier the European gentleman you see in this video. He showed us some Jukendo (bayonet fencing) and Tankendo (unmounted bayonet or knife fencing). It was a lot of fun. Very good stuff!
the kiai is basically a war cry that you shout before every duel or exercise begins, or when you hit the designated target area, without it you cant score a point
@@akumabakemono1447 There are always those who do not understand form (kata) - show me any martial art that - superficially - does not look 'silly' to the uninitiated. Yet - ironically - Jukendo and Tankendo are the two forms which have most recently been practiced in actual warfare... When was the last time the majority of forms were practised on the actual battlefield? :)
Great stuff! Shame we can't get tanken here in the States!

Is this available stateside? Checking up, 7 years later
I'm sorta a late comer too! There are still only a couple of dojo in the UK! Seems like this is still a super niche form.
That one young guy in kata look's like Enakin Skywalker
Just wondering. Were those “ya~” necessary? If so, can someone explain?

This is slightly less silly than Jukendo. But only slightly.
They are not silly. What's your problem?
