I have seen those contraptions where you put the scythe in on a pivot and whack the little sliding top tool thing, maybe thats what gave my subconscious the idea
That is very true, they use a specialized anvil, and they also usually go over it once or twice with a sharpening stone. I was curious if you could forgo every step except for the peening
I wholeheartedly believe that everything in life is about technique, not tools. You’ve just got to get your technique down! What sharpeners do you use?
I've always wondered what it would be like to forge steel with a pneumatic aircraft rivet gun. Anywhere from 900 beats per minute to nearly 3000 beats per minute, Hint Hint..
I bought a 7x rivet gun (The largest handheld size) for driving 5/16" rivets,. Apparently the rivet diameter the tool is rated for was for driving the rivets while cold. Not knowing this, I proceeded to heat the rivet orange hot and instantly destroyed it with the full 150 psi my shop air compressor puts out. Suffice to say, if you're looking to get one the cheapest place around is "The Yard Store". I would probably look into getting a 5X .498 shank rivet gun for heavier forge work, beats swinging a 3Lb hammer all day on a huge block of steel. I wouldn't bother with anything smaller than a 4x for steel.@@Anvil_knocker
By the way, planishing the edge of the blade with a hammer is the exact method used to sharpen mowing scythes.

Ooh the celery chopping had such a satisfying sound! Nicely done!
Thank you! Hopefully it balanced out the very unpleasant sound of the hammering
Fascinating, I wonder what that knife would score on one of those weight-based sharpness testers
I actually tested it off camera, here are the results
Sharper than a butter knife, less sharp than a razor blade.
As far as I know peening the edge sharp is how you (traditionally) sharpen scythes.

@@Anvil_knocker I think it's a great exercise, certainly cuts down on grinding right!
"stone age knife"
sir... that is steel. cool video though
For some reason, I had it in my head that because I sharpened it was a rock I should call it Stone Age, but it is most certainly not a Stone Age knife
bro can get a better sharpen with a rock than i can with an actual sharpener

Call this "a guy streaking through a glitter factory" because that's pretty nuts!
Not many comments, make me laugh out loud! bravo sir

I’ve also thought that! Specifically the look standing models for sheets steel, those always looked like power hammers to me…

..AND STILL SLICES A TOMATO!
I know! It was 1 million times sharper than I expected
I’ve been informed this is a Ginsu knife reference, I should have cut through a can
Of all the asinine, ridiculous, stupid, KEEP it up, they thought the man who invented the wheel was crazy.
I’m glad to see somebody else enjoys my strange ideas :)
