We wanted to dive into Cleopatra's full history for this updated video. What do you think of Cleopatra? Do you think she was as beautiful as she is made out to be?
I really enjoyed the video. I was struck by how much the transition from a statue to the digital recreation made her more beautiful looking than I expected. Her statue doesn't really look like much but when you give it color and life, she seems quite pretty. Suggestion: When you have white marble Greek or Roman statues, it would be really cool to see a recreation of how those might have been painted in the era. That would be a nice in-between step. To merge from white statue to painted statue and then to digital recreation.
I’ve seen the other 2 videos. And I’m always impressed and mesmerised. The recreation of her profile in this one is amazing. And the full face also, especially with the Greek styled clothing that she would have worn. Can you make a modern version with this prototype but with curly hair? In any case, that smile at the end is like looking at the face of the women in my Greek family ;) it’s astounding.
I like these suggestions. I wondered why you didn't make her recreation's hair at least a little red, given your report of it having been her color. But your recreation does show that she was a charismatic beauty even though "not altogether incomparable."
Ops. I need to unsubscribe now that I understand that you make your suggestion of famous people from the eyes of an american wiew. You probably believe that there has been a person that was called jesus and that he was a white dude with a beard and the son of a god? The beauty that you make of people from ancient times is just really wrong and has nothing to do with real life.
Everything we know about Cleopatra was written by her enemies, who portrayed her as evil. Yet, she has captivated historians for centuries. Imagine being so extraordinary that even your enemies' attempts to tarnish your image, you continue to fascinate and inspire.
I know right? We're still talking about how beautiful and intelligent she was...and that's coming from people who didn't like her. She's one of my favorite historical figures.
This is one of the most wonderful artistic interpretations of Cleopatra I’ve seen! She is exactly how I picture her in my mind with a Maria Callas likeness (the dark expressive eyes, large nose, diva personality). I think she was maybe not a traditional beauty as she had strong features but was more of an exotic almost intimidating beauty and her personality was honed to be even more attractive. Incredible all these thousands of years later we are still talking about her!
As an avid reader of anything historical, I have thoroughly enjoyed your portrayal of Cleopatra and her place in Greek, Egyptian and Roman history - absolutely fascinating! Thank you 🌻
Cleopatra is such an icon omg! A learned woman and an efficient administrator of one of the most prolific empires. Totally unbiased when I say this is my favourite 🤩
This one was by far the best recreation I have seen. I have always maintained that Cleopatra would have maintained her Ptolemaic Greek heritage in her features since Ptolemy did adopt that custom of intermarriage between siblings.
To all her contemporaries/ancient critics, to today's modern eyes she looks stunning in your recreation, Becca! Statues, as realistic as they can be, will ever get the same effect as looking to a picture in color, that's why your work recreating those historic figures is so fascinating. Giving life and face back to people we could only imagine is just astonishing and honor their memory.
Your work on these videos is truly fascinating. It is amazing how you put together the statues and paintings and convert it into a life like picture of how they may have looked. The history behind each person helps to understand more than just the commons views. The first time I saw an historical person shown "alive", it gave me chills. I love your work/channel!!
Your articulation and delivery are exceptionally clear and calming. You're not giving too much info, but enough for me to dig deeper and research certain characters. I love all of your work! ❤
Royalty Now is definitely my favorite TH-cam channel. Whenever I see a new video in my feed, I get really excited, and then I'm completely enthralled by every single video you do. I also love how you treat each subject with so much warmth and compassion. Thank you so much for your amazing work!
I think your channel is perfection 👍. Love the history part, your beautiful narration and I'm always excited how you make all those personalities come to life at the end. I appreciate your work, thank you 😊🙏
The motion really makes a difference on this one. I always figured she might be the kind of person whose beauty would show best while she was in motion (similar to how some people look ok in a photo but stunning in a video nowadays). It would explain why the sources were so mixed about her being bewitching but not stunningly beautiful too. I think this video helps back that idea up.
What a great video! For many years, I've been fascinated by this period in Roman history. You seem to have got it all right, as far as we can know 2000 years later! 🌺
Hello from a new subscriber! I started to watch your videos at the end of 2024 and have been hooked ever since. I really appreciate what you do and I learn something each time. Thank you for bringing the history back to life for us. I hope one day to see a behind the scenes of how you do the recreations!
I love Cleopatra! She is one of my favorite historical figures. Her life with Caesar and Antony is so theatric. I wonder how she would feel knowing so many people to this day are fascinated by her.
Gorgeous recreation! 😍😍😍💗💗💗💗💓💓 As for presentation, two small mistakes - Antony never surrendered to Octavian (both he and Cleopatra proposed this on condition that Octavian will leave Egypt to their children, but he never answered back) and we don't know if Ptolemy XIII was Cleopatra's full or half-brother.
Extraordinary work as usual. I’ve always wondered what became of her daughter. As far as I’ve been able to research, she fades into history and isn’t recorded in anything we’ve discovered to date.
The story of Cleopatra is truly one that has stood the chance of time (and likely always will). This depiction certainly matches what I see when I imagine her - a regal, imposing appearance that complemented a brilliant mind.
This seems exceptionally close to the narrative told by scholars, but in an easy to follow presentation. Most popular accounts are distorted by certain agendas.
I hadn’t known about Cleopatra’s Greek heritage, in the fine tradition of monarchs being of altogether different nationalities from the people they rule over. Your Cleopatra is beautiful in part because her looks are unique. With those big, expressive eyes I can see her being instantly attractive, with a “big” personality the demands attention without her having to say a word.
Wow, what a stunner! When I visited the British Museum about 5 years ago, I saw a mummy they said was Cleopatra. I was so excited to see her, but was disappointed when I later found out she wasn't THE Cleopatra. Oh well. Was still cool to see nonetheless. Great interpretation of her likeness in this video. I really have enjoyed watching your videos, especially of the Tudor dynasty queens.
One of my favorite historical figures! What a beautiful recreation. Always thought she was a multi ethnic individual considering she has some Syrian ancestry from the Seleucid side of her family (where her name comes from) with a bit of Egyptian as her paternal grandmother hasn’t been confirmed and could have been a concubine of her paternal grandmother.
Gorgeous, captivating and entirely plausible. Thanks for this. Other commenters may want to read Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff, for a portrait of a beguiling, intelligent, powerful monarch primarily interested in taking care of her country.
Thank you, as always,a wonderful recreation ❤ every minute worth to watch ❤ regards from Cologne - maybe one day, I would love to see a recreation of the Roman empress Agrippina, wife of Claudius. She gave Cologne the name 😊
@@2MuchPurple A few of the mummies of the pharaohs have been found that still have their red hair. She may have used henna to match the look, or she could have had it naturally, some definitely did have natural red hair though! And Alexander the Great who conquered Egypt and installed the Ptolemy’s was also fair with either reddish or blonde hair.
As to her race, the inbreeding you mentioned makes it unlikely that her Greek line would have produced anything but a Mediterranean Greek woman. Some have addressed that her half-sister was biracial but therein lay the point... she was a "half" sister meaning by a different mother and the people trying to say Cleaopatra was Native African or biracial can't even accept that much logic. Some have also said she was ugly with a long hooked nose based on coinage depictions when those coins are heavily worn. So I think you did a great reproduction here based on known facts and not ignorance that because she was born in Africa that means she must be Native or black when if that's the case why then aren't all black Americans white? I must also say that when I saw you and the subject of queens popped up, my first thought was you look like Helen of Troy. Please don't take that as an insult but I do find you beautiful in that fantasy type of way and your voice is exquisite. So, have you tried to do a reproduction of what Helen of Troy might have looked like as there are depictions of her but I doubt they're accurate or were made during her lifetime since many don't even think she really existed.
I just had a look and you have covered Helen of Troy and you didn't even use yourself as a reference ;) Forgive that I'm addressing that I think you're beautiful as sometimes I just feel like a toad who can't help but admire the Princess wishing one day I might become a Prince :) But seriously, you are a beautiful young woman and again I ask your forgiveness for saying so as I can tell you are a very serious minded person when making these videos.
I had an amethyst intaglio of her carved for me by the famous intaglio carver Chavdar Chushev based on the Berlin bust. I wear her in a pendant surrounded by diamonds. I’m Greek and she is kinda my hero
You’ve managed to capture the emotive features and expressive eyes that were undoubtedly major players in her legendary powers of seduction. She would have been a remarkable woman in any time and place.
Only one ancient historian described her ever described her as beautiful and Dio lived more than 200 years after her. Plutarch described her as an average looking. Portraits and busts of her indicate a typically Greek woman, shapely, with a strong nose. It was remarked though, by several, that she could speak several languages and had a way of speaking that was captivating and held your attention. As we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ❤😊

Lol Egyptians both ancient to modern are neither black/Bantu nor Sub-Saharan, and North Africans has always been white, regardless of what Afrocentric and black Americans of West African decent claims, appropriating Egyptian identity. The ancestors of all Egyptians migrated from the Fertile Crescent into Egypt through the Nile delta, as the Middle East was the cradle of all white people proven by DNA. And even though numerous invasions and conquests the Egyptian population changed little, as Greeks, Romans, Turks, and Arabs would be very xenophobic and didn’t allow their soldiers/warriors to intermix with the native population, and just because they converted to Islam and adopted Arabic, doesn’t make them Arab. Just like with 1st nations/indigenous Americans, Egyptians are talked about as if they no longer exist which isn’t true at all. Even the Egyptian language was preserved through Coptic.
