Matoaka was so beautiful. I love that you presented her smiling in her home clothes and in her element, a place where I'm sure she was the most happy. May she rest well in peace!
People used to have a very short lifespan before before modern medicine. It's also why people got married younger, had kids younger, etc. Illness and injuries used to be a life sentence instead of "just a scrape"
@@divaofthedamned365 Not entirely untrue of course, but the influence of the high child mortality on the general life expectancy was huge. If you take that out of the statistics, life expectancy was about 65-70 in the eighteenth century. So if a child made it to adulthood, their chances of living a fairly long life were about the same as for people now.
John Smith wrote a lot about “Pocahontas” decades after she had died & was known to fabricate many stories he had told previously, including the story about how she had saved him from being killed by her tribe/father. This makes it difficult to know for sure what actually occurred during her life in “Virginia” while Smith & his people were around.
I was born and raised in Virginia and always felt a connection and fascination for her. Her body still lays in England. I hope one date Matoaka can come back home.
Back in 2001 when I was in 4th grade I did a project on Pocahontas for school. My dad and I went to Jamestown to take pictures and learn more about her ( we live nearby) I’ve had a fondness for her ever since. This was a joy to watch and so well done❤
🥺My mother is Native American and she’d tell us siblings this story. She even knew her real name. Wow..this is fascinating! ✨ I’m not crying, you’re crying. 😂 🪶🦅🙈She’s stunning! ♥️
This may be my favorite of all your videos. Incredible! It’s so moving to see her rendition come to life with the movement and modern day portion. Thank You! Generations of Grandmother’s family were from Virginia and, as is common, were rumored to have descended from the local tribes. I can see the resemblance in a tintype photo of my 2nd great grandmother, and in my Grandma. The latter was known for her high cheek bones, and also had the squarish face & cleft chin. While that DNA has not passed on to me, so many generations later, I feel she’s a kindred spirit. I appreciate your portrayal of this lovely woman. 🪶🤎
@@RoyaltyNowStudios As I understand it, high cheekbones are common among peoples with a long standing and rather recent hunter-gatherer history. Something to do with the diet and life style. Or, rather, evolution responding fairly quickly in human history to the changes wrought by modern diet and life styles... the loss of those features!
LOVE all of your videos!! Thank you for this one. One silly detail that the Disney movie got wrong, is how the Tidewater area looked. There are no romantic waterfalls in the area, and yes, an abundant of pine....
She was a child. I can’t help but feel that she converted because she felt she had no choice. She died before she left England, and never saw her homeland again. Even her bones have never been returned to Virginia.
She was not child in that world. She was viewed as adult. She might be married off by her own people at 13. In Europe in 17th century it was rarity such young person to be married.
She was buried in the chancel of St Georges church at Graves End. But the church burned down and was rebuilt. Searches for her remains have been done, but nothing "conclusive" was found. She wasn't the only person buried there and I don't know what if anything was found. Let her rest in peace.
I am almost 60 years old and remember in 3rd grade when I first learned of Pocahontas. Exotic, a thrill of the imagination. There must have been something un-worldly and loveable for her to be portrayed, consistently, in complete admiration. ❤
That is so moving! As a girl, I wondered about her. What was her life like? Was she happy? My mind wondered. Thank you for this portrayal! Beautifully done!
I have to say that video imagery of her, was so real, you could almost feel her spirit. It was unsettling and wonderful at the same time:) beautiful work.
There IS a portrait of her from her time in England, but I understand going off the engraving. I'm so fascinated that this has even been done. Thank you! 🎉
Remarkable and right on point! My Edwardes ancestor came to Jamestown and lived through the Starving Time...argh...and my first husband was a descendant of Pocahontas. This video was just perfect. Thank you!
I am always excited when I see a Royalty Now new post. This turned out absolutely beautiful and you greatly honored a truly spectacular woman. She made the New World a great service by showing the English that the native people of the New World were just normal people too. Gorgeous artistry and the AI of the wind blowing in her hair…chef’s kiss!!!♥️♥️ THANK YOU!! Cant wait to see what’s next!
Wow. Your recreation makes her look so beautiful. Her dark skin and hair are exactly how a lot of native women look. If she were alive today, I feel she most resembles Amal Clooney. Just my opinion. Thank you for a great video. I love your voice by the way.
I.often just listen to videos in the background. I waited all day to watch this so I could see the video and really pay attention. I never share channels to my social media, but yours is so amazing, I did recommend it to friends and family today. TY for another beautifully done video.
These ladies from the past, when you bring them to life always bring tears to my eyes. Could you do (Saartjie) Sara Baartman’s face. Her life was also quite tragic.
Your videos are amazing for so many reasons. I really enjoy the recreations, this one is one of my favorites so far. And you are absolutely gorgeous. You should continue presenting in person when you can. And your voice is so soothing, it makes a listener want to listen. Thank you for your exceptional content!❤
You and your husband do such beautiful work. So tasteful. I also enjoy seeing you introduce your work and how lovely your voice is. No one could do it better.
It’s wonderful to see you, Becca… I’ve been watching your videos and listening to your beautiful voice for quite a long time and I’m thrilled to see what you look like! You are lovely. Also, I treasure all of your amazing likenesses and the amazing history for each person. Thank you for all of your work and commitment! Bless you ❤️
When my mom researched our ancestry we found that she was a distant grandmother ours on my grandpas side, through Pocahontas’ son Thomas, leading into our Bolling line. It’s so interesting❤️
wait wait....my uncle did a blood test a couple years ago as we knew on my moms side there was east coast Native blood, but he find out that we are from the same blood line as Pocahontas. But its a very small amount as im predominately Cherokee. If what you say is true then we are very distant relatives..lol
Your videos have become my happy place. Beautiful quality and fascinating insight into historical figures. Thank you so much for creating such stunning content 🤍
This was really cool. I hope they make this part of curriculums in middle school and highschool. We get to see actual people in history as if they were standing in front of us, using historical records to recreate thier faces. That is truly fascinating. I hope they do this with other historical figures. this is a great channel.
It's neat to see how much your channel has grown and in your continued progress with your work. Appreciate all your work and in your attempts to bring history to life!
the AI movement photo is just gorgeous...I actually cried a little. The English version she would have most likely have had powdered skin and a possible wig...but either way she is gorgeous
OMG, pure elegance. I know the people of the first nations can look beautiful, but you just beat me over the head with the idea. She is a pleasure to see. From someone who has a Cherokee 8 times removed grandmother on my mother's side. She still looked good even for her age in the old black and white pictures.
Lovely and informative, a beautifully crafted film. I love the look you have chosen for her present day ensemble - the earrings and the rust-colored scarf.
I wish the language survived but I’m happy that some of the Powhatan people managed to still have living descendants ❤. It’s like a faint link to the past.
This is such spectacular work. I love your channel and it's especially great to see you on the videos now as well. This has to be my favorite so far.... who am I kidding, I say this after each of your videos! Well done!
I love your videos, the whole storytelling and of course the great recreations you show us at the end. Thank you very much for all the effort you put in doing them! As for Matoaka/ Pocahontas I loved her most in her element with her native clothes and hair-do and everything about that and the addition of the movement was beautiful too!

How do you know what she looked like?
The fact she was 14 when most of this happened and died at 20...

Is it just me, or did anyone else have to hold back tears when the recreation was revealed? Wow…I felt like I traveled back in time.
Same seeing her stand there, with the motion and the background! I got chills! I could just imagine her back there xxx
Yes, it makes you realize she was just a normal girl who had no idea the mark she would leave in this world.
I did cry indeed. It was beautiful to get to imagine she was like. Makes me want to go back in time to meet her and understand her better.
Especially seeing the image of her in English dress with that tattoo. What a rich story encapsulated in that image.
Absolutely stunning. I love how you bring history so alive. She would be in movies today. Then again…. Hopefully she would be too smart for that. ❤
She was beautiful and noble looking.
The AI version with her hair blowing was lovely 🫶🏻
The motion variant was awesome!
I agree ❤❤
I liked how you did the background movement as well. Much more realistic
