- Brian watched a couple episodes of CSI: Cyber and it all just clicked. So in a manic digi-frenzy he rounded up Jason, Jgor, a Power Glove, and a few 3.5" floppies to really get to the bottom of... DDOS?
Hey dude, nice gui, yeah we get it. You're overclocked and know about ports and packets and stuff. Like, that's cool and all, but don't blast people with (D)DOS attacks. When you do that people make fun of you behind your back and then call the feds.

the first thing is to be done after DDOS is to disconnect the servers or the whole server farm. then start the fixing process( means cleaning the server, looking for possible dangerous rootkits)
but if it's too late then , yes have to shut down all servers,then disconnect.
if there's enough backup servers were backing up the data of those working servers,then good ,if not. then it's gonna be nightmare to recover all data that possibly corrupted by the attack ,specially if the hacker used DDOS as diversion and installed a rootkit and started spreading viruses in to the system.

Using Terminal on your mac, you can simply launch a loop with "do curl 'website...'.." and some other basic parameters, and just hit enter and launch a mini-DoS with your own laptop and basic internet. You can even spoof the IP address and make it look like your request is coming from a different location with a simple parameter, and simulate a DDoS. Don't do this though, it's illegal.
Tommy Callaway tell people exactly how to do it and then say don't do its illegal, just in case

Hey Modern Rogue, love the channel! I showed your channel to my security professor and he used that mock website in a short lab to investigate SQL injection. With my A+, Network+, Security+, and MCSA in hand, you guys cover the IT topics quite well! One prevention technique you forgot is the new CloudFlare web services available which prevent multiple session requests in short time intervals, bringing the traffic down to a manageable level in an attack.
Well, the biggest part of it is that CF is actually a vast international network that is almost impossible to clog with so many requests it stops responding. It's not impossible, but the network is so big that nobody has ever managed to bring CF down.

Slowloris DDoS attacks are really neat, look into those. Because it's not so much about throwing a ton of info at a server until it's overwhelmed, it's more about taking up as much time as the server as, as slowly as possible.
this vid just taught us what is happening in a ddos attack, not how to attack

I and one of the the IT persons that has to answer for what's happening, for a large hosting company, and I can confirm, whenever one of our servers gets hit with a DDOS it is absolutely terrible. Even with the carefully configured filtering/scrubbing service we pay a ton to use on our network, it still happens more than even tech savvy people realize. In fact, those are usually the worst clients to try and explain it to.
The slow loris type attacks are more interesting to me because it doesn't really require any botnets and only limited computing power.
