How to Fix Circle, X, Square, or Triangle Button on a DualShock 4 PS4 Controller | Repair Stuck

- A tutorial on how to service the four main face buttons on the Sony DualShock 4 controller (DS4): Circle, X, Square, and Triangle. I go over ways to resolve issues such as stuck button, registering a push, not registering a push, and making a noise. The solutions involve a lot of things, including cleaning and replacing parts, and tearing down to get closer to the rubber conductive pads and film. I am using a model CUH-ZCT2U with a JDM-055 board for most of the video, but I point out the major differences when it comes to the inside components.

This video was extremely helpful! My "X" button wasn't bouncing back when I pressed it so I knew it must've been an internal problem, but until now I haven't had to open my controller AT ALL. The step by step was very much needed and appreciated. It turned out the piece of rubber padding behind my x button had popped out, so after using the link in your description, I've ordered a new one and I'm currently replacing it(I came back to make sure I'm disassembling the controller correctly again). Thanks bro! The square button on my controller lost sensitivity and I had to push it hard in order to work. I ended up using the Solution 5 and after dissasembling, cleaning and putting everything back together my button now works normally. Thanks for the video!

Thanks so much for this video, the straw blowing technique got my button right. I used a plastic straw and pinched the tip flat so it was wedged in the crease of the button.

Very helpful video, Thanks! Also, what I found is that if the rubber pad contacts are worn, since it's symmetric you can try rotating it until you find a orientation where all face buttons work and feels right, at least as a quick fix until you can get the replacement parts.
I had 2 broken controllers, X buttons did not work at all or other controller had to push hard. Open both of them and clean em. That did the trick for me 👍 It was pretty easy and now i have 2 working controllers again. Thank you very much!

Took some effort to get the screws moving, but it worked. (Save for the fact that the rubber pads are half-busted, all I managed was to get the X working so I could menu through shit)

I went for opening the controller with a lot of reluctance and hopelessness. Throughout the process I wasn’t sure if it will work. I had problems with 4 buttons and almost had thought of buying a new one. To my surprise, this worked. I just had to clean it thoroughly. Cannot thank you more!
Great video , very detailed. One thing tho, you advised to leave the battery connected and right afterwards you shove a (metal) butterknife underneath the battery holder! The battery was removed when you did but you didn't mention that. I'd recommend to ALWAYS remove the battery (carefully of course) to avoid short-circuiting the main board.

I have dualshock 4 with a non working r1 shoulder button and tried to clean the contacts as well as the pin connctor at 12:57, I don’t know if it the contact pins should be cleaned and just the buttons only. After I cleaned it is still not working, will replacing it with the right film work?

Ahhhh Thank you so much, because of you I was able to replace the rubber padding for R1 and X. It was worm out after playing so much dark souls and J-RPG by mashing dialogs and attacking things in dark souls XD
The only problem is that the light is now green instead of the white/blue but it isn't a problem I guess, controller still works fine.
PS: It is a Data Frog controller that I brough on Aliexpress so it is not PS4 original.

the rubber thingy behind my X button had ripped so the button was stuck, opened it up and flipped the rubber thingamabob around, now X works and I have no triangle, but X is more important to me, thumbs up on the video

Hello! Is it ok to use something else as metal or wood instead of cardboard in solution 1?
My R2 button is working without touching it and I cleaned it and also changed the pad under it but it didn't work. I'm wondering what to do.
If I change that film will that fix it?

Cleaning the part of the film at 12:30 with a little bit of alcohol fixed the problem of my buttons being unresponsive, thanks for the help!

Just in time: the reset button on one of my N64 consoles got stuck. I will try the first few solutions to fix it👍
It should help a little bit, but that button runs deep. I had to go inside mine. There's something about the plastic that attracts dirt.

Hey what if my battery is stuck on the black trey? how do I get it off I don't want to pull the battery off and ruin the circuit board
My rubber pad was broken. I attempted to super glue it in place but I don't think it's worth trying because it's eventually going to fall back out so I ordered the replacement.

@@ayoifeonl9392 I went on eBay and bought a conductive ps4 controller replacement and I fixed myself and its all fine but I ended up not rebinding my triangle
To fix my triangle button, I bought a new ribbon sheet and replaced it. It was only $3 from Amazon! The controller works perfect again!

i used a toothpick to scrape it before i saw this video, and a piece came off and is now stuck in there, it still. works but its stiff and weird to click
I did everything and now it does turn on. But when I plug the charger in, it charges but it doesn't turn on and connect

A glued-down battery may indicate the controller is counterfeit.

I hear a lot about buttons activating other buttons that are far away, but don't have a solid explanation yet. You could try cleaning both buttons using some of the methods in the video. If you or someone has taken the controller apart before, it's possible the "flim" that the buttons make contact with isn't connecting to the main board securely, so taking it apart and putting it back together MAY help.
