    It's like a twisted version of Francis Ford Coppola's Jack (1996), but they cut out the stuff about a disease that makes the kid age faster.

    I just remember being severely creeped out by Martin Short in this. Like he was a creep pretending to be a kid to prey on them (the priest part doesn't help AT ALL) and Grodin was deep down a hero trying to out him and save future kids from him.

  • @50percentGrey
    @50percentGrey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    As much fun as this film was to me when I first watched it years ago, it's made me come up with a theory:
    What if the character of Clifford himself wasn't actually 10 years old? Instead, he's a 40-year-old who just recovered from a 30 year coma after a harsh run-in with some bullies, so he still thinks he's 10 with an obsession for dinosaurs, which he perceives as figures of strength and evolutionary dominance? And his "uncle" Martin is actually his brother who tried to move on and forget about the coma? I'm sure the movie would have ended a whole lot differently, if not better, when Martin reveals the truth to Clifford.

    I think there's a way this could have worked. Instead of making Martin Short's character an actual ten-year-old boy, make him a demented adult who thinks he's a boy. Acknowledge the awkward casting by making Clifford the boss's obnoxious adult son and make the goal watching him for the weekend without going crazy yourself. That's how Charles Grodin would get his promotion or a padded cell, whichever comes first.

    I love this movie. It really shows off Charles Grodin being the pissed-off adult to Martin Short's Clifford.
    In other news, there's a sequel to a Christmas Story that isn't Christmas Story 2?!?!?

    Imagine Martin Short was instead playing his Ed Grimly character in this movie. That would put it over the top, I must say.

    Your review has reminded me of this classic SCTV skit: What Ever Happened to Baby Ed? Thank you.

    I do remember seeing this in theaters as a kid and even back then I felt uncomfortable when I watched it. Such a bizarre flick but man you respect the nihilistic hustle

    I wasn't keen for the Exxxotica Expo, but when I saw that Jamie Jett was due to appear, I immediately bought tickets!
