Ditching Canon for Fujifilm XH2S Do I regret it?

  • I sold all of my Canon EOS R gear to switch exclusively to Fujifilm. I currently have the Fujifilm XH2S, Fujifilm XE4, and several lenses. Here are my thoughts about leaving Canon for Fujifilm. Was it a mistake?

Welcome to Fuji, glad to have you onboard. Without a doubt, the X-H2s is an excelent camera, there's no denying it. I am considering purchasing it myself, as I shoot the Fuji X-S10 and do have a need for faster and more reliable AF, as well as better battery life. I may also wait a bit for the X-T5, it should be a great bang for your buck under $2k .

Great video Brady, just ordered a X100V last week and excited to dive more into Fujifilm! (I have an R6). The X100V is such a dope camera! Sounds like we are in a similar boat. All I can say, is I made money selling my canon gear and switching. So, if you do want to make the switch, it is cheaper to move to Fuji from Canon.

The final nail for me is Canon not allowing third party RF glass. I used to have an X-T3 and had some autofocus trouble. I am hoping the X-H2S solves for that. Going to rent it. I now have an R6 and just really miss that Fuji community, Fuji experience and overall the lightweight/affordable power that comes with the system. I may hang on to the R6 for product shoots or pro portraits in studio but then invest a little more into the X-T30 I kept for fun. I only have one lens for it currently and maybe it’s worth making my R6 pro only and my X-T30 art only in my mind.

I think xt3 could work great for portraits in studio, the problem is in low light or in not controlled light environment thats where r6 or a7iv could shine actually.

Thanks for sharing. I'm trying to decide between the xt5 and the xh2. Others I've considered are z6ii, r6, and a7iv; but I'm an amateur (and 70 yrs old) and don't really want to spend a lot of money or carry around a camera with large lenses. The Fugi A$PC seem superior to other ASPC systems.

bro I literally said the same exact thing..Fuji gotta be putting witchcraft in that little ass sensor 😭because I own the A7iii and the A6100. I recently just got the Fujifilm X-E4 to see what the hype about fuji was and OH BOYYY.. The ability to recover details and edit the colors to exactly what you want is like no other. I planned on upgrading from the A7iii to the IV for my main work, but honestly I think I might sell some gear and go with the X-H2s..(not selling my A7iii tho) could be used as a great backup

I had many of the same thoughts as you.
I bought an X-T2 on a whim and absolutely loved it.
So, I have the X-H2 in the mail and I feel like this will be the final piece that transitions me away from Canon.
Hmmm… I have to figure out if I’m going to keep and adapt all my Canon glass or sell them. 🤔
Now, I’m starting to be interested in the GFX line of bodies …. 😜

Hello. In your opinion would the X-H2S be a better choice over the Canon R6 Mark II for high speed photography such as auto and motorcycle racing ? My next decision for my next camera upgrade will mainly revolve around fast and accurate auto focusing. Canon cameras are well known for their incredible autofocus but the reviews on the X-H2S autofocus seem to be pretty darn impressive. I love my XT3 but its autofocus always seems to let me down when I’m at the race track. Your opinion would truly be appreciated..PEACE

I just swapped the same, R6 for XH2s. I have owned 3 Fujis in the past and loved everything but eye AF and shutter readout speeds. The R6 was to fix the AF issue and give FF as well, but i couldn't help miss the Fuji sims and other things like 3 batteries at once. My go to lens on the R6 was the 85 f/2, but i have a 56 f/1.4 for my Fuji now, so there's no loss in DOF control. Fuji fixed all the prior Fuji shortcomings with the XH2s and added stuff like super rez. Over 2 hours of 4k per battery is insane. The only way i'll upgrade from here is with another Fuji that simply has better specs, likely many years away.

I really agree about Canon is for studio work (technical) and Fuji is more for creative work (artistic). I also switched from Canon for initially between Sony FX30 or A7SIII but ended up with X-H2S after read about CineD's sensor lab test of the X-H2S where they mentions its DR & Latitude is better than C70 or even A1 and comparable to Venice 2. Gerald Undone even showed that it can gives us 14 clean DR by recording in ProRes and add NR in post. That is the biggest selling point for me. I didn't get the X-H2 because of the shadow clipping in 4k60p non HQ video mode while the H2S doesn't suffer from that problem.
For me Canon mirrorless cameras are dead because they are the least in term of DR than others, and the lens prices are atrocious (the higher ends are way too expensive and the entry level are meh) while they doesn't allow third party lenses for us to alternate from the entry level RF lenses.

How limiting is the xh2s compared to the xe4 due to its larger size and weight in terms of reaching for a camera to follow your daughter around? I want a single camera solution for both photos and video to document, my family, daily life, trips, etc. I tried a two camera solution, x100v for stills, and Sony ZV1 for video. Found limiting because didn’t always want to carry two cameras around. I’m thinking possibly Sony a 7C. But I really like the Fuji experience. Thinking of X H2S as a single camera documentary machine. But I’m just concerned about the size and weight, making me not wanna grab it and take it as often as I did, even with the x100v.

@@amermeleitor Yes. Just go look up the scores done by Gerald Undone. The XH2S outperforms the entire Canon RF line apart from cinema cameras like the C70 by about 1 stop. The R5C has WORSE dynamic range. See cammackey too for his real world examples.

Just swapped in Canon R6 for Fuji xh2. The R6 has incredible AF and face, eye traking but... the dynamic range is poor, blown out highlights all the time, my old fuji xt3 is better, even just jpegs. The batt life on xh2 is amazing and the colours are fabulous 👌. The Canon you can't link spot metering to the af point! My biggest gripe with the Canon, it protects highlights by making images under exposed, so you have to always lift the shadows by 2 stops... this creates bad noise even at low iso's. The xt3 and xh2 do get this ever. Full frame disappointed 😞 happy to be back with Fuji now.

@@KAIROSMMA known DR with the R6, less so with R6II. Was always really poor on the 6D dlsr.
