Just wanted to thank you for the tip, im 62 so it was a little bit of work but im stubborn so got it done in about 45 mins thanks again and have great day!
This video was so helpful. I had helped my nephew replace his bulb - with the same issue with the light intermittently going out. This video saved us from going crazy!
Very helpful video. Replaced the harness problem solved. Especially grateful for the tip about disconnecting the harness from the system ie pushing down the little green thing. Was frustrated til I remembered you pointing that out
Just wanted to say thank you for this. I couldn't figure out what was going on with my new LED lights and this was the issue. Great info, you have a new Subscriber now!
@@vibewb9801 nope. Somehow my ground wire from the harness was compromised (had 12V instead of 0) so i ended up just running my ground to the frame and capping the one from the wire harness. Hillbilly fix
Thank you for sharing this. I saw another video where the guy (who happened to be a certified mechanic) cut the wires behind the couplers on the main harness and soldered heavier gauge wires on that harness. My 2013 Ram had/has this problem when driving for prolonged travel, such as a several hundred mile trip. Pretty scary and very frustrating.
@@JoelsDriveway How this well-chronicled problem across (likely) millions of trucks wasn't/isn't a mandatory recall item, I'll never know. We have moose and bears up on my end of Interstate 35 (and I-75) and I don't want to blast one at night while pulling a 4,000 lb travel trailer in a poorly lit, sparsely populated region of the country.
@@danielhuculak1877 Very true! Limited visibility is a serious safety issue. I just watched the video you mentioned where he solderes the wires directly. Seems like a good fix as well. If mine fail again, i might try it out. Although I wonder if there will be issues in the long term.
You can tin the ends of cut wires but crimping is far superior to soldering. Some lights can pull more amperage than others and a solder joint will fail where a crimp joint won’t.
Hi bro thanks so much !!! this really helped me bc i like doing it myself. Just got a 1500 and lights started doing that also the rear blinker too but i guess its same issues as you can see it kinda burned out. Thanks again
My right low beam went out so I bought a new bulb. Decided to replaced both headlight lamps (new harnesses came with new lamps) while I was at it. Now both low beams don’t work with either the new harnesses or the old harnesses
Anyone know what causes the shorts and of there is solution for it? Othwrwise I heard replacing these harnesses is a regular thing. Thanks for the video.
Does this affect both pass/drivers headlights at the same time? Mine flickers both lights high/low and it don’t matter if I have lights in auto or on. Had halogen bulbs and leds now. Does it with both.
As an engineer, I’ll apologize for molar engineering. To change a friggin light bulb it should take 2 min, not 12 screws, 14 button clips, remove the grill, and the light housing lol this is ridiculous
That plastic grille is a bear if you've never had to pull it apart in past. That took the longest for me, was so careful so as not to break the grille.
I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4. I bought it with aftermarket headlights and my issue is my lights stay on. I thought it was my switch inside the cab. But after watching this video i think im going to check out the wire harness. Thanks for this info. 👍 Do you happen to know if the harness you bought works with aftermarket headlights? Please reply 🙏
@@JoelsDriveway I'm addressing the situation now . I'm going to put a shout out for your channel since this was the most reliable video I've seen but I think my wire harness is different. Making the video soon
Was wondering if youve had to do this more than once? I followed this video and replaced the harness a year ago. It's out again, so I must do this a second time! ☹️
Did you have power to the fuse still with the bad harness after the fuse box? Both of my headlights are not working. Fuses are good but not getting any power. Thinking I might have an issue with the headlight switch?
Great video! I am curious: did you get a message saying you had a burnt bulb or not? I don't have it for the left lights being out. I went ahead and ordered the new harness and will install it myself now. I sure hope it isn't a problem with the front control module, which is super pricey. Thanks for such clear cut instructions! Plus, the 'pretty face' to look at... you're a very nice looking gentleman, if I have to say so, myself. That's a definite bonus 🤩
Worked great, thanks! That was about a year ago. Looks like it happened AGAIN!!! I ordered the harness thru the link on this video. You're a lifesaver, thanks again!
Headlight would go out and come back on. New bulb would do the same thing. Check the harness connection and see if it looks burnt/shorted. This will fix your issue.
My 14 ram has projector headlights and the passenger light works sometimes and doesn’t. I checked my harness a month ago and some wires were touching bare together just outside the harness and it looked like it was trying to melt. Just curious do you think this would help mine if I change the harness also?
having this issue on the driver side, saw your video bought the part but my lights don’t look anything like yours, i have a 2012 1500 and there is no wiring of any sort inside my headlight itself? nothing for me to change out i’m lost here
Did you ever have an issue where your automatic high beams were enabled, but they wouldn’t automatically shut off when another car was approaching? Or your automatic high beams would disable when no other vehicle was on the road?
Make sure the bulb is seated properly and that none of the wires are pinched in any way. Also, sometimes the pins in the connectors tend to "back out" if pulled.
Hi there! I was wondering how you found/figured out what the part number was. I have a Ram with the Dual Halogen headlights, as opposed to your Quad Halogen headlights. These replacement wires are not compatible with my headlights, so I was trying to find the version that would be compatible, but I'm not having any luck in my search. So I just changed my head like to led brand new they were working fine but my driver side head light was flickering and went out so I put my old one on and it still didn’t work you think it’s still the wire harness only thing is that I’m running H1 light bulbs
I don't think its the harness. The electrical system is having issues with the LED bulbs. Do you have resistors installed? Look up online "anti flicker resistor/capacitor" kits for your year model. They wire into your current harness and should fix your issue.
My passenger side high and low will not work. Would it be this harness just seems weird that both will not work. I have regular bulbs too. Guess I’ll have to take it out and see if the plug harness may have went bad I hope that’s what it is. It just is strange that both high and low won’t work
