@@SeeTaller imm you can go around my dad's knows someone who did did plus I've seen actul vids before this one I've even watched someone I know go round the chain was fully wrapped up and sat on top or did you meen a chance of infinite loop possibility
Back when people had those small metal backyard childs swingsets from the 70's and 80's, an athletic youth/teen could definitely generate enough speed to swing over the bar. Slightly short chains, get enough speed to go above the bar and freefall, then one very hard pump to send you over.
Looks fun but kind of scary. I like to swing high but the idea of doing a full swing lap around is a bit much for me. This video was well-made and really cool though!
I saw a kid do that on a seated swing set when I was in preschool in the late 80's, and it was such an incredible sight that I've retained the memory. Now, I was so young (somewhere between 3-5) and it's been so damn long that the memory may not be 100% accurate. However, I remember my mother even earlier in life changing my diaper in a bedroom that had a cross on the wall, and my mother has confirmed that there was a cross on the wall in that bedroom. Keep in mind, we only lived in that house for about 2 years after my birth. Yes, I can remember a select few things from that far back for whatever reason. So anyway, back to the memory. I remember there was this bully in preschool who was a few years older. One day I'm on the playground swing set waiting for my mom to pick me up. At some point that kid comes and sits on the swing next to me. He starts swinging, and he's really pumping HARD, and eventually he wraps himself around the top! And that's not even the end of it, because he keeps going around until there is no chain left, and then he starts unwrapping and goes around in reverse until there is no chain left. I remember thinking that he was going to bust his head open on that top bar, but somehow he didn't. He was still on the swing when I left, and that's the end of the memory. I would love to see this confirmed as something that is possible, because it's obviously pretty freakin' WILD! My brain tells me that it's really far fetched, and yet I remember witnessing it and I know it wasn't a dream.
1. Did you make this? Can you share the plans or how you made it? 2. Add a counter balance on a welded pole and everyone would have more fun and be less exhausted?
Looks awesome but I’ll never do it because I’m scared that I won’t have enough momentum to clear one lap and I’ll be 180 degrees in the air and because of gravity have a concussion because of the pole that holds up the chain for the swing
You have to use the law of conservation of energy. Gravitational potential energy + Kinetic energy = A constant. At the top of the swing you have maximum gravitational potential energy and at the bottom of the swing you have maximum kinetic energy. To reach the top you have to put in enough energy to equal the potential energy at the top and combat the friction in the swing and air resistance
For biomechanics I had to learn and explain this as well. What it comes down to is bringing the center of mass of your own body down (by bending) when you descend (7:01), so you can take advantage of the force of gravity, and you get more speed because you make the rotating arm as big as possible. When you ascend (7:02 ish) you want to do the excactly the opposite so you stand up to bring your CoM up, so you the forces of gravity (pulling you down) will impact you minimally. By standing straight (so bringing your CoM up), you will get higher too because you will increase your rotational speed. You can compare this to doing a somersault or a head roll: the smaller you are, the quicker you rotate. So when you go up and you stand up, you bring your CoM higher towards the pivot point of the swing, which will basically make you rotate faster, or in other words, get higher. But when you go down, you want to make te biggest curve as possible so you maximize the forces of gravity that pulls you down and gives you speed, so you bend. You can compare that to a halfpipe, where making the angle as steep as possible won´t be as effective as making a curve like it is now. Initially you´ll maybe go faster going down, but a big curve will make the transition to going up faster and more smoothly. (By the way when you ´pump´ while skateboarding to make hight in a halfpipe, you apply excactly the same principle to make hight in a swing: you bend when going down, and in the middle; you explosively stand up. Think about what that does to your CoM) Another analogy would be putting a heavy ball on a the end of a string and releasing it at it´s highest point (the ball is your CoM). Imagine the speed in which it´s falling down (compared to putting the ball at 1/2 the lenght of the string). Now imagine the ball magically moving to 1/2 on the string under the rotating arm (in the middle) when you go up. And at the highest point moving to the end of the string and so on, and so on. My teacher calls all of this the housefly principle, because if you track your CoM when you swing like this, it will look like the wings of a fly. So bend when you go down and stretch when you go up, both ways. Lastly, explosively bending and stranding up straight when you are at the bottom (or top when you go all the way around), will increase your hight because you are adjusting your body correspondingly going up or down. Lastly lastly. Want to slow down? Do excactly the opposite movement with the bending and stretching. Try it! It´s really interesting and once you get it, it will change the way you look at swinging, maybe it takes a moment to understand what it comes down to, but once you get it you´ll won´t forget it. You can send me a message if you like and I´ll share the report we wrote on this including formulas :) PS: I´m Dutch and the report is in Dutch too but you can translate it easily.
I remember seeing that I never did as a kid but I used to jump out the top I'm crazy but I wasn't quite that crazy Lmmfao Just like I'll dive off the high diving board but I won't do a somersault off of it that water hurt enough just driving off of it straight into the water I couldn't imagine the pain doing a somersault & the force of the water behind the impact Smmfh I only did airborne when I was in the military that's safer Lol

I don't know if I can do that! I might try it on the round swing seat I got from treeswingstore.com/wooddiscswing/ Kidding! My swing is more on the relaxation side!
We all dreamed of going to the other side
Yeah
And fall
Lol is that a Recess (the show) reference??
@@RobinGoodfell I know that show and idk because I didn’t know the show at the time. But it will be crazy if it was lol
Yes
We use to do that in the 70's without safety gear. I managed about 5 times until I got sick lol.
That sounds amazing!
I wish I couldve done that

It's called Kiiking, an Estonian swing for adults and the same in Finland called "kyläkeinu"

omg seeing this people now living my childhood dream
Ok that was AMAZING
The scenery is beautiful.
Where is this?
this was my nightmare. I also loved swinging high but flipping over?? I don’t think so
What a view!! Where is this at?
I got chills seeing the tumbnail
Who else was rocking and croutching in their seat, trying to get all the way around, WHILE WATCHING THIS? ......i sure was 😌

I can just feel the blood rush oh gosh my head hurts 😂
Why is it so freaking hard to find the math equation for the physics involved in this?
Oh I'm teaching myself physics by the way LOL

do you in any way have some calculation and stuff for my school project on why its posible
Great question. We haven't done any calculations on it, but that would be super interesting to find out. I hope your report goes well.

I did it a couple times but the first time you do it it feels so weird
Yeah. Try it with chains and you will have an accident and I don't think it's possible. I would have a go with soild bars.
