Finally someone speak the truth on this platform. GREAT platform
It really is!
A lot of people get scared of VW/Audi maintenance because, especially at the dealer, it can be really expensive. I consider myself a relatively cheap person but when it comes to car maintenance, I get anxiety if I even go a couple hundred miles over my oil change interval and I found a lot of ways to make maintaining these cars much less expensive. First, learn have to do basic maintenance. It's crazy how much dealers are charging for oil changes and filters and such. These are super easy do to on the EA888 and will save you a ton. Second, you can buy OEM parts from companies like ECS and FCP euro that are not branded VW/Audi and will save you a ton of money. A DV for my old Mk6 would have been $150 from VW and I bought the pierburg one (they make it for VW) for $60. If you take a little time to learn these things, you can save money while keep your car healthy with good quality parts.
Gotta agree there. I have a Q3 sportback and since 2 weeks also an S3 8y. I got an oil change done on the Q3 about 5 weeks ago, and for just the oil alone they charged about 200 dollars. I'm getting my first oil change on the S3 next week and i asked them if i can buy the oil myself and let them just do the change.
I got the official VW oil they use for 50 dollars instead of the 200 they charge. Sorry but that's just absurd.
2016 audi s3 owner here , i daily my car since last year of february, and i can agree .. keep up with the maintenance and drive slow on long distances, its really fun but really problematic when driving long and hard , i’ve spent 8 grand plus in my s3 driving about 300 miles every week … i did get the audi when it was in abusive shape but so far everything i’ve put on hasn’t broke , here’s a small list of what i’ve done.
Full suspension
gasket cover
timing chain cover x2
lower control arm
passenger side wheel bearing
coolant reservoir
atleast 6 tires already (california roads)
On top of that i have 2 bullshit tickets for tint, loud exhaust, and no front plate … happy to say this car has given me the worst headache and spent the most money but it’s fun to drive
I’m FBO 2020 gli 6MT, vortex xl, MPI, lpfp, etc. and I can honestly say these cars are durable. My car has been tuned by EQT in some shape or form since 8k miles. I’m now at 73k, I’ve had the FBO setup minus an intake manifold since 42k miles. The car has been a blast, I take it to the track, drive it 100+ miles a day round trip to work and it keeps going. I’ll probably do injectors out of precaution soon and recently had the front o2 sensor go bad, but besides that, with regular maintenance, it’s been perfectly fine for 30k miles on an xl. Matt at EQT is a wizard peak boost set at 32.5 on 93 and 34.6 on e85
Absolutely great to hear! Matt is a great tuner and it’s absolutely necessary to have good tuning to make these cars last. Same here on 93 I’m around 32-33 psi and e85 around 34-35 and haven’t had a single issue. Glad you’re rocking still man
Brotherrrrr if TH-cam would have been a proper company you would be in the board of directors in the automotive scene. I just came across your channel (as a RS3 8v3 owner ). The first video I ever see with transparent and straight to the point clothed in a mostly objective view. And all that WITH almost APA level referencing towards parts ?? Respect bro
35 psi is pretty crazy. Props to you for keeping everything dialed in properly. My buddy’s S3 blew up at 50k miles. Stock turbo and OTS map. Pretty wild..
Wouldn’t put an OTS tune on it
Who was your friend tuned by? Theres a lot of variables that come with the modifying and tuning process
Depends on the tuner, many out there have very stout ots tunes
What tune?
Eyyy lets go!!! I'm still saving up for the vortex XL. Awesome to see this still going strong! keep at it!
It will be a blast for sure once you do it!
I can vouch for you on this 15 S3 135k EQT Stg3 and the car has not given me any issues
Great to hear man! Also at the point of something happens it happens 🥲
Good info bro I've been tuned for about a year now and still trouble shooting why I'm getting a hesitant misfire sometimes when i nail it i think i need to change the tune ...my only other issue is the top cover gasket leaks oil down to one of the spark plugs, oh and I'm always look for an opportunity to get on it too !!
So for your misfires have you done the basic of spark plug and coil check? Yes if you cam cover is leaking into your plugs it can absolutely cause issues and misfires and you may have to get it resealed. Now another thing to check is your coil grounds because they are known to cause problems too. It’s very recommended to ditch the grounds and get a coil grounding kit
Yea new rs7 spark plugs thought it might be the oil leak , I will check coils ,I just changed the vacuum line to the cts intake because it was a little short and seems ok so far but yea I'll try those ones you mentioned thanks for the reply dude
What’s your full exhaust setup again? Sounds very good
It’s a cts downpipe to mbrp catback but not for long as part of my new exhaust setup showed up 🤭
Just got the vortex xl...but fueling is capped. So now ordering mpi and lpfp. 2020 a3
Keep an eye on your PCV system. It can cause leaks and oil consumption. Catch cans are good as well.
they will consume oil no matter what, bought mine with 87k and once it got above 100k it started consuming a quart of oil between oil changes
@@coreytheMFstory Do not overfill your oil ( half way up the cross hatches on the dip stick, 4.3 guarts) Mann filters.
Use Pentosin or Amsoil.
Replace your PCV valve...better yet, catch can.
I have owned several 2.0 tsi units. Their is are cure for all ailments. They do not HAVE TO consume oil at all.
@almaadams3631 have a full catch can pcv system on a dew weeks after I purchased it, and I'm not putting 4.3 quarts in when it calls for 6. And it doesn't matter what oil cartridge that won't make it not consume oil.
@@coreytheMFstory Must be MQB chassis. My 2.0s are/were 2008 and 2013.
You said you bought the car with 86K? ( when you said filter cartridge, I knew we were on different pages) You don't know how the car was cared for. The reason oil and filter are important is reducing carbon and sludge build up on ring lands and oil scavenging rings.
Our piston rings are designed to allow compression "blow by"
but oil coming the other way should not be happening.
Not for nothing, but I have owned, driven, wrenched VW/Audi since 1990.
@almaadams3631 you seem so sure of yourself that I don't have any idea of how the car was taken care of, I have the carfax and service records from the dealer since new and I'm the second owner I don't need a lesson in oil changes I change it very 5k miles and have been working on cars since I was a kid
Awesome video man
Thanks!
Question, when i try to do a pull the engine management cuts the power and i dont know why?
Great Build!
Thank you so much!
got oil burning in my GTI. But the water pump leaked since I owned it I think. It would go from high to low on the coolant every 5k. Just got the water pump done at 73k. hope that stops. I do need a new DSG and don't know why the 5th gear started whining.
just wait until it starts and the waterpump shits the bed, replacement cost me 2k and after it got over 100k started consuming oil with not a drop leaking anywhere and not smoking
Hey Diego, cool vid! I just got a stock 2024 s3 and recommend oil change is 10k miles, would you recommend getting them done earlier if it’s driven moderately hard even stock?
Yea do them every 5k
Awesome video
Thank you!
Hey Diego - Long time subscriber. Hey Just wondering if you might be considering any other mods or going built motor / bigger turbo etc ? (I have a very similar build as you, save for a few differences) 2017 Audi S3. Anyway - great job with your build and sharing your experiences and opinions.
DSG are longterm weak point I have learned this from all my friends that same platform it took me to experience it
Nice vid! I have a 2017 s3 tuned by eqt and I’m having issues with launches. I’m trying to go vortex mpi, but I’m spinning 245/40 19” tires with stock turbo. It’s to the point where my dsg short shifts 2nd super early. I have done all of my servicing, and I never spin unless it’s a launch. I was wondering if you have experienced this issue as well. I haven’t had a single launch run through 1st gear in 3 1/2 months on e85 or 93
For context the car is only running 11.5 in the 1/4 and a 3.5 0-60. These times were gotten through dragy while the issue is occurring
check your rear axles. i had a similar issue. turned out one of my rear axles/cv joint shit the bed. replaced the axle and it solved the problem
What’s the 0-60 on this?
i got an audi 2016 s3. The car came with an ecs tuning exhaust and a cts downpipe. Am i at stage 2 or 1 and should i flash a stage 2 tune on it or stage 1?
Dude like your videos and all, but for the love of god get that steering wheel cleaned, and clean the shift knob while u r at it, i can feel and smell the grease from brazil
Hey what tire and rim size do you run
Rn I’m 18x9 et43 all around and tires are 245/40/18
How's the MINI?
She was sold a while ago haha maybe I’ll have another one day
@DArias oh ok. I haven't kept up in a while I must've missed the video
You don't mention how many miles you have on the clock?
Have you not have any problems with the water pump?!
Truly have no clue! Lol literally car hasn’t dripped anything at all since I’ve owned it even at this power level
Lucky I will keep an eye on the thermostat. The Housing becomes brittle over time and it will leak coolant,
its coming along with a big bill
Caught this one early
🫡😬
Is it true DSG service isn’t needed?
If you're tuned dsg and haldex are a must. I do both at same time and save around 300 dollars that way.
owners manual says every 40k miles, about to get mine changed soon. wouldn't keep running that fluid especially what it would cost to replace or repair transmission for not changing out fluid.
Keep telling Subaru owners this. You can build a reliable, powerful Subi....for about 20 grand.
I have a 16 S3, often when I go to start the car it will just crank. After trying to start it a couple times plus pressing the gas pedal it will finally start. I bought a fuel pump for it, I hope that is what’s wrong with it. My OBD has codes for fuel too rich at idle and misfires in multiple cylinders. Already changed sparks and coils
It’s probably the o2 sensor that’s what happened to my s3 I would have to crank it and push the gas
@@faxszn1719 hmm and after you fixed it, that issue went away? I mean I already bought the fuel pump I might as well replace it lol how much is an O2 sensor?
@@80s_crackfrom vw probably $350-400, you can get a ngk(ngk) one off rock auto for $175
@@80s_crack i acutally havent fixed it lol bc my car usually always turns on that's why I haven't changed it but audi told me it was the 02 sensor and if I were you I would get the original o2 sensor bc I bought a bosh o2 bc it was cheaper but it didn't fix it still has the same problem
@@80s_crack and i know its that bc I recently had to get a completely new engine and my obd says its the 02 sensor
