    So, a lot of you are commenting about wanting to see more footage of the fish and tank, and less of me. Well, I have listened. If you check back to watch my release next Wednesday, you will see all the footage on this setup (fish, tank, etc), as well as a little change and some bonus footage at the end.

      I subbed to see this! Of course, I still wanna hear what you have to say. I hope suggestions like this don't silence you because you've got good information, and these aren't common animals to see as pets with such nice quality footage.

    I had a brackish tank back in the 90's where I kept a HUGE Green Spotted Puffer. He was loaded with personality and was my favorite fish I ever had. Dont let the cuteness of the puffer fool you, they are as hostile as they are adorable. They are more aggressive than most cichlids . Its so good to see Puffers getting love shown in the hobby. Thank you for listening to your subscribers.

    • @Glock23Fire
      @Glock23Fire 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In my experience most figure 8s are not as aggressive as GSP. I guess the potential is always there though. Puffers are the best this is really making me rethink starting my 40b reef or get back into F8 puffers ;-)

    I had a dragon gobie in with my mudskipers and they did very well together. It's a filter feeder so it sifts the sand to find food. I also had gost shrimp that would reproduce in this setup, as well as a few bumble bee gobies. Quite the oddball group.

  • @Glock23Fire
    @Glock23Fire 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm glad you went with the F8 Puffer so you can help share the requirements of keeping them properly. They are a very rewarding fish to keep and very docile as far as puffers go. I have kept them with guppies and bumblebee gobies with zero agression.

    Not to tell you how to do your job, but is there a way to talk while we watch the animals? You don't gotta be Ants Canada and make it all a story or anything, it's just nice to see the animals more. I love these guys. I like the puffer too. Puffers are cute; they have that passive aggressive smiley face to go along with that passive aggressive defense of theirs. Anyway, I'm a fan of more screen time for the critters. Other than that, very informative! Good video!

    I've always wanted mudskippers. I set up my brackish tank for them, but never did get them. I've had my F8 for about 5 years now though. My Puffer likes freeze dried krill. I've kept BB gobies with my F8 for years without issue. My puffer "Butterbean" is pretty timid though. And the gobies will never get big enough. Not only will an aggresive puffer kill much larger fish, but the gobies never get bigger than about a half an inch or so (and that's big one). The crabs are more likely to get eaten by the puffer. Endlers look great with the F8 puffers too.
    I love the set up. Can't wait to see how it develops.

    I love that you're doing a brackish tank. Before I found your channel, I fell in love with brackish. I ordered mudskippers, figure 8s, knight gobies, fiddler crabs and bumblebee gobies online around New years. The bumblebees and crabs never came and the skippers, puffer, and knights took forever to arrive, so all are still in separate quarantine tanks right now. I'm putting the puffer in with black mollies, and the knight gobies and guppies in with the mudskippers when everyone is out of quarantine. I'm still hoping to find bumblebees and fiddlers to reorder soon. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to seeing how your tank turns out.

  • @Daniel-fx1yz
    @Daniel-fx1yz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You should add Bala Sharks, the medium ones grow to a good size (won't be attacked by the Puffer or the Mud skippers) and they are also mediumly aggressive (not more aggressive than the mudskippers or puffer), so they will do well in an 'aggressive aquarium'.

    • @TazawaTanks
      @TazawaTanks  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never kept fiddler crabs. However, I would guess the males to be more dangerous, as they have a much larger claw, where the females only have small claws.

  • @roderickdelao4405
    @roderickdelao4405 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could try fidler crabs since they will probably make their burrows by mudskipper but you did say in past video it's not a full mound of sand. I would give it a try. Walmart sells them.

  • @nosir5596
    @nosir5596 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe add a bit more rockwork or other forms of decor in the main reservoir of the tank. Puffers like to explore an interesting environment and can get bored and be prone to swimming up and down the glass nonstop if they're not sufficiently stimulated. Otherwise it looks great, love the mudskippers, love the figure-8 (the one I had years ago was my favorite fish of all time, tbh). With a bit more decor to break line of sight and hide in the bumblebee gobies would do well, but otherwise the puffer will be plenty happy left to himself and his invertebrate snacks.

  • @Drew18000
    @Drew18000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    A cool fish that would look good and not many people get, are the dragon fish from Walmart. I know Walmart fish suck or could have parasites but if you quarantine them, it'll be fine. They're amazing fish and can live in brackish water. They are also called the Violet Goby

    I had very small bumblebee gobies with my fig 8. He did not bother them.
    So I don’t see many people keeping them but if you want something unique add a “flounder”. The ones in the aquarium trade are I believe a type of sole and at one time I had the scientific name down. Only thing is you will need a little more sand on the bottom so they can burrow. I have 2 in my 40B and they are awesome. Psuedomogils are also an option here. I have a white false cheek goby as well, very cool but he defiantly has his territory. He jus burrowed out a hole under my fake mangroves and the sand and hangs out there most of the time. I’ll send you a message with my
    Flounder

  • @Shaden0040
    @Shaden0040 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes Figure 8s are great! feed them a variety of food along with snails as a treat a 2-3 times a week. These puffers are very interactive with their environments so they can get bored quickly. Bumblebee gobies will do well with the puffer. These puffers do not hunt fish only invertebrates. The will tolerate speedy fish like Endlers, Guppies, Swordtails, Platys, Mollies, but can get overwhelmed by their flighty movements. They will not eat any fry from them either though the mudskippers might. You can also try adding in ghost shrimps which might be live food for the puffer, but puffers have been known to tolerate them in their tanks. Check out Dan Hiteshew's puffer named Butterbean on his YT channel.

    The puffer might try and eat the crab and crabs pinch hard. Puffers can receive eye damage from crabs, so be careful if you add them. You could try adding some oysters or brackish water clams. Acherfish can also have brackish water species along with Anableps Anableps a live bearer that can get 5-6 inches long and are also known as the 4 -eyed fish, as each eyeball has two separate lenses and retinas. One to look above the water and one to look below the water. Mono fish can also be used. There are different types of brackish water gobies that are larger than the bumblebee gobies. The common goby (Pomatoschistus microps) is a species of ray-finned fish native to fresh and brackish waters along the Atlantic and Baltic Sea coasts of Europe and northern Africa, with a range stretching from Norway to Morocco and Mauritania. It is also found in the Canary Islands. Hopefully to big for a mudskipper to eat. It grows to 9 cm or 3.5 inches.

    If you obtain more water rotation somehow, Plant suggestion; Fucus vesiculosus .
    Not the most colourful or green. But it is certainly unique! It will also lower the chances of Algae spread. But, it does require more than a simple bubbler för water rotation. A gyre of some sort might be better in that scenario.
    Snail; Theodoxus fluviatilis
    Meanwhile the puffer MIGHT go after them like food. They should be able to be placed in the shallow non-puffer water region. Since the mudskippers don't eat snails, right? So, they might be able to proliferate and form an idle source of food. Not to mention, they can breed and handle colder water.
    Macro Algae; Ceramium tenuicorne
    If you can obtain a northern sample of the Baltic Sea, they can handle pretty much almost Fresh Water conditions. Should be fairly unique in the sense, it is rare to see macroalgae in Fresh Water set-ups that look similar to Ocean plants. But it also depends on better water rotation.
    If you go for any of the Plant or macroalgae, Gammarus sp.
    It is a very small shrimp variation. Not very attractive but it should handle small algae and potentially work as a small snack for the Puffer.
    Snail; Potamopyrgus antipodarum
    Only 3mm big. Survives in brackish water.
    Basically, I am looking at various creatures that live in northern Baltic sea. Using a swedish website; www.havet.nu/livet/arter .
    If you use a Website Google Translate add-on or similar, you can easily read a bit shallow about everything. The important part is when clicking on something that you check the map for the blue line. This indicate where it lives. The further up the Northern border of Sweden, the better it can handle Freshwater. The most northern species are essentially Freshwater organisms.
    Shouldn't be too difficult to obtain these. Since they aren't protected by any particular Law. Molluscs and Snails along with Algae tend to only be protected if threatened. And sending a package to San Fransisco(?) from Sweden... These should survive the trip!

    I have a question, all footage of Mudskippers that I saw thus far shows them on dry land walking around. Do they actually swim because they are still...you know...FISH?

      They spend some time in the water, but they don’t really swim around like fish. They will sit in shallow pools or lay at the bottom of the tank.

    I want (more) Bumblebee Goby! For some reason they seem to be extremely rare in Cananda because I can't find them.

    Unique brackish fish is a freshwater flounder. I have always wanted to keep them, but have never done brackish.

      Brent Young go get yourself a 40Breeder and fill it with pool
      Filter sand and do it! I’ve been keeping them for about 2 years and they are awesome!

    Archer fish. But you would need to put some branches over the water so crickets can climb.

    -cries- I really want a pea puffer or two or so for my nano tank, but I also want more of a community tank... So that wouldn't be an option for me. But they're cool fish!
    So, in the beginning of the video, I thought the mudskipper was swimming around in the water and I was like, "oo, they do swim around!" but as I kept watching as you yakked in the front, I realized it was the puffer. I'm pretty sure. It looked small.
    Anyway, I do like hearing all about the process of getting the fish, decisions, etc. as a fish keeper /aquarist/hobbyist/whatever. I can always find a nature video if I wanted to watch fish swim around for 10 minutes straight. Having a separate video may or may not be more work for you, but it'll appease both crowds I guess.
