Hello! If you are new here we are Caroline and Pete, and in 2021, after 10 years living in Texas, we sold up and moved back home to the UK to live full time aboard a 60ft narrowboat, One Day More, with our West Highland Terriers! Join us in our day to day life as we continuously cruise the canals and rivers of the UK. All of the ups, and the downs and everything in between!

Seeing hamish age is hard but the joy of poppy is rewarding. We have 2, 14 year old chihuahua brothers. One with glaucoma and diabetes, the other with 3 legs. Love them both so much.
Like you we treat them well and give them love but know our time with them is short.

He really has slowed down now, and we are sure he's a little blind and a little deaf, but knows immediately when there's a treat around, or the corner of Pete's toast! Old dogs really are wonderful, but you can't help that feeling of counting the days and cherishing all of the extra time, as you know so well with your two boys. Poppy really does keep Hamish young, and he still moves quickly to steal one of her favourite touts and takes it to his bed to sit on it, like a proper annoying brother 😂
You cannot disagree about the sheer beauty of what you are travelling through. It is quintessential England at its superb best. Your filming and pace has been part of the delight for us looking on!
Quintessential England is the perfect description for this area! We really have a new appreciation for the beauty of our countryside and gorgeous little towns and villages along the way, since returning to the UK. We are so glad you're enjoying joining us for the ride 😊

You’re going to just love your E bike. I’ve had an E bike now for five years and I go absolutely everywhere. I named mine Rosie from AC/DC’s a whole Lotta Rosie because she’s a big boned gal and she likes to have fun.🚴♀️

That new bike looks amazing and I can see how it’ll make going back for the car much easier. Can’t believe it was that long ago when we were at Aqueduct Marina in those electric boats. They sure were fun and it was a fabulous day.

Thank you for this trip. Now that the treadmill blew up, I need a bribe to get on the stationary bike. This was it. Is that EBike heavy? We are looking at them for the RV is we get one, but at our age, 70 lbs is a lot to lift!! Hugs to the real stars of the show, Pops and Hamish!
You're so welcome Karen! Back in Texas, when we were researching this new life, watching narrowboat vlogs were what kept me going on the treadmill too! Yes, the bike is quite heavy, that's the only downside really, as it's so perfect in every other way for our needs. 😊

It really has made life so much easier Leigh, and we wish we had made it happen sooner! We have been rethinking our route down south towards the Crick Boat Show, and will likely now head down the Trent & Mersey instead of the Shropshire Union, so that we can take in the Caldon Canal. We were in a rush to get to Crick 2 years ago when we did the journey with Paul and Anthony, and didn't have time to turn down the Caldon when we were in the are before. You should see Poppy when she watches one of the videos of little Sebastian, I need to record it as it's so sweet, she is totally transfixed, and we can't wait for her to meet him in real life. Her new little bestie for sure 😊

The BIKE 😮. Watched twice now to see where you store it in the boat. I realise it’s not something you would want to advertise! Tempted by one Josh tried out but didn’t do it. Similar price and spec. Good reviews too. We have a BIG cupboard so it might go in there but the Man owner has eye on space that the Lady owner has already earmarked. Bike would have to be man handled into the middle of the boat from the front or back!! Or it could come through the hatch. Car move number two about to be done. Kings Bromley to Longport then two trains back plus a bus to take the boat.

You're right, the water was fierce at Debdale Lock which was was why I was only cranking it open a little at a time, and watching how it affected the boat before I opened it up a little more. It is such a beautiful stretch of canal, and definitely lived up to all the promises of how gorgeous it was from friends 😊

Pete’s new bike is definitely a game changer as it takes away the hard work . I changed my bike to electric just recently and would highly recommend anyone who is thinking about getting one. Lovely video. The area around Kinver is very lovely. We used to go there a lot, climbed up to the top of Kinver Edge a few times (doubt the knees would like that now!) and visited the rock houses.

What a perfect way to spend your banishment Helen! This is how this whole narrowboat journey started off for us, when I had covid, quarantining in the bedroom, and Pete was banished to the living room and started binge watching narrowboat videos, and then that life changing statement 'I have an idea....' and the rest is history 😂

Wolverley and Kinver is where we met you. It was our first time on a narrow boat, though about 40 years ago I had been on the Ancholme and from Torksey to Lincoln on a friend's family cruiser. Other than that my sailing has always been at sea apart from some dinghy racing on lakes.
We did the same trip as you probably only an hour or two ahead of you in this vlog. It is interesting to note you had difficulty at the sharp turn. We were in a 69 ft boat with no bow thruster. I thought it was me being rusty on boats as I had trouble there too. We passed the same fisherman by the bridge. We went by on tick over and I politely asked him if he was having any luck only to get a rude mouthful back about how there shouldn't be any boats allowed as they spoiled the fishing (expletives omitted). I resisted the urge to reply that if it wasn't for the boats there would not have been a canal in the first place and it certainly wouldn't be there as a fishable patch of water now.
It was good meeting you at both Wolverley and Kinver. You are the only canal vloggers we have met in person. It is a pity you were busy as we wanted to buy you a meal in the pub in Kinver as a thanks for the vlogs.

Hello, good to hear from you both! I'm just editing the next video, and you'll hear us saying goodbye to you as we pass! I'm sorry our time in Kinver was all so rushed so we didn't have time to have dinner. I remember that was the day we had to stop for Pete to have some work meetings, and then we were off the next morning to get onto the Shroppie. What a miserable fisherman he was, and you're right, the canals would not be there if it weren't for the boats! Thankfully he is not the norm from our experience 😊

After 12 years living in Colorado I am about ready to bring my American wife back home and buying a narrowboat is our favorite option at the moment. Living at 6000 feet is tough I need some oxygen lol ❤
We can highly recommend it John! That’s exactly what we decided after 17 years living overseas (11 in Texas) and 3 years into it, it’s the best decision we made 😊

I remember visiting my dear late Father’s friend in Kinver as a child , (I’m 69 now) . Looks like it’s still as beautiful ! My grandparents had a house in Brood & can also remember seeing a beautiful white swan on the canal there with an arrow sticking out of its neck ! We called the RSPB as we couldn’t get to it . Had nightmares for years about it ! How can people do that !

I leave Wisconsin this weekend, and you're right it's been so weird, way, sat below freezing last week, and yesterday I sat on the balcony crocheting in the sun with no coat on! We are the same, not having seen it on other vlogs. It seems to be a little travelled stretch compared to the northern section of the Staffs and Worcester that connects at Great Haywood. The new bike with its monster tyres is an absolute game changer for sure, SO much of an improvement over the very towpath unfriendly first little bike we had! We are heading to Mercia late March/early April so let's stay in touch and get together for dinner while we are in the area! 😊
Beautiful scenery. Love the birthday bike. A neighbor has one he’s 80 and gets out in the summer and rides around on our dirt roads. Can’t say my horses appreciate it when we meet, but the bike is very cool. Enjoy!

The weather certainly made a difference too that day as it was such perfect cruising wetter with the sun shining. Glad it mad you laugh, it made me laugh editing it 😂 It's such a huge upgrade from our old bike, which was not at all suited for the towpath, and it's made it SO much easier to hop on and go back to get the car. Yes, you're right, we moored at the point with Dunsley on the right of the canal and Kinver on the left, just before Bridge 29 and Kinver Lock. I love that you follow along with the maps 😊

Gosh, that really was very beautiful - the Staffs & Worcs has just replaced the Shroppie as my favourite canal. Congratulations on your new bike - when Pete was unboxing it, I was as excited as he was, what a lovely thing! An excellent choice! Those fat tyres are just the thing for muddy towpaths, and the rest of the componentry looks pretty high end as well. What have you done with the old bike - I'm assuming there isn't room on the boat for two.
I think we feel the same! We were so impressed by the stunning Staffs & Worcester, and were lucky to have some beautiful weather to enjoy it. You'll see in a few episodes time that the Shroppie fell quite a few places in our favourite canals ranking, thanks to awful weather. I'm sure it will redeem itself again though. The bike has been a true game changer, like the title says, and the research to find the perfect bike for our narrowboat life paid off. The old bike is sitting in my mum's garage until we get round to listing it for sale. It's still a great folding bike for town and city life, but not at all suitable for towpath use, as we quickly learned! 😊
Those boats (I'm not sure what they are called) look like so much fun. You are right. Everything looks better in the sun. I don't do well when it's dreary for very long. Our weather looks wonderful looking forward but there is also talk on TH-cam of another bad winter storm in the same time period. I have no clue what will actually happen. I guess whatever happens will happen and I'll adjust accordingly. 😊 The last snow finally melted and I don't want more. ❤
You're right Dorothy, this 'little eclectic boats' ( I'm not sure of their name either!) were such fun, and it was a great chance to catch up with lots of boaty friends too! Everything really does look better in the sun, and we are sure this is what helped secure the southern section of the Staffs & Worcester Canal as another favourite. I remember the crazy Indiana weather when you could be sat outside somedays, and then snow and freezing the next! 😊

You're so welcome John, it's always lovely to hear that you enjoyed it. Pete films a little footage on his phone from his viewpoint sometimes for the vlogs, and you'll see these clips incorporated into the video, especially being inside the lock 😊
It is hard to find a more beautiful section of canal anywhere. We moored near Cookley tunnel and enjoyed walking through to see the wheel factory on the other side.
Isn't it just stunning! We were not disappointed at all, and the weather made it even better 😊
My wife and I was walking around the lake today and Four electric fat tire bikes passed us. I laughed and told my wife that those tires are loud. They sound like a car is passing you by. I hope Pete likes the bike.
They are loud, you’re right! You’ll hear me calling ‘don’t be crazy’ every time Pete leaves on the bike! We are very mindful of being considerate cyclists on the towpaths though, as we have been on the other side pulling dogs out of the way of speeding cyclists, and Hamish in particular doesn’t move very fast at all! 😂
@ Oh! NO!! I didn’t think about riding pass a boat on a tow path. I guess you’ll have to slow down like you do with your boat. Ha!

I see so many nice places to moor on the off side in this video, there is armco, Don't the trusts that oversee the canals put that armco in at public expense....trust treasury? I assume the property owners own right up to the edge of the canal. Can they not invite boaters to moor? Are they wealthy snobs or something? If I had a place next to the canal I would want to meet all the boaters likely from all over the world, and I would want them to walk my gardens and chat.
Some canal side owners do rent out moorings to boaters, but it’s still Canal & River Trust water so there is normally a fee parable to them too. Not sure of the exact workings of it but if owners don’t use the moorings for their own boats then you do often see them rented out. There are also quite a few Canal & River Trust designated long terms moorings on the offside too. Thanks for watching 😊

Sometimes you have 3 dogs in the pictures. What happened?
The third dog you see in our outro was our oldest westie Jasper, who we had to say a sad goodbye too in November 2022, aged 15. I can't imagine changing the outro as it makes me smile every time to see him sat up on the back deck in his favourite spot, watching the world go by and enjoying his last couple of years as a boat dog 😊

In this cold, damp and miserable weather it's lovely to see some of the lovely weather we had isn't it Eric! It was a perfect cruising day! And yes, the new bike is absolutely the right choice this time for the muddy, rugged towpath, we learnt the hard way with that first bike! 😊
