This game cover is the most honest cover of any NES game. He does most of his magic through potions, his quest is to assemble that staff to beat the game, and his muscles generate this music.
This is absolutely solid and a fitting interpretation of the original mix. Tim Follin's genius is that not only was he able to sculpt so many diverse sounds under the humungous restraints of the hardware he worked with, but he's also actually a great composer and melody maker.
Yknow. I almost ALWAYS HATE old music remixes. They always LOSE something when you try to modernize them, because they were composed around those charming 8 bit sounds. BUT HOLY GOD DAMN, THIS HIT ALL OF THE NAILS ON THE HEAD, BUILT THE HOUSE, BOUGHT IT AND DEMOLISHED IT.
Something Hank Well, Tim Follin was actually heavily inspired by progressive rock when he composed a lot of his music, so a rock remix makes perfect sense.

Was expecting tasteless sweeps trying to imitate the original but was pleased to not hear that. Sometimes stuff like that takes away from the actual composition. This sounds pretty damn good.
Great respect for the original. I will Tel my friend Tim to check this our and ask to comment here... I know he loved rock to begin with. (phone's ringing).
You know, Tim Follin has stated in interviews that he quit composing partly because he felt limited by publishers not providing him real instruments to work with. If they ever gave him enough cash, I'm sure even he'd struggle to make something as awesome as this.
Imagine sell official arrange versions on CD just like arcade all stars... Sadly Tim Follin didnt worked on namco or Konami. Otherwise he and other Legends would made CD oriented self covers to sell.
Tony is great, but for some reason this version is much better quality than what he has his TH-cam channel. This arrangement is pure black magic an it blows my balls off every time i hear it.
This is amazing. I was hoping to find a cover of this song by a real band, but this is the next best thing. I like how this is a tad slower than the NTSC version, but not as slow as the song is in the PAL version of the game.
You know how you have those 'favorite life changing bands' and you could use JUST those bands as your life's soundtrack??? Yeah, well your metal cover of Solstice is may be not one of those bands, but one of those songs. Your song went through a few weird years of mine. Thanks!
+Scott Annonson this would be ace to learn on guitar but yeah I think this one is out of our skill range lol! There's a guy here on youtube that did a guitar cover of this and he said it's the hardest song he's ever had to learn
That's not Canon, it's not even close in-terms of melodic or rhythmic motifs. This song has a constant 3/4 or 6/8 feel whilst Canon is entirely in 4/4. Also the harmonic progression is nothing like Canon's.
That's it, I'm playing this boring old game that I swore I'd never touch again 😂 just because of this bro you about to really make me enjoy this game 😂😂😂😂 also this would fit well in smash bros 😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like this just reveals that Tim was basically making prog rock songs for his games.
He's said as much. In fact, I'm sure despite not being exactly his desired arrangement and mixing, he'd be pretty happy with this.
Imagine watching a new smash direct, they plan to announce a newcomer, and then, this song starts blasting seconds before the reveal.
MUSCLE WIZARD FOR SMASH
feel like i'd be vaporized on the spot
Or maybe a trailer for a remake?
You kidding me? I'd shit YOUR pants!
TIM FOLLIN FOR SMASH
We need more MUSCLE WIZARDS in video games.
Ancient Apparition That's just an artist's rendition of Tim Follin
2018 : we got more loli wizards like in goblin slayer anime
@@adorenu1338 We really do live in the darkest timeline
Major Armstrong comes to mind.
No, that's Tim follin.

Keep in mind, he worked with his brothers. He didn't operate alone.
@@Tinkatube oh for sure he worked with Geoff a good bit…but he’s also a beast solo as well.

When you have a +23 modifier in spellcrafting 5Head
Even the boxart of the game is metal as fuck.
Can't get any more metal than a buff ass wizard who looks like He-man

Old 8bit music always seems to have great potential for metal remixes. This is just pure awesome!
depends on who composed it
Sounds like YES and Iron Maiden had a baby.
Yes, Maiden and Theater!
I run into this masterpiece... 11 YEARS LATER?!
Was expecting tasteless sweeps trying to imitate the original but was pleased to not hear that. Sometimes stuff like that takes away from the actual composition. This sounds pretty damn good.
Composer Tim Follin, featured on the game's cover.
Great respect for the original. I will Tel my friend Tim to check this our and ask to comment here... I know he loved rock to begin with. (phone's ringing).
Tim Follin perhaps?
Hmm I feel déjà vu...
Nvm I was just getting Predator flashbacks
This HAS to be what Tim was thinking of when he was composing the original NES version. It's sure as hell what I imagined when listening to it.
now this, ladies and gents, is a classic game that is greatly under rated and needs a remake...with this number as the opening credit song...
My kitten listened to this and now she's a lioness.
Now go play some Ghostlion!
Is she single?
My god, this is so fucking awesome
OUTSTANDING!!!!!! One of the best covers ever made of one of the greatest songs ever composed.
Juxtaposition of harpsichord and metal makes me feel good feelings.
“Come and sit with me as I tell you a tale of how a simple barbarian became the greatest wizard in all the lands…”
0:09 When the mage decides to kick some asses
0:25 When the mage begins to kick some asses
Can't believe how much effort must have gone into this...
Made full well knowing there'd be no real recognition, the mark of a true artist

2:18 a SUPERB attempt!
Any kind of wizard that can beat the ever living crap of a monster with his bare hands only is my kind of leader of any campaign he wants to go
Woah this is a great cover! It really does retain that dynamic feel of the original soundtrack.
this soundtrack deserved this
thank you so much TONY DICKINSON

HOW IN THE SEVEN HELLS DID I MISS THIS GEM!?
You just earned a sub, my friend. This is quality stuff.
This title theme is so awesome, and that awesomeness was totally kept intact in this superb cover. Bravo!
THE NOTE AND THE REVERB AT 1:09 IS SO GODDAMN🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
Wait, how has this gone without getting a comment?! This is fucking brilliant! Great work!
distilled and concentrated prog
holy shit
Amazing work Tony Dickinson
This is such an amazing rendition of the song! Damn
My ears can't believe this! This piece of art keeps providing and providing with each second! AMAZING!!!!
If Grant Kirkhope turned to be a metal guitarist, this is the closer you get to Tim Follin having a rock/metal band.
jesus that is one fukken ripped wizard
The commercial for this game tho
In all seriousness. This cover is fucking GOOD.
sound like a song from YES or Rush ^^ this is exactly what i imagine to listen when i listen the original.
Rush was one of Follins' inspirations for the Solstice theme!
Rush is an amazing band
Well 0:13 is a parallel to 7:51 in yes's awaken, so yeah, definitely.
Y'know that old "You can't hear this picture" meme?
Well, I can SEE this music and it's a massive ParCan rig for the ages... >O.O
0:09 NUT
This is fucking majestic
Leaving a comment to make this more likely to show up in more people's recommended cuz holy shit
Wow, very good! I just listened to the original, and this is pretty close to that. Well made, congrats !
Imagine if this game was remade into some kind of Final Fantasy type game.
Dude i would play the shit out of that
@Klaymodo Post Office
Would love to see a prog rock collab between Uematsu and the Follin brothers tho
Tim Follin brought symphonic metal to the NES
Way more progressive rock than symphonic metal
Wow - bloody SENSATIONAL work!
Just as awe inspiring as the original bit version in my opinion
I listened to many covers of this song and by far this is the best version. Much talent.
I know I'm over a decade late to this party, but excellent job 🤘
Little-known fact : the picture of a wizard on the cover is actually just a portrait of Rick Wakeman
Anyone have more covers by this guy. I'm having a hard time because the name brings up movies and songs by big name bands.
This sis the guy's website www.tonydickinson.net/
Thanks!!!

When the barbarian goes to university and gets a masters degree
Oh man, that was awesome. Pure metal on an old 8 bit favorite. Job well done.
That is rad! Loved the prog feeling.
This thing bangs so hard it blows your balls right off, but only because the new ones this song makes grow need to room.
YES!!!!!
This is fire and does justice by the original. Imaginative without compromising the..... I have no word for what I want to say. Brb going to school
is this how it feels to go super saiyan 3
Amazing cover! Thanks for sharing this with us
If Emerson Lake and Palmer delved into prog metal. I dig it.
It's more like Dream Thather feat. Rick Wakeman, like Milio said above
Truly amazing. Tim would be proud!! (And so would Dream Theater.)
¡QUE VAINA TAN BRUTAL! ESTE ES LA MEJOR CANCION DE CUALQUIER JUEGO DE NINTENDO.
THIS FUCKS. SO HARD.
This sounds like a rip from Smash Bros. Dear lord.

WWOOOOW, MAN! Awesome version!
Best video game title theme ever
I cast PROTEIN POWDER
I cast MUSCLE FLEX
Fantastic. I'd put this game in when i was young just to listen to the theme music :D
I really wanna make this song for rocksmith but only saw one site listing it and they were forced to take it down it said.
+Scott Annonson Probably couldn't play it anyway oh well.
+Scott Annonson this would be ace to learn on guitar but yeah I think this one is out of our skill range lol! There's a guy here on youtube that did a guitar cover of this and he said it's the hardest song he's ever had to learn
I think I saw that video its what discouraged me lol.
This is up with my "Wipeout XL" soundtrack, but beats it up!
BATTLE SORCERER, WHO NEEDS ANY TEAMMATES? YOU ARE THE TEAM! GO FORTH! DESTROY!
This is amazing!!!
If i didnt knew this game and you were to told me this song is from Liquid Tension Experiment or Dream Theater, i would believe you instantly.
This is amazing. I would love to hear the same arrangement for the gameplay music,
Now your playing with power! *guitar solo* !!!!
Oh my GOD! This is amazing! Rock on bud! \m/
The original composed by the great Tim Follins (depicted on the cover)
Whoa.. This was heavy

Awakia The bass-line's progression matches Canon exactly, if I can still hear properly :P.
They have a point, the background is exactly like Canon.. i could probably just play the actual canon with it on my piano if i looped it
+Kayak Fan +cr1901 I didn't hear it because my headphones, but It's in the same key? Also, could be the chords but not the melody.
Yeah, it's just the progression.
This is outstanding.
dude this is genius. excellent job...
HOLY FUCK
Has Danny (of NSP and Game Grumps) seen this? He needs to.
Wow! I haven't even played the game yet and this cover just blew my fuckin balls off!!!!!
