- I'm not one to tell anyone about what they should do with their hard earned money... but this one is interesting. It is a Seiko Prospex diver that costs more than many Grand Seiko models, and more than many Swiss luxury watches. Is it worth it? Let me know your thoughts below

As long as we talk that Seiko is a brand less than other Swiss brands, then people will always think that Seiko is actually a low-end brand..., I personally prefer this watch over Omega Seamaster and Rolex submariner. And for those who think this is stupid, let them be. I'm happy because I know why!
You HAVE to be able to appreciate the stealth aspect, obviously spring drive, and realize that 99% of people are not looking at what's on your wrist...and could care less. Love the bezel action on this.
You could say the exact same for grand seiko
What stealth aspect? Not with a crown that's bigger than Elon Musk's bank account.11:23
We're not talking about the mass of it. Stealth doesn't relate to size here. We're talking about stealth "wealth" as in an unusually larger price tag of a watch that presents itself as a relatively pedestrian Seiko.
@@pilotwjf I was talking about the mass of it and the dopey crown.
99% of people don't look at your wrist when you wear anything but a Rolex. I get more comments on my Vostok than my Breitling.
This is a brilliant watch. I have always preferred this type of Seiko vs the Grand. Especially because of the fact that you can say to your wife that it costed 300€ 😂
😂
Spot on!
This is a fantastic watch and it really is a fantastic stealth piece. There is nothing comparable to Spring Drive and this watch really embodies that 6159 feel and timeless beauty.
This watch won 2019 GPHG diver category.
I got one in 2021 for my 40th birthday. Still love it until now.
Positives: superior timekeeping precision with spring drive, smooth seconds hand sweep, powerful lume, superb finishing on the polished parts, nice bracelet design, light weight of titanium, wrist presence😂, (personal)preferred handset over the GS diver handset.
Negatives: high price point (but i was able to get this brand new for about $4,600 after discount), thick clasp because of the ratchet system, oversized crown (likely for ease of use with gloves on).
I dont mind the thickness of the case since i never wear long sleeves.
Great review❤
That's a great discount, awesome value for money at that price
@@vincentschneuwly9783 yes, if anyone is interested in this watch, im sure seiko AD would give it to you with a nice discount. I have also seen it on C24 at less than SRP so you could try there as well. Or if you dont mind buying used, that is also a more cost cutting option
@@japanwatchconnection really though losing or gaining value only matters if you ever sell the watch, which i have no plans in doing unless my life takes a negative turn 😅
No wonder all of Seiko’s watches under $1500 are just straight up garbage. They try to convince you that their Hardlex is tougher and will not shatter like Sapphire, yet this $6000 Seiko has a Sapphire crystal 😂 They don’t like telling their customers how much harder of a hit you need to shatter a sapphire crystal, over a Hardlex.
@@Ericdagreat how dare you apply critical thinking into this hobby 🤪 😅
I’ve had mine for over a year and this watch stood out to me for so many reasons. Light weight because of the titanium. Not small. I’m no tone of the many who wants a thin, 38 mm dive watch. Dive watches should be large and legible and this one certainly is. The finish is as good as any higher end brand. The spring drive is just amazing and so cool if you can get past the snobby “mechanical only” mindset. Mine had run 5 to 6 seconds fast a month since I got it. And last but not least I love that it says Seiko. Not everyone buys a watch simply because of the brand name on it. Someone on here says this is like a $70k Camry but I’d say it’s more like a $100k Land Cruiser. Tough and built for a purpose with no corners cut. Also I bought mine in new condition for $2.8k. Another nice thing is these are not being marked upon like crazy simply because of the brand name written on them.
I own the LE black titanium SBDB037 version of this watch and it's absolutely amazing. The cermet bezel insert, gold seconds hand and black dial all play so well off of each other. I had to go grab it and throw it on while watching this video.
Amazing content as always, Bruce, keep it up!
Buy a Rolex to impress others, buy a Seiko Spring Drive to impress yourself!!
Nobody will wonder if it’s real like a Rolex either!
I just took the plunge today and ordered one, largely on the back of this review. Keep up the great reviews Bruce.
This is a crazy watch in person. I was blown away
I live in Boise Idaho. Not the mecca for watches and especially not for Seiko and Grand Seiko's. But I was traveling to Boston and stayed the Copely Mariott Hotel with no idea where or what was around me. I was actually staying at a Hotel connected to the Copley Mall next door. Guess what? Grand Seiko Boutique baby, and a Carl Bucherer (10 watch brands (( Rolex, Tudor, Longines, Breguet, Panerai, ++)) and pre-owned Rolex) store, a Tag Heuer, and a Montblanc store. I was in Watch heaven and only a 3 minute walk from my lobby and never going outside. I loved the new Grand Seiko Spring Drivers I saw. Super nice. But that price? Wow! Now seeing this Seiko Spring Drive Diver is more along the lines of reality. Thanks for the update. Going to Boston? Recommend Copely Square area. Super cool!
These are fantastic watches. I have the SNR045 with the amazingly beautiful and cool green dial and green bezel insert. Under the radar for sure but man, they are so awesome.
👍Appreciated both the “stealth” aspect and the “Seikopaths” you mentioned!😜
You didn't have to convince me on this one. It's a Boss!
I found a used Green moss dial for $3250. So i pulled the trigger. Was going for a BB58 in S&G but nearly half price LX spring drive blows the Tudor . Though i will get a Tudor S&G someday , perhaps the Chrono .
But i love that ftom a distance it looks like a Seiko MM300. Up close the zaratsu finishing , the titanium build quality, spring Drive and the green textures in the dial . Wow it is stunning and well engineered. It loses about 5 seconds a month and it has not left my wrist even though i have bought 4 watches . I cannot take it off its light , has great presence withouy showing off. At 3k or so it is a dream but i wouldn't pay 6k .
What a watch .
Own a SNR043. Way nicer than comparable lux models to flex in. Glad to see an LX on the channel Bruce
Best Seiko Dive Watch in my opinion. I bought one. Excellent review, Bruce!
I have a SLA021 MM300 (8L35 not spring drive). And its the BEST watch I own. Even over the more expensive Swiss and German brands in my watch boxes. If you love Spring Drive, the step up to the LX is worth it. The only real down side to the higher end Seiko’s, is you’ll wear all the others you own a lot less. Beautiful watch.
I gotta say I glad I bought this. Best seiko out there if you got the wrist. Spring drive and 16600 sd rokex, shopping done!!
Really like the LX but didnt get it as I owned the MM600 which basically offers everything this does plus a gmt function at a lower price...just recently sold it as one flaw mm600 has it unable to change straps easily. Still got sbga229 so that ticks the box for Seiko springdrive diver for me.
ive been looking at that , i have the SBDX017 AND IT LOOKS ALIKE DIFFERENCE IS SPRING DRIVE MOVEMENT BUT IT IS REALLY NICE LOOKING
Have two of these- the black and the limited brown cermet version. Both great watches and wears much nicer than the MM300 due to the all titanium construction. The bezel IS ABSOLUTELY ceramic and while overall a large watch, it is very comfortable on the wrist. Between these and a Rolex- give me these all day (cause when I buy it’s not for resale).
Yes I’m sure the bezel is ceramic. Owned mine for over a year and have scratched the titanium around the bezel, the bezel is still flawless. Just as scratch proof as my Rolex with ceramic bezel.
Esatto è proprio completamente in ceramica! E soprattutto ceramica di eccellente qualità e resistenza, non capisco dove ha letto che non è ceramica questo ragazzo che ha fatto la recensione...
Great review, Bruce. I have two Seiko LX watches in my collection. I’ve got the SNR041 on my wrist now and despite its large dimensions, it’s a beast of a watch with beautiful finishing. The titanium makes it light to wear and the spring drive sweep of the seconds hand is sublime.
That's quite a watch. I ended up getting the SNR051 as you know but the Rose/Brown SNR041 is the same watch as the SNR029 you feature here both with the extra 10Bar of water resistance. You pay an extra 1K for that but I think it's worth it. Maybe I'll trade up the 051 for an 051 someday (If I can find one!). Great review!
Two very important questions, the besel is ceramic besel and the Watch has a saturation case, He (he Liu m) cant introduce inside the Watch. Thais Watch is a real professional diving watch, a real tool watch and a luxury watch, all in one watch with the history and design of the first seiko proffesional diver. For my is a GS without GS in the face, all the quality of GS in the best Seiko Diver.
All the talk about price made me realize my SLA039 is actually even more expensive at $6,800 MSRP, I guess that adds to the undercover flex-appeal.
The 039 is a special watch. I adore my 037, they are THE top models Seiko has to offer IMO
I love my sla037
@@wd99999 The 037 is so nice, love that one too, but already have 017, so didn't want to have too much crossover, even as a Seiko-path, lol
@@cod-nx2sd wonderful piece, enjoy it!
@@AverageBros I had both 039 & 037 but chose to keep only the 037. Now I want to add back the 039 😂
As owner i am happy with the watch its realy nice in person
I like the fact that this watch is branded as Seiko !
it could've been easely branded as GS and coast at least 2-3 thousand more.
@@japanwatchconnection no I paid $4000
I own the 029J with the 5R65 movement, the Spring Drive movement is on a different level, the Zaratsu finish is the best I've seen lately, Titanium Grade5 feels better than my stainless steel watch, 72 hour Power reserve is super handy, makes storing watches real easy, ceramic bezel is rish and clicks at 120, got mine for 5K last summer Chrono 24, 029J is tall and not for everyone, need a dress watch in formal meetings for sure, it scratches easy but im careful, its heavier than my GShock😅, it looks like a wanna be Blancpain Filthy Fathom diver my LX diver but, other that my 029J is been a great time keeper, thank you Spring Drive movement.
We have to keep in mind that Seiko it's a luxury brand as well. Seikosha started as high end and then they started selling cheaper versions overseas.
@@IDKline no because not in a single point in history they stopped having their high end department. The perception that Seiko was a 200$ watch brand was exclusive to the west and overseas purely due to lack of info.
nice video and presentation
Quiet luxury, cant see it any otherway. Consider this a one watch collection for some and that price will start to make sense.
Good description- quiet luxury
Great video..👍 Only for Seikopaths…
The LXs were amazing. I’ve got a SNR049 Skyline GMT. Easily up there with my Omegas or Rolexes. High end Seiko are amazing watches - often much more imaginative than the Swiss, with fantastic finish and tech.
Dig it. You could wear it without getting mugged around here. Price is nuts though, on this and the Grand Seiko. If these prices catch hold and last, people will start getting mugged for their Grand Seikos….
Have the one on the rubber strap had it 2 years had no problems. The only thing is that it's very thick . But it's very light because its titanium
Great you did LX review! I haven’t seen a lot of videos about them
I wish the bezel was angled downwards a bit. And this is the first time I've heard the term "Seikopath". I like it.
Beautiful watch!
There is a LOT to love about this one... but it's a hockey puck on your wrist and the price is nutz! Slim that down to a 13mm thick case and drop the price by ~ $2K and I'd buy one. :) Of course others love it and buy it so that's also a great thing.
I am the happy owner of a Grand Seiko, a King Seiko and a SLA065.. So for me, this watch is just beautiful.. love it
Hello! Do you know if the watch has a similar L-gasket as the Tuna? I've understood that at least the MM 300 has one.
Thank you for the reply in advance!
I like it. Then again, I think this is a piece for someone who doesn't care about kudos, and doesn't care about money, but is still appreciative of the quality. Cause I can see this losing a shit load of money. That considered, the stealth aspect is a big bonus.. "Ah it's just a Seiko" unlikely to get mugged! Those that know, KNOW! 😛
Its actually awesome i love when seiko go crazy
Thank you very much, this was a great video.
Do you think there's any chance that Seiko will release a Turtle with a Spring Drive movement? I would love that watch so much!
If I had to guess I would say no. Though I would welcome anything beside the 4r
@@BruceWilliams I see. Is there any chance for a Prospex “Captain Willard” shape watch with a Spring Drive?
Is the bezel insert not ceramic? Multiple sources say it is. Or is it cemet? The SNR043 bezel insert is cemet
I literally just took possession of a watch thats very niche.... the Tissot PRX 18k fluted bezel. I fucking love it
The PRX is definitely not niche and very very mainstream.. still a nice watch tho
Edit: a lot of my non watch friends have it
I love the LX collection. Gave the blue GMT a miss and went with the special edition
Is the LX series being discontinued by Seiko?
It's nice, but I'll keep my Blumo that you convinced me to buy a few years ago. 😁 I think this is a case of diminishing returns.
This has been on my short list for a few years but when I get to a point to snag something a Tudor/omega/used Rolex seem to beat it out for the money. My SLA043 is scratching that itch but something super cool about this if it could be had for closer to 4K…
Also have an 043, bet you’d love an sla055. I love mine.
Thinner and the ever bright
Polish is amazing! Just no spring drive.
@@jeremyelliott9831 been very tempted by that and the 057... wish they'd make more in that case shape in some other colorways but that mm200ish size seems really perfect...
Wow, that's a big boi, how is that gunna slide under a cuff? Even the clasp is 10mm thick. Beast.
I want that movement and clasp for my Willard.
If I see someone wearing a tudor or breitling im gonna say oh nice watch. If I see someone wearing this Seiko LX im gonna say WOW!
Hello Bruce!! Can you review the new limited Landmaster Sla071!
Awesome watch. Very much it's own thing. Nicer than the Grand Seiko's IMHO.
It's light and titanium?
Can this watch be customized in any way?
that grand seiko is lovely but the lx version looks way more masculine
Rolflex or Seikopath either way people are going to have something to say about it so wear whatever you like. If I want stealthy I’ll wear my G-shock.😄
I like the watch!
Hey Bruce, turn on the lights, don’t like the new set
For the movement and finishing, im hard pressed to say it doesn't justify its price but i just couldnt pay 6k for a seiko. This thig has potential to be an absolute bargain on the used market down the line though. Imagine this level of watch for like 4k.
I like your videos ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you
I actually prefer the looks of the seiko to the gs, but... can't afford neither 😂
That is utterly FINE! LOVE IT! Ive owned the Seiko 600m Spring Drive twice and I miss it and regret that I sold it twice. Man if I could afford this exact Seiko Spring Dive Diver, I would be wearing it now! I've actually tried my best not to watch or I avoid seeing this one because I know it's out of my reach. Man it's perfect! Great diver to review! Spring Drive is the most accurate smooth movement on the planet.

Looks a whole lot like an SLA055, except thicker and a blander dial. But the makers, hands and case shape is exactly the same.
I get it.
Hard to belive that's not a GS!
Power meter on the dial though...
At least no lume plot at 3.
I’d give you 3k for one - which might happen on the preowned gray market 18-24 months down the line
Bruce Williams it’s normal for the price it’s a SPRINGDRIVE no matter if branded GRAND SEIKO KING SEIKO OR SEIKO it’s a Spring Drive for god sake 😅
This is a beautiful watch. May it be worth 6000$ ? At the place of a grand seiko ?
Does the bezel at least line up?
It’s an mm 300 on steds but it’s not for me.
stealthy.... LMAO😂
The Seiko MM300 beats it in price/quality 😁
This is you basically getting the MarineMaster300 for a sixth or seventh time. 😂
Funny thing is, this GS is not even comfortable to wear compared to a Panerai Luminor 44mm. Or even 47mm
Since Exquisite Timepieces is an authorized Seiko dealer, why is Seiko asking $6,000 for this piece?
"I don't want to let people know how much I spent on this."
*Makes a TH-cam video for the whole world to know. 🙃
I'd rather get this than a Rolex Submariner. If money was no object that is.
300 meters is not true... emperor tuna has 1000 and in the actual test it went to 4100 meters.
For the money, Seiko/GS’ clasp and extension system is just laughably bad to the point of being non competitive.
Not psychopath, its Seikopath 😅
6k is a joke. It’s oversized. The bracelet is straight up junk, and have the same price as a Rolex OP41.
You can get a Seiko Mod for this look. Just silly
You know what’s the biggest joke?
People who still believe in Swiss fairytales.
@@japanwatchconnection
In English please?
I wish Seiko didn’t do the X on the dial. This is never a $6000 watch!
La ghiera è in ceramica ! The bezel Is ceramic !
1. If your wrist aint BIG dont buy it
2. I rather buy a grand seiko which is a superior version of a seiko specially if im gonna invest 6k
3. The lume is only until the 20 marker. Seriously? Looks incomplete
Just hate the 4 oclock crown
Love it .
A typical Seiko thing, it’s in their DNA.
Just buy an invicta £89 for the blue dial, I had mine 13 years no issues at all
For 6K you’d expect a fully lumed bezel 😂
These watches only wear nice under water
That clasp looks like such trash. I would never buy a GS because of the clasp alone.
careful bruce that troll hairs gonna touch the clouds soon!
I'm trying!
$6k for an unfinished pressed metal clasp and barely wearsble dimensions? Looks good, but you can find similarly priced watches from the same brand that don't cheap out on important aspects
Shame they are cropping up with the Seiko QC issues. I've seen them with the clasp fixing to the bracelet 2mm high at one side. Misssligned bezels of course. 6k is too much to gamble on the QC. Love the watch just not Seikos QC at the moment. Well the last few years...
I must be missing something. A $6000 Seiko Prospex. That clasp looks awful, and seems pressed on the top shell. No on the fly adjustment. Dive extension looks terrible. I get the finish looks sublime, and it's spring drive, but outside of that I don't see the value. If Seiko were criminally under valued in the past, they are criminally over priced now.
I love Seiko, but no thanks!
I love Seiko and this is a beautiful watch. But someone needs to grab Seiko by the neck and shake them for hours. Who do they think wants 16mm thick, 44mm watches with a gigantic clasp? WTF? PLEASE STOP
No way. Thick as puck (pun intended). Even with all the GS level of finishing, the bracelet and clasp are awwwwul. Buy an SPB187, get your Seiko fix and move on. Seiko is delusional.
Epic fail here seiko 🤣😂🤣
This watch is such a head-scratcher. I have no idea why anyone would buy it. What is the value proposition…??? It’s like paying $70k for a Toyota Camry when you can buy the Lexus for $60k. The watch is beautiful, but c’mon…paying $6k for Seiko branding 😂.
