The dealer is lucky that she didn't miscount against Hellmuth or Matusow, the table would have gone flying. Sammartino didn't respond perfectly, but at least he didn't rip into the dealer.

Sammartino's delayed reaction is human... He also probably didn't want to make a fuss, there's a big chance his tens is ahead.
But the fact he raised his complaint after the hands are revealed... That made the Effel less sympathetic. Doesn't justify his dickish blaise dismissal of the whole thing... But yea.

As Doyle Brunson says " Experience and memory recall is everything for a poker player." Age, time, hard work and experience is very tough to beat.
Hossein Ensan, one of my true heroes. Making Iran and Germany proud. He is a very decent, humble man. He was driving a taxi in his 30's.
Worked hard, he grinded tournaments and cash games in his 40's and 50's. And in 2019 he won the main event for 10 million. Never, Never give up.

But suppose that Marchington goes all in for 22M, Sammartino asks him for a count, and it's not the dealer but Marchington himself who underreports as 17M, and gets a call.
According to the rules as quoted by Effel, since it is "accepted action", then Sammartino is still on the hook, despite the fact that Marchington could have deliberately given a wrong count in order to increase his chances of getting a call.
This is all hypothetical of course, but it seems like strict adherence to this rule opens up a certain avenue for cheating.

Effel deserves a penalty for his little dig at the end. For the guy who is supposed to be the be all end all decision maker, that was a bush league comment. You don’t deserve to be in his position if either a) you think calling 17 bigs is the same as calling 22 bigs or b) you aren’t mature enough to state what the rules are without making a childish comment when one of the players at a huge money decision point gets screwed by a human mistake.

@sammartino: bro! inshallah iam really feeling you, honestly. but i have to tell you that at the end of the day the ruling is absolutly fair and thats because it would have been executed in the exact same way to any other player at this point. i really want you to close your eyes and try to reflect the whole scene thru the eyes of that highly professionial dealer! yes she made a mistake! and yes this could cost somebody a lot of money but that is what you and me and everybody else have to expect and accept! human beeings are vulnerable. also you know for sure is that you always can take a closer look or get a re-count, just to mention. s/o to that sweet mam that made a mistake and never even thought about hiding it whatsoever. kuss geht raus.
