    Finally, I found a channel where they do modifications to sewing machines. I like all things technical and electronic, and the best part of this hobby is the modding. I've been fixing old sewing machines for a while now, and I've also been trying to find videos on how to mod them. Now I can combine my interest in sewing machines and my desire to mod things. Thank you.

    That 237 is one of my favorite machines. You sure pumped it up here !!

      Yes, I agree that this is a remarkable machine, and it is still quite easy to get spare parts. I hope it will withstand the increased loads I put on it for the small projects I got for it. Most zigzag machines are sensitive to traction problems, which can lead to the needle being bended forward or back while stitching. But with this machine the hook pass the needle to the side, and therefore it will cope with such problems much better.

    Do you have a video about the gear reduction of this particular machine? I cannot find the moment you are talking about it.

      Thanks for the question. This is the video about the speed reducer. It is on a Singer 201, but it is done in exactly the same way: th-cam.com/video/oNsLv1BByN0/w-d-xo.html
      I got a playlist regarding all the videos about modifications regarding the Singer 237: th-cam.com/play/PLhBGyDo4tov86GVVCUzTF9RyH7HHW_Ha6.html

    Concerning this machine with heavy duty modifications, do you think this machine would be capable of sewing sailboat sails, canvas and cushion covers for my boat?

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I think it can do it with the modifications. I know that most sailors use Tex 90 (V92) sewing thread, and it is a size below what I have used my Singer 237 for. Of cause a Sailrite LZ1 or an industrial sewing machine may be better for such jobs, but they will also be more expensive and heavier machines.

    Hallo, can I have this dream of slow sewing on my 237 also? What do I need to do, and buy? Thank you! Are you in Germany? Regards, Miriam

      I made a video about a speed reducer - please look that. This is the main thing to add. But I have not seen it sold for household sewing machines, so it is DIY. If you need excellent low speed control, then it becomes more complicated. I know about electronics and were able to make that DIY too - and I made a video about that too, but then you need somebody that know about electronics to make that. I guess the easiest thing to do is to use a servo motor for industrial sewing machines. But it requires you to have the sewing machine in a sewing machine table with the servo motor mounted to the table.
      I live in Denmark, but I am active in a German forum called Nähmaschinentecknik-Forum. In this forum some other ways of doing good low speed control have been discussed too. So If you understand German language, I suggest you look there too.

    I have a Singer 201-2, I would like to control the maximum speed and use the foot control. Is there a way to limit the maximum speed? In this video you seem to do that but did not explain what is needed to do that. Great videos by the way! Thank You!

      Thanks for looking.
      The industrial servo motors normaly have functions to do that, but it is a major change to install the machine like an industrial machine. You may have looked my other video about the modifications made, and it includes a speed reducer, and it improve the speed control of the machine. I made two videos with the 201 about speed control, and about the DIY electronics to improve the speed control. Please ask again if you got more questions to this or the other videos.

    I have a 447, which is the same machine. I'm waiting for a new vertical gear to come from China, and when it does, I'll will try this. Did you make any modification to the bobbin?

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Singer 447 is very different to Singer 237. The Singer 447 got a horizontal double rotating hook and is threaded from the front. The Singer 237 got a vertical oscillating CB shuttle hook, and it is threaded from the left. The bobbin is the spool, and you do not make modifications to that. But I did make an improvement to the shuttle hook of the Singer 237.

      Hello Rosa. Thank you for your reply. I cannot cannot read Spanish, so I tried google translate on your text. I live in Europe, and do not know much about how to get parts in Mexico. But I needed a supplier in US to send me a new race gate: www.vintagesingerparts.com/products/bobbin-race-cover-fits-singer-models-237-239?_pos=2&_sid=7953c8cce&_ss=r
      Regarding presser feet, this machine use ordinary low shank feed, that is used on a lot of different sewing machines. I am sure this US supplier can supply you one that fits too, and you may find other good things they supply there too.
      This video is about the modifications I made to the Singer 237: th-cam.com/video/1ChOcvsJku4/w-d-xo.html
