    Niche Perfume is truly my weakness. 300 bucks for a cashmere sweater? No way. 300 bucks for a niche lemon scent? Not a second thought :D

      Oh my goodness lol this spoke to me- I waited years to finally buy a $160 USD cardigan from FARM Rio, but Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Ylang Nosy Be? I trialed it for one day before spending $200 on a full bottle. What even?? Lol

    Love this! I'm learning I'm not much of a designer fragrance person and so want to branch out into niche. A fun video would be the opposite of this, what ~weird~ niche fragrances do you like or grew on you?

    I love fragrance but since I got my dog, I realized that I cannot experiment with fragrance much. It confuses him. I now have a summer scent and I will switch in September. Because I have only 2 for the year, I like to make sure I love what I pick. I love this channel and I’m happy to see your passion project is a success!

    Alright!! Cool girl tea on niech perfumes. ready to write ✍️. btw Pacifica is technically considered Nich, and they have a perfume- Tahitian vanilla. A cheapy but a goody!!
    Also Cheirosa 40 to me smells like vanilla sugar from my childhood. It also has plum. It's one of my absolute ride or die scents. Especially when l spray it on top of Love Don't be shy. They synergize beautifully and smell like heaven together.
    By the way Lauren, here's a suggestion:
    l bought an empty perfume bottle from Amazon that came with a miniscule funnel, (or save an empty bottle you can unscrew the sprayer component). I sprayed 20 sprays from all of my best vanilla perfumes- Kayali, 7 virtues, etc. and then added a few of the cheaper vanilla scents from Pacifica- tahitian vanilla and Silver moon (their sweet leaning Baccarat 540 dupe), BBW- midnight amber glow, VS- bare vanilla. And l top off the bottle with the sçent l want it to smell mostly off, with an extra of 40 more drops of my favorite scent. Then you get a beast mode vanilla perfume that is a complicated bouquet of all the notes and nuances that you put there! I made a rose perfume too some more musky, some more powdery, and others with a crisp scent of a fresh rose, leaves and stem. Also made a citrus mix. All are amazing!!

    I bought the ELDO discovery kit on a birthday trip to New Orleans. I was SO excited to go to the perfume boutique, pick out a full size fragrance and then got the kit. I ended up hating every single one! I so wish I’d gone for a full size fragrance I’d already liked

    Would love to see your top 10 challenging niche perfumes video! 💕 love hearing about fragrances that take you for a wild ride.
    One of my favourite perfumes that I would consider not blind buy safe is carner barcelona Palo Santo. It's not *crazy* challenging or anything but the milk/rum combo is definitely not for everyone lol. But I pretty much love anything strongly lactonic 😅

  • @ashleylala4293
    @ashleylala4293 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I was also shocked to see how the prices of niche fragrances have sky-rocketed over the last 20 years. I collect a LOT of fragrances but I definitely can’t afford to buy full bottles that often with prices the way they are now. Thank God for discount sites, subscription services and samples/decants!
    I remember when Jo Malone was $50 for a 1 oz bottle. I liked that brand so much more before Lauder bought it.

    Am I the only person who doesn’t have any issues wearing traditional cold weather fragrances in the summer? Granted I’m an indoor cat most of the time, but I only wear winter and fall fragrances and rock them with no problem 365 days a year. I don’t think twice about breaking out By The Fireplace or Kayali Vanilla 28 during a heatwave if the mood strikes me. I’m not even sure I own a summer appropriate fragrance. It’s been over 100 degrees every day for almost two weeks now and I think the lightest perfume I’ve worn in that time was either Very Good Girl Glam or Flowerbomb Nectar, which are only light in comparison to the Nishane Ani I wore today. 😂

    • @xaiyu4104
      @xaiyu4104 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope I’m the same I wear what I want whenever I want I don’t care what season it is. I think people that tell you a fragrance is only a winter/cold weather fragrance just do it so they sound like they know what they are talking about. I wore girl of now (the O.G) everyone says cold weather only but it performs absolutely amazing in the heat.

    i'm gonna add to the état libre d'orange recommendations: i personally love remarkable people!
    it's got this beautiful sparkling grapefruit-champagne top paired with some warm spicyness on a base of sun-baked, aromatic sandalwood. it also wears so beautifully on my skin, where the jasmine gives off a slight soapiness, and the citrus just kind of floats around you, making you feel fresh and clean and joyful. but then the warm spicy woodiness clings closer to your skin and just gives that feeling of warmth and coziness. it's such a good easy reach!

    ELDO is great! I love 'I am Trash' and 'Fat Electrician'. JHAG is also a house I really vibe with, Pear Inc and Moscow Mule are awesome. Just got Montale's Amber Musk in the mail this week and I'm loving the full size because my sample was almost up. I have several BR540 dupes because I just can't justify the full price for now. Orientica Amber Rouge is my favorite dupe.

    I don't hear anyone talking about them, so maybe they're Australia only, but Who is Elijah is absolutely rocking my world at the moment. I love them all but Nightcap is really doing it for me. They're very unisex, light, skin scents, woody combos. And they do really great discovery sets so it's low risk and lots of bang for your buck.

    I would also add Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods, and either Juliette Has A Gun Mmmm or Vanilla Vibes. I’m not sure if Kayali is considered a niche house, but if they are, then most of their scents are also lovely. All really approachable if stepping into niche fragrances and the Kayali ones are a great option if someone wants to experiment with layering for the first time as they all mix together really well.

    As a perfume lover, I have a piece of advice: please do not start buying niche or so-called niche, especially those perfumes that are exorbitantly priced. Honestly, IMO, it is not worth it. I have designer perfumes with decent prices, timeless fragrances created by master perfumers, beautiful and with good longevity, and I do not have to pay 200 dollars for a measly 30 ml. Mind you, this is just my opinion. I am not bashing people who buy niche.

    I love I am Trash. It’s lovely in the summer. My fragrance journey has taken me to vintage and niche offerings and quite a few indie houses. I love visiting perfume shops and pharmacies when I travel. I still have to visit the Osmotheque in Versailles. That’s on my bucket list. I want to visit the Zoo in New York. I would recommend reading Luca Turin’s The Guide. It’s a great read for perfume exploration. It’s cutting sometimes and amusing but really a great education on scent and how to explore and experience fragrance. I am a big believer in knowing the classic scents and the history of fragrance. It’s an excellent way to get to know fragrances and how you can enjoy what’s happening in the niche world. So many perfumers work in both the niche and designer worlds. If you like something in the designer world you’ll probably love what they are making for a niche or indie brand.

    I would love to know what was your first full bottle of a more challenging fragrance that you purchased? Mine was Mad Madame by JHAG. I HATED patchouli for my entire life so buying a perfume that had a prominent patchouli with animalic notes was a huge departure from my usual taste. The rose was just so pretty that it sucked me in and I had to have it. I wear it when I want other people to keep their distance and preserve my personal space. 😂

    Question about Tihota: How does it compare with Comptoir Sud Pacifique's various vanillas? I absolutely love vanilla in general, but the CSP note is super cloying to the point of being more vanilla extract than vanilla bean. I keep eyeballing the Indult one, but I'm nervous about dropping a bunch of cash on something that is too cloying to wear. :/

    I wore Baccarat as my signature years ago and it was the first perfume that I truly loved on me, and now I try different perfumes that lists similar notes or dupes I am so disappointed 😢 Why does everything else just smell off? Really want to find less expensive options that bring me the same joy

    I love the brand Juliannas Perfumes bc they do dupes of niche fragrances and they KILL IT with the clones. They’re high oil concentration so sometimes - a lot of times - they out preform the originals. That might be a easier way for people to try these perfumes in a lower budget way.
    My newest purchase from them was the Diptique philosykos one - it’s freaking amazing.

    Speaking of beginners friendly niche smells, have you tried Le Point G by Véronique Gabai?
    It’s a light floral that’s also a little sweet. I especially love to pair it with baccarat.
    Notes: Pink Pepper, Rose, Iris, Vanilla, White Musks, Leather, Cedar Wood

    So funny that you mentioned perfumes smelling like pee. I feel that way about Byredo Blanche but everyone else just mentions what a clean smell it is. I have no idea why it smells like urine to me.

    Question: do perfumes expire??

    • @patr70
      @patr70 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not for several years.. but that depends on the quality of the fragrance and if you store them correctly. Keep them away from direct sunlight becuase the sunlight breaks down the fragrances.. so keep them in a dark dwarer or cupboard. Steam from the shower can break them down too.. so don't store them in the bathroom. Heat also breaks them down so, if possible, don't keep them in warm/hot places.

      Yes they do. If you feel like a perfume you’ve had for a long time doesn’t smell the same, that’s probably why.
      That doesn’t mean they become hazardous to wear, they just start smelling funky.

      Yes and no. You almost always lose the top notes but if a fragrance is stored properly and sealed well it will last a very, very long time. I have fragrances that are eighty years old and they are still astonishingly lovely. Some of the newer fragrances are less stable. The so called natural scents can be very vulnerable to oxidation and deterioration. The can last a lot longer if you keep them well sealed in a cool, dark and dry place. I have some that are fully fine and twenty years old. The naturals behave more like a wine. They continue to age but they will age more favourably if you take care with them.

      They can go bad but it could take years. I have a 12 year old Dior that's still fabulous 🤩.
