Things I don't like (base model, 5 speed):
    Delay in the electronic throttle
Hard seats (not normally a problem, but sometimes my wallet finds itself in the wrong place, and becomes a pain in the tush)
Speakers are absolutely terrible (may vary on trim).
Halogen low beams are also mediocre on hilly terrain.
That's pretty much it. As for engine noise, the 2.0 actually sounds better I feel. This has been a car that is fun, yet sacrifices little practicality.
The 5 speed is also quite good, though the tuning of the electonic throttle does make this a fairly unforgiving car to drive stick with. I've also heard Mazdas eat clutches, though I will probably find out soon enough.

Useless video. I own a 2010 Mazda 3i 4door it’s been rock solid as a daily. Some things we’ve noticed..
If you are buying one used check the suspension/struts and rear end sway links for wear. Common wear items most people don’t replace and their will be a ton of bounce/ shake.
The Bluetooth on ours can be a bit finicky to auto connect. It’s just old tech. sometimes track forward button works with Bluetooth other times not.
The factory speakers are okay but previous owner blew one of them.
The doors will collect lot of water during a car wash or rain but easy to dry off doesn’t get stuck inside fenders/no rain drains like a Miata.
Ours was a million times better with new KYB shocks/struts all around new rear end sway links and computer alignment but if I had to do it again I would recommend spending a little more for coil overs for better ride quality and adjustable height
Not too much complaints it’s been pretty reliable commuter. It’s not a race car.

As a 5 year owner of 2012 Mazda 3 hatch skyactiv I can tell you 5 things I dislike about my car:
    1. No way to pop the hatch from inside the cabin
    2. Dummy pedal can be set further back as my left leg will sometimes cramp.
    3. I have the cloth seats and after 102k miles, you can see where it's wearing down a bit in between my legs towards the front of the seat (i am going to buy junkyard leather seats)
    4. Surprisingly, my paint is getting the "paint cancer" along the bottom window line on the hatch, I live in FL but I do wash and wax my car regularly to precisely combat such things from happening. I'll have to take a clay bar and rubbing compound to the area, hopefully, it isn't too far gone so I can save it before it becomes a real problem.
    5. Another shocker is the rust, I'm getting rust starting to form where the hatch meets the car's roofline. The rust isn't on the hatch or roof but in the empty space between the two, where the water runs off the roof into the channel and around the hatch. Problem is I have to take the Hatch off, sand and spray paint the spot if I don't want a leaky hatch in the future.
However, I do love my car, and these things wouldn't sway me from purchasing it again. It's never left me stranded, I haven't had to do anything but tires, 1 battery, oil changes, air filter, cabin filter plugs and belt on it for maintenance, all normal wear things, no surprises.

I'm wondering whether anyone has considered doing cosmetic upgrades to the Mazda 3 SP25 BL Series 1 or the Mazda 3 SP20 SkyActiv BL Series 2 to make it look more upmarket? Given that they are both built on the BL Platform based off Ford C1 Platform I'm wondering whether it would make sense to use Volvo C30, Volvo S40 or Volvo V50 as a basis for cosmetic upgrades?
Upgrades potentially include the following (depending on what can be obtained aftermarket, by the way, does anyone know of any quality aftermarket products that hopefully incorporate multiple functions into one device, hence reducing dashboard clutter):
    • Brake Emergency Display - Hazard/Stoplights
    • Park Distance - Rear
    • Active (Cornering/steering)
    • Electric Level Adjustment headlights
    • See me home headlights
    • Headlight Washers
    • Driving Lamps
    • Electric Level Adjustment
    • Illuminated (puddle lamps) Door Mirrors
    • Information Display - Drivetrain
    • On-board Computer
    • Sports Instruments
    • Bonnet - Active Safety
    • Control - Crash Avoidance with Braking (Low spd)
    • Camera - Rear - Potential Solution is PARKMATE 4.3" REAR VIEW MIRROR MONITOR, Gator 9IN MIRROR MOUNT LIVE STREAM CAMERA KIT, PARKMATE MIRROR & MINI CAMERA REVERSING SYSTEM
    • Daytime Running Lamps - LED
    • Heated Electric Side Door Mirrors
    • Multi-function Control Screen - Colour
    • Digital Instrument Display - Full
    Additional aftermarket upgrades:
Heads up Display that shows speed, GPS directions (like the HUD in the Citroen DS5), Reverse Camera would be fantastic

Number 1: You shouldn't steer with one hand! It's a car, its not a stormtrooper. If the wheel slips you will make some ones day vary unhappy.
Number 2: The engine sounds as a working engine on a economy city car as this is. Spend more money get a better engine (and sound)
Number 3: Back of the car has a trunk, try it out. Also the glove box is a black hole, you can hide a dead body there.
Number 4: This is like saying "My nose makes my face too clustered, it should have been over my mouth. ;)
But seriously. This car has far bigger issues than this: Cheap plastic on the dash board that starts to creak easy. Rough suspension even on smooth roads. Not enough engine power for the smaller engines even is reved. Back seat space is quite cramped for bigger passengers, a joke of a navigation and infotainment screens, and on and on.
Gotta say though, i do like the car :)

    • @Lauren_C
      @Lauren_C 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I do agree, the car taken by itself is great. The ride is rough, though for spirited driving, this is actually preferred. However, there are not a lot In the way of internal amenities.
Plastic, plastic everywhere. While I've seen much more flimsy plastic in a Charger, the economy feel is strong. At speeds, internal noise is also quite high.
The smaller engine definitely shines with the manual though. The final drive is pretty ridiculously short, and goes a long way to making the car fun to drive (without stomping on the speed limits). City mileage is also very good with the 5 speed, though on the highway, you're turning 3K rpm at 65 mph in 5th gear.

  • @JasonBelliveau
    @JasonBelliveau 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    i would have went with.
    1. the thermostat is over the alternate. so i can be a dick when you need to change it.
    2. the linkage for the shiftier rust out because it covered in plastic. so it retains water.
    3. all the plastic under the car that will not come off because the bolts rust or it breaks off because you hit the smallest amount of snow.
    4. if you have the 2010 it does not have the new SkyActiv engine that was introduced in 2011. so fuel mileage is ok but could be better.

What I don’t get is your name is “helpful diy”, but everything you don’t like about this car CAN be changed if you have some tool knowledge and a diy attitude. What kind of channel are you running here?

    1. Learn to drive better
    2. IT'S AN ECONOMY CAR or get an intake/exhaust
    3. What you keeping in there?
    4. Ok good point, those are pointless.
But hey is this are the worst things, that's an awesome car!

  • @SamuelGlover
    @SamuelGlover 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Wow, you are extremely picky. You should have thought of these before you bought the car. If your previous car was a 2008 cobalt with repair after repair, you would be absolutely loving this car like I am. What could you not like about 40mpg. Yes I’ll agree it lacks some luxury things I would like, but I’ll happily take those away for a good running car.
