      @@UberNinjaification hmmm meh... idk. Closer to Bungie? Yes... but still far from it. Tbh, they should have left the Forerunners a mistery. It was so much more interesting seeing those ancient alien structures and wondering what those ancient creatures might have looked like.
      Also regarding the weapon designs: The Plasma Pistol/Rifle where copied by the Covenant from actual Forerunner weapons. So it would've made much more sense for them to look similar to the Plasma Pistol/Rifle.
      But I also understand, that 343 had to continue Halo somehow. But changing all of it's artstyle certainly didn't help. Especially the Forerunner designs. They scream Transformers more than ancient forgotten civilization. Everything is clean and shiny and there's just way too many unnecessary details everywhere. Doesn't make any sense.

      @@chrisjanzen7748 I agree. Prometheans look like plastic toys. It's a common writing rule that things we don't see are far cooler/scarier/etc. That applied to the forerunners. Now their just kinda meh

    Guilty Spark goes blue to red when he has lethal intent - it would of been cool if the guns were blue while walking in an area without enemies but once in a gunfight or enemies show on your motion sensor it would change to yellow/red

      This is an amazing idea, it would give the prometheans weapons something to distinguish them from just "robot shotgun" or "robot sniper" while being inspired from the original trilogy

      Like blue means the gun has its safety on. It switches to yellow with enemies around. Then red when fired.

      I just don’t like how the Binary rifle looks. Sure it’s cool but the original sleeker design really made it look deadly as a sniping weapon.

      Hmmm. Wouldn't really count Atriox as "Covenant" per se as the way he thinks is so radically different. They do use a lot of Covenant technology, so in that way sure, I'd say they are like a splinter faction of the Covenant.

      @@blueshit199 Actually no Atriox while at war with the UNSC by the spirit of Fire, Atriox apparently has humans in his Banish faction and the detail that the Banish kicked the covenant asses to high water.

    The light rifle redesign was definitely my favorite even though I wasn't expecting it to be since I loved the original design so much already. The redesign definitely feels like something that the forerunners would use, and it hit the perfect spot of adding new elements while keeping what made the original design look great

      Yeah, the original was my favorite of the promethean arsenal as well. I absolutely love how much more weird and foreign the Light Rifle looks after the redesign. It fit very well with looking like something that a human would never be able to understand simply by looking at it and in my opinion, it's possibly the coolest redesign I've seen so far in his work.

    In some ways, I like the idea of forerunner weapons being more human, as it's pretty clear that Bungie originally intended forerunners to be ancient humans before 343 totally retconned that. Though our only instance of a forerunner weapon previously was the sentinel beam which was pretty alien itself.

      To be fair the sentinel beam wasn't really meant to be used how it is in-game sinnce it's literally part of the sentinels themselves which makes it come off as more alien

    I feel that an important part of the prometheans is that they are different to the architecture, because for one they are built by different factions of forerunners but secondly our weapons don’t look like our architecture.

      Yeah until you look at how the architecture in Halo 4 and 5 breaks that comparison. I just want the guns to be consistent with what we know the Forerunners were capable of in the past.

      I do agree with that sentiment. It crossed my mind as well, but I just cannot agree with the end result of this line of logic that we were presented in the games. So until a better alternative is provided, (perhaps by Infinite) these wernissage designs are ones that I’d have to classify as feeling a lot more forerunner than the originals

    I like the suppressor design. In my opinion the 343 designs for the light rifle and scattershot are pretty good as is, maybe just need some simplification.

      I like his idea, I just think these new designs make the guns look square and like bricks rather than actual weapons, I couldn’t imagine seeing these designs in game because they would look bad. I think he oversimplified in this case

    For the Scattershot's ironsight you could've replaced it with a holographic sight, since that's actually make sense for it to be floating while still achieving the same desired look

    I think what’s throwing me off is how light they are. Good designs no doubt but I feel like the other designs looked more sinister with the darker color pallet. Maybe you disagree but that’s just my take. Great work!

      yeah, If the colors where blue in the lights I could imagine one of the sentinels using the redesigns but these weapons are not made for sentinels! They were made for the promethean robots and their builders (the forerunners who in contrast to the sentinels had hands similar to humans). The forerunners couldn't use these guns! who in there right mind would make a gun for humans that humans (and human like aliens') couldn't use?

      I remember seeing early footage of Halo 4 where the Prometheans were different. The Knights were able to turn into a ball and roll around and the Watchers(?) looked much closer to Sentinels.

    If you looked into some of the bungie forerunner concept art you might have found more inspiration for the bungie era also are you gonna try redesigning the promethean Knights etc that would be awesome

    So if i remember there is a lore reason for why forerunner tech isn't entirely uniform and that is simply many of their installations and weapons/sentinels were built at different points in the forerunners history, the stuff in the 343 games were from not long before their downfall while the halo rings are significantly older than even their shield worlds. It makes sense that things would look different across their eras when it comes to such a long lived empire

    I love your designs usually, but I really gotta say that this time around, I'm not feeling these. While they kinda hit the mark aesthetically for being more faithful to the artstyle, one thing 343 did right imo was make them more sleek, where yours seem more sharp and jagged, something that I do not feel fits the forerunner aesthetic. While the architecture is full of abrupt angles, you don't get the feeling that you would cut yourself on a Beam Emitter tower, for instance. These, however, look very sharp.
    Just my input.

    A bit of a nitpick, but I feel there's a reason some of their designs look a little human. It's because the Forerunners are a human adjacent race, they are the sister race to humans, they were made by the same creators, so it makes sense that they would also follow a more human design.

      Well the Forerunners themselves didn't wield these weapons (in the games), their robotic constructs did and as a result they shouldn't have been bound by any such restrictions, and if you look at the fact that even things like the dog-like Crawlers or flying Watchers use weapons that have clearly defined grips it makes even less sense. Look at how Bungie did this idea better with the Sentinel Beam and how it was not "held" by a Sentinel but was part of its body, and when humanoids try to wield it they did so in a very awkward way. Just imagine how interesting all of the Promethean weapons could have looked like if they were also haphazardly gripped and/or fired by the player

    Damn I wasn’t sure exactly HOW you were gonna do it, considering our only real in-game taste of forerunner weaponry was the sentinel beam: but each time I saw one I was like “yeah that’s forerunner alright”. Your ability to design within the understanding of halo is mind-blowing

    honestly this is time i've preferred all the original designs. i actually really like the design of the promethean weapons and i think they would fit pretty well into the bungie games with just a few small changes.

      @@reddracen2193 I mean. I won't say that it's not a possibility that you're right. But, The prometheans we fight in game are extremely new on the scale of the forerunner-flood war. I can't find an actual timeline for this right now. But it seems that they were created towards the last few decades of the war. This, Combined with the fact that we see the Librarian use a binary rifle on the Didact leads me to believe that the forerunners wouldn't waste precious time developing new weapons for the Didact's deranged plan, And instead that they just hold normal forerunner weapons as used and developed during the rest of the war.
      Furthermore, We've seen forerunner weapons not designed to be held in the form of the sentinel beam. Which has no grip as pointed out in the video.

    I have loved every single one of your designs but I just can’t force myself to like the Suppressor or Light Rifle here, I think its the textures. They look too bricky/building like. I know you were using their structures as a base but our building don’t look like AK’s or AR’s they look like weapons. The forerunners are also humanoid.

    The Forerunners were complex in their simplicity. One would look at structures knowing that despite their polygonal design and flat pallate, they represented a technology god-like next to even the Covenant's. To our human minds, these structures should not function; components seem to be missing, and yet they work like magic. That made them mysterious, monolithic, and terryfying, and 343 made them too familiar.

Giving is a gun with a handle, instead of something like a cannon that materializes around your arm and atomizes your enemies, is either lazy or an attempt to make them relatable, which defeats their purpose as a story element. It's just boring.

    For me the biggest problem is mechanically they act just like UNSC weapons. This was one of my issue with the covenant weapons in H2 and H3. UNSC weapons were Ammo and Clips while Covenant were Battery and Heat. But then more Covenant weapons became Ammo and Clip mechanics which was sensible (especially for the Brute Weapons) and UNSC only got one weapon that was Battery and Heat also sensible for an experimental weapon and after more exposure to covenant and forerunner tech.
    For a mechanical solution I think having all Promethean weapons use the same ammo would be an interesting start. It makes more sense of hardlight ammo as it could take any shape with the ammo fitting the weapon. Also could create an Ammo ability that refills weapon so you don't blow through it all with an incinerator only to have nothing left for your suppressor.

    Even if you didn't include the incineration cannon or the turret we truly are satisfied. Through the video I watched all the designs and they made me think "wow that looks so unnatural and weird" and that's exactly what they are supposed to be. You created a feeling those weapons never actually gave before. That improvement is an artistic kind of talent

    I liked your redesigns and I feel like they perfectly encapsulate what you were going for, however I feel like they don't really fit the Promethean aesthetic, rather the (bungie) Forerunner one.
    The Promethean weapons don't have a "standard" configuration, they adapt to whomever is holding the rifle (for example, when knights hold the scattershot, the grip is removed; and when crawlers hold the suppressor, the weapon is totally incorporated into their heads) and is the reason why both the floaty bits and the familiar shapes make sense, though you could argue against the latter in favour of variety (I too am not a fan of the light rifle's design).

    The only problem i have with your ideas abut remaking forerunner weapon, is when you say it doesnt look alien enough and to human. Forerunners are humanoids like humans so their weapons are supposed to look a little bit like ours. Each covenant weapons were made by different species by different armories etc.

      And to add on to your point, the Forerunners despite their somewhat alien appearance have a lot of similarities with humans in appearance, hence their humanoid nature, which was even discussed in Point of Light and this is spoilers.....
      Forerunners and Humans (both current and Ancient Humans) share a common ancestor that was created by the Precursors.

    I prefer the Human-like grips. Alien or not, the Forerunners who originally used Promethean weapons had hands similar to a Human. Naturally the grips would be similar when the hands that use the grips were similar.

      The reason we wont get this is that bungie designed the covenants weapons for the player to be able to dodge them, while the player had access to faster weapons that hit almost instantly, playing as an elite against the unsc would be infuriating

    I am more accepting of the original designs because we really only saw one type of Forerunner weapon before Halo 4, the Sentinel Beam, which was designed primarily for, well, Sentinels. So, we really had no example of how a Forerunner weapon SHOULD look like. Plus, Human weapons don't look very much like Human architecture. Not to mention the Prometheans were the elite forces of the Forerunner's Warrior Servant caste, so they would more likely get more advanced weaponry. I hope I am making sense.

    Amazing work once again! I especially loved the suppressor design as it added a bit of needed bulk to the silhouette.
    One critique though is that the new models seem a tad flat, maybe try doing studies on lighting on angled surfaces or draw the weapon at different angles? All in all though keep up the great work!

    These look great, but I think you may have taken the inspiration from the architecture a bit too far, especially with the Binary Rifle. They look less like guns and more like Forerunner buildings.

    i personally love how bungie made the covenant weapons lore-wise be reverse engineered from forerunner weapons, and 343 took that little nugget of info and ran with it. the designs really feel like they inspired the covenant weapons, and you have definitely done them justice.

    I don't care much at all for these redesigns, which is contrasting to the rest of your videos. I don't think it's appropriate to use the design of architecture for the design of small arms. This may be the case for the covenant, but it works there because smooth lines are ergonomic and look like they could be wielded by organic beings. I actually kind of like 343s direction here.

    11:12 that "trigger bit" is part of the scattershot's break-action design. When the barrel folds down for reloading, that "trigger bit" stops the barrel. That way the barrel doesn't flop everywhere or pinch the user's hand.

    Don't worry. I won't start insulting you or anything. I know that most things can't satisfy everyone
    I just can't get myself to like the "overly simplistic" designs. While part of it might be cause of your designs being 2D in nature, I generally disliked the blocky-ness
    I liked your attempt at distinguishing the Binary rifle however. Maybe a bit more leaning towards the original design would be nice. But it's just me
    The Lightrifle and Scattershot's redesigns, however, don't sit well with me
    I do wish 343 had done a bit more to make the designs more "alien", but I still prefer the original ones
    I appreciate your effort tho. And, once again, I'm just sharing my opinion. Not looking to pick a fight
    PS: I was really hoping that you'd talk about changing some of their functionalities as people complain about them being too similar to human weapons

    These are all fantastic redesigns, I legitimately would love to see these modeled and put into a Halo 4 mod for MCC. They look so much closer to forerunner designs and somehow just looking at them is making me nostalgic for Halo CE.

    Tbh think they look to basic, the light rifles hole at the end is way too big and the beam rifle looks more like a Canon then a sniper. Now from a lore point of view the Promethean weapons look different to the sentinel beam and other Forerunner weapons that have been seen before because they were designed by the didactic for his army against the flood and maybe the librarian designed the sentinels and general design of the halo and ark designs

    Hmm...I've seen a few of your videos by now and most of the time, even in designs I disagree with I can see the merit in the why and how, with weapons or armour having a more hybrid style between the classic and the modern and trying to employ both.
    Here though I...I'm sorry but the designs presented are honestly not in keeping with the Forerunner design at all. Like, for example, enemies like the Sentinels and their beam weapons while simple have complexity to them, they appear as high tech as they are practical but...well...with the designs presented you've kind of just taken the outline of each weapon and made them blocky and...almost too simple.
    Forerunner tech, even in their structures while appearing simple on the outside always had complexity under the hood, they in their own way had smooth angles, complex constructs. They did not build bricks.
    So while I appreciate the effort and accept that yeah this is a hobby for you (Because TH-cam likes to make it impossible to go full time on it) this one unfortunately are my least liked out of the designs you've presented. They simply make me appreciate the 343 designs more, how while yes they have a few more floating parts than Bungie's forerunner weapons, they indeed have simple, strong designs. Methinks the issue may more be lined up towards the designs of the Knights, the Soldiers, the enemies that hold these weapons, because in the hands of a Spartan they fit like a glove.

    I have watched all of these videos back to back and I have some criticism on these redesigned looks. I like that you are attempting something like this let's start there. But I can't help but notice the overwhelming use of boxing or hard edging in all of your redesigned looks. I mean yes you say you like the old and vintage look of halo, but halo was on old generation consoles. This definitely impacted how things looked but we are in the process of moving into a more complex environment of consoles, so they'll finally have the look closer to the identity those designs elements envisioned by the creator of the series. Not sure if they want their evolved beings to look so archaic with hard edges and flat non state of the art aspects like the floating parts of the reassembling weapons. Which function as they do in Spartan and non promeathan hands because they are fully integrated into their armor like proto knights and even the crawlers. So they have the behavior of normal functioning weapons also for game play reason but that's a different thing altogether. All this to say that these designs seem to ignore the overall purpose they made to serve in universe. So while they may look interesting they are still in my opinion completely missing the mark of future tense halo universe designs.

      Agreed. Both the Supressor and Light Rifle are most surely fitting to Forerunner aesthetic and arsenal.
      It also amazes me how *@Wernissage - The Art of Halo* 's Circle-Part of the Light-Rifle is of similar implied-function with the Heatwave.
      Bravo to both him and, especially, 343i Creative Team finally applying more unique functions to alien guns. 😁

    Personally I like the original designs more. Not to say your designs are bad.
    For me I can see merit to changing the stocks and grips to be more alianistic as you have, as well as changing up the designs to follow some of Bungies Forerunner designs.
    I think a solid middle ground would be good, keeping 343s base design but more subtly adapting your alterations to their silhouette, to me, would be the most ideal.

    The Light Rifle is probably my favorite redesign you've made for these promethean weapons. It's the closest to what I used to always think Forerunner weapons would truly look like, and it gave me serious Sentinel Beam vibes, which I thought was amazing. I always loved how weird and foreign the Sentinel Beam was, how there never seemed to be an obvious trigger or sights and fired a laser. The Light Rifle(yes I was a fan of the original too in Halo 4 and it looked the simplest out of the arsenal. But this redesign made it truly Forerunner in my opinion. It's lost almost all its UNSC-esque vibes, and there's far less detail, which I appreciate very much. The circle in the back with a single beam going out and the very blocky, simple looking floating scope really sells the curcuit-like designs I associate with the Forerunners from the Bungie era. The Suppressor isn't far behind, with the redesign simplifiying and blockifying the design as whole. It looks far more futuristic to me now and retains the circuit-like design that was originally part of the Forerunner look. Th Binary Rifle too looks really awesome, with how weird it looks. I expected some bizzare looking yet futuristic laser guns, and the redesigned Binary Rifle does that quite well. It's a very unique design in the backward sweep it has going on. As for the scattershot I was hoping it would get a general overhaul to look less like a UNSC shotgun as clearly but it's a good design that is aesthetically pleasing to look at nontheless. It still looks great, with my only complaint being that it doesn't look foreign enough, not enough of the circuit look on unlike how the Binary RIfle got.
    Overall the redesigns I think fit very nicely into the classic Halo art style and emphasises the alien, futuristic, and somewhat fantasy-like aspects of the Forerunners. It's less obvious where things like the trigger are and bring to mind more lasers than bullets while getting rid of excessive details.

    Honestly, these are better, but I still don't like the overall ideas behind the weapons. They are literally "the forerunner battle rifle", "the forerunner shotgun", or "the forerunner sniper".
    They were very lazy in their design.

      I love the sentinel beam and the pistol in halo 4. The shotgun/pistol in one combinaison, in one gun, was, in my opinion, a clever idea and a futuristic technologic. It can show the well advance forerunner thecnologi. For the forerunner, I would keep the pistol in halo 4, the sentinel beam and the incinerator cannon. That it. I think that all we need.

    All in all these are good designs, but I feel that you missed that these aren’t forerunner weapons, they are promethian weapons. Promethians are mainly converted humans, so the grips being human makes sense. That’s really the only issue I have, the rest of the designs are spot on with bungies smooth forerunner aesthetic

      Actually a lot of them are Forerunners, and the original ones were Forerunners. This doesn’t really change your point much bc the Forerunners were not only humanoids but related to humans as well.

      I agree with your point. I like that different rates have different aesthetics, and I love the Promethean/Warrior-Servant designs and how vibrant and organic it looks!! They're a stark contrast to the Builder's intricate carvings and monolithic style that has a creepy and mysterious vibe to it.

      @@DaMasta981 Actually the first autonomous robots were Forerunners, when the Didact was desperate he turned to converting humans.

    I feel like looking at the Sentinel Beam could’ve helped a little, considering it’s the only Forerunner weapon in Bungie’s Halo. Honestly, I’m not sure I’m feeling these ones, but to be fair there’s not many Forerunner weaponry to compare to, so you did a fine job with what you had. Keep up the good work Chief.

    The Prometheans in my opinion were my favorite faction, so I appreciate the redesign of the weapons to give it a more of a forerunner look also i love all the redesigns.

    As much as I love your redesigns, I think you adhered too strictly to 45 degree angles, especially with the suppressor and the lightrifle. I also can’t see how they would be able to ‘split’ which was the most distinctive feature of the Promethean weapons for me, but that’s more distinctive when they’re animated. That scattershot is freaking perfect though.

    Now that Halo Infinite has three Forerunner weapons to look at, The Heatwave, The Sentinel Beam and The Cindershot does that mean these weapons will need to be re-redesigned? (Four if you include the Forerunner Blaster Toy)

      There’s also The Forerunner Automated Turret from Halo 3 and that Forerunner weapon from Halo Legends to look at too
