Love this. You can say what you want about Greg Lake as a guitar player, but i think the solo in Tarkus just blows that all outta the water. It may not be the most technical solo ever, but its RIGHT, and so many years on, it still sends shivers down my spine every damn time i hear it. And love. LOVE the nod to Epitaph....just sublime.

August 4, 1974 at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. There I was, counting 36 semi trucks for the equipment for this show. I knew then and there it was going to be something special. My first quadrophonic sound system experience. But man, the rhythmic melodic sound of this Battlefield song put me in one thoughtful reflective place. I was not prepared for what came next: Aquatarkus live. OMG. They took it to another level, and then some. One of those moments you never forget.

I have this 3 LP set for more than 30 years (I have the CD set too) and this is still the crown jewel of my records collection. Words just can't describe how epic their performance were, especially Tarkus and Karn Evil 9.

@Paul Yuen How about having this quad album (2) on a quad Sansui SR717 direct drive turntable (with quad stylus [needle] )blasting through a Sansui QRX7500 quad receiver with 4 Kenwood 7070 speakers in 1975 in West Germany? You kids have no idea how It sounded!!!! Between the hash and other drugs, it was fucking awesome!! I even had a pair of quad headphones as to not annoy my pig snitch roommate.

I used to go spend the summer with my Grandmother every year. Brought tapes to listen to. This was one. Grandma was a piano and organ player. Anyways, she stole this album from me. A few months later, we went to visit. She had gotten a mini moog. Took me into the other room to listen. My Dad was so confused. 😂

Michael H Fogg that post made me LITERALLY LOL right here in my living room by myself! Tears are streaming down my cheeks! You have a very open well rounded Grandma who discerned fine talent when she heard it. Even enough to go BUY a freakin’ MiniMoog for herself! THAT in itself blew me away! And, I can just picture your Dad shaking his head while Grandma noodles around on the Moog!! Absolutely priceless story! Thanks for sharing.

I don't really listen to music Prog these days, or ELP for this matter but rate the 'Tarkus' section of 'Welcome Back My Friends..' very highly. The bleakness of the 'Crimson part is superb. Also think that end section, hearing the band playing together with so much driving energy....is quite unique in music for its time. Its almost like a forerunner of Techno.

in 1974(!). En het verveelt nog steeds niet!!

The speakers were 15" bass, 6 way, 5 speaker as I seem to remember.
Traded it all for a car and a motorcycle which I ended up junking. Ooops!
