Don Robbins Yes... and a high standard for young musicians to attempt at that time. Few, if any, reached that caliber, but all who tried became better players from the influence of Keith Emerson, Greg Leke, and Carl Palmer. Thank you ELP
My very first concert, as a teen. I had listened to this album, over and over with headphones. Pretty amazing show, circa late seventies......Pirates, and they played this one, as well.
My teenage years were filled with ELP, Floyd, YES, Kansas, 'Tull and many many other Prog Rock groups. How lucky our generation was to be there when this music was being created. RIP Keith & Greg. You set the bar very very high!
02R96:Always encouraging & gratifying hearing from my fellow program rock fans.Keep the celebrations alive & the music playing on & on.Gotta see the show,it's rock 'n roll.
One of the most timeless fantastic pieces of Music ever recorded, years ahead of its time and technology.thank you keith,Keith, and carl.l will always consider this as one of my favorite journeys into classic music.
Earlier last year, I started really getting into Prog, and Google play recommended ELP's Brain Salad Surgery based on my selections. I purchased it, and it was during Karn Evil 9 that I realized that it was where we get the "Welcome back my friends" song that is always played on the radio. It was one of the most amazing musical moments I have ever heard. RIP Keith Emerson.
Amazing,Amazing,Amazing and others billions time again ,this opera prog/rock Is phenomenal, thanks soooooooooo much ELP my Heroes Forever and everrrrrrrr, from here to eternity, from Treviso Italy
I thought when I was younger this music was unusual and not mainstream, it was at the forefront of progressive rock. I was just learning the piano. I did n't appreciate the brilliance of the organ keyboard playing but this is absolute keyboard playing at its best. Emerson raised the bar of keyboards in a time when electric guitar was at the forefront. An incredible keyboard player, few will ever rival him and best rock keyboardist followed by Rick Wakeman. Emerson had more of a rock feel than Wakeman. Any credible rock keyboardist will no doubt acknowledge Emerson as finest. Use of sounds via moog, keyboards incredible . RIP Keith Emerson, than you for your brilliance and the legacy and light you have shone for keyboard players.
My older brother became a keyboard player partly because of Emerson. He listened to ELP constantly for years. Listening to their albums takes me right back to my childhood.
A high quality school friend said "Hey want some Brain Salad Surgery? " I said.?.He had a top of the line stereo system with Quad surround sound. This album just took my breath away stunning me!.Till this day it still blows me away.We saw them at Yale Bowl in New Haven, still my best show I've seen besides PF in Miami in 1980.
This was my first real album that l got, fell in love with it.Greg Lake what a voice,my daughter said the other week the album cover fascinated her when she was little, she wouldn't look inside though,l think it scared her.lol.even now husband thinks I'm weird to like this.well l don't care at 67 your still not to old to rock , ROCK ON
They sang in 1973 about the deranged horrorshow our society has now: bad music, bad movies, shallowness, youngsters focused on bullshit, greed, all legitimized as quality entertainment and culture, and, in the end, a.i. taking over humanity.
What's really sad is that the kids don't realize that their ears have been raised on a subsistence diet of musical PB&J/bologna sammiches and black instant coffee.
If any UK based ELP fan guitarist/vocalists who can play & sing Greg's parts would like to get together and have a go then please message me here via TH-cam. I have a lot of their numbers sorted on keyboards and also have a drummer waiting..! Hope to hear from some of you soon... Raffy.
Question: wasn't this album recorded in *Quadraphonic Sound?* I believe the ending of this epic featured the last keyboard loop going around and around the listener, if you had the four speakers & set up at home. I never had that, myself. Can anyone confirm this distant memory?
You are correct, we had the 8 track version quadraphonic sound 4 speakers, one in each corner of the room, sound spinning around and around, I was 9 in 1974 when my dad came back with this! still have it but CD version, played it a couple of times in the summer Volume cranked up to 11 never get tired of it
"I am perfect, are you"? Sadly, ELP should have taken those words to heart......5 yrs late , "Love Beach"? Sometimes its best to pack it in when you're on top of your game...
This one might please Greg Lake and Keith Emerson. Slim-Pickin's lately. Signed, Jesus Christ The Messiah Eternal Life Party New Earth Advocate "The Only Good Rocker Is: The One That's Dead Already"
Thanks, I'll take the bait. Frankly, there is no comparison. "Better" is a opinion based, subjective term, and to pit Yes v ELP is like comparing apples to oranges. While both groups get categorized as "progressive rock"; their styles, approach, intent & purpose couldn't have been more different.
Sorry, I have understand nothing about the discussion between ELP und Yes aspectly to progressive Rock: But always they were my favourites in all rock music. All their rock was always near by best classical music. In my young years-1970 etc, I heard very much of my time music from these both:ELP and Yes.Surely, I knowed many others. But these twos concentrated often my ear.
Great record. We were very lucky to have great music like this as teenagers. Thank you ELP.
Don Robbins Yes... and a high standard for young musicians to attempt at that time. Few, if any, reached that caliber, but all who tried became better players from the influence of Keith Emerson, Greg Leke, and Carl Palmer. Thank you ELP
Just saying.

Fuck yeah
Yes indeed
It gets better and better every time I listen to it. What a trip!
This remains one of the songs I refer my younger friends to when I talk about the great music in the good old days.

ELP was on of my favorite bands back then, but I'd great to be reminded how innovative they were, how well their music stands up 50 years later.
Pure musical greatness
Un pezzo sublime.C'e' tutto, genio, creatività, tecnica, classe.Grandi💥👏❤️
ELP. My favorite band. That ever made. Progressive rock. Cool

Un aniversario más sin el gran Keith Emerson pero aún continua alimentando nuestro espíritu con sus grandes interpretaciones por siempre Keith.

Genius!
Super great can't say more.
RIP Keith and Greg. Legends
We had Pink Floyd, Prog rock like ELP and Kansas, Neil Young, Yes, countless others. Now they have Kanye West, Nickleback, and Toby Keith.
What's really sad is that the kids don't realize that their ears have been raised on a subsistence diet of musical PB&J/bologna sammiches and black instant coffee.
This era of music is probably the best thing The British Empire has ever given to mankind.
Such talent.
And the piano spins no more.
And the voice is silenced.... :(
But the drums still keep the beat to our lives...
listening to Brain Salad Surgery very very loud

8:35 The part you'd hear on the radio a lot.
Wat mooie muziek!
I had the triple album once.
'Prog Rock' personified...
It's great song after Pink Floyd's Shine on you crazy Diamond!
is this a littlle bit higher pitched?
+Barış Usseli I think it is. I've got the vinyl album and the CD and they are definitely a half-step lower.
Sounds better that way.
Henry Stanley i personally didn't like it but opinions are opinions.
+Barış Usseli ..Most likely for copyright issues.
+Barış Usseli Opinions, I know, but I honestly don't see any problem, if anyway, half-step higher makes most songs sound better for me.
Carl Palmer's the shiznick
Can someone tell me if any of the albums have all three parts? All I can seem to find is pt. 2.
Same thing happens when I search for Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall
This version contains all the three parts of Karn Evil 9.
Brain Salad Surgery is the original album.
"I am perfect, are you"? Sadly, ELP should have taken those words to heart......5 yrs late , "Love Beach"? Sometimes its best to pack it in when you're on top of your game...
