@@vincewhirlwind1778 It was too short, lol. Seriously, though, they didn't play Grieg's "in the Hall of the Mountain King" during Aquatarkus... I know that was exclusive to the tour during '72 and they were probably tired of that routine by '74, but the inclusion of that piece would have made the improv during Aquatarkus perfect in my opinion.
This version is incredible but the crazy 12 minute Aquatarkus done on July 26, 1974 at Rich Stadium is my favorite: th-cam.com/video/y-fK2atMWBM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P2P8AYHyHTlI2za_
They don't even remotely make music comparable to this these days. This is a true masterpiece. ELP has allways been my favorite band. Keith Emerson was a true genius and an amazing. Musician and composer. Sadly he died so tragically and early. RIP.
This my favorite composition from Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Carl Palmer is at his best on piece of music. I have always loved his interpretation on his accustic stainless steel kit. Outstanding!!
Carl Palmer is much more on a roll on this live version than on the original studio track, which is fantastic in itself, but somewhat dull compared to this superb live version
My CD version is a Japanese import. The track divisions were messed up but I made a recut version of my rip that sorts everything out. I bought the vinyl when I was about 12 years old and it's absolutely incomparable.
It was a unique privilege to listen to masterpieces of this absolute level when I was a teenager..Groups like ELP, Yes and Genesis are the Mozarts of their age. Fifty years later their music still rocks more than ever!
I've heard other interpretations of this: orchestral, jazz, piano solo, even handbell choir. Nothing beats the Hammond, Moogs, drums, bass and electric guitar played faster than the studio version.
I witnessed this live in 1974 at empire pool wembley london in quadraphomic sound ... it changed my life forever I'm now 66 and this still blows me away ... you really had to be there to understand how damn magnificent this was .. it was a once in a lifetime experience and NEVER bettered
I remember when I bought the triple album in 1976 when I was 15. This is my favorite compilation. Great ELP performance. All of them are perfect. Thank you ELP.
What happened to Jacksyzk remixing this album? All the "remastering" in the world won't fix what it is - quad-fold-down-to-stereo. The best live Tarkus performance, though. Nobody can deny how on-fire they're here, Anaheim 2/74.
@davidl.7317 Nice. 1974 is a little before my time. Folks saw them, though - Coshocton University, OH 1972. Said they were really loud. Closet thing I have to that is Pocono on the same tour; was put out on RSD 2019. Palmer kept speeding the songs up and Emerson tries to slow him down. There's some tracks from on YT. They weren't in the pocket as good then; WBMYF is where they got it down perfect.
@mrJimCharles Yes. Polish guy with big dark hair. He did the same for Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery in 2015. JJ then wrote online he was to start on WBMF, Emerson died, JJ deleted post, then crickets. JJ did state the reason why WBMF sounds distant is because it's a quadrophonic folded down to stereo. Then I recently heard Sabbath's Paranoid quad folded down to stereo...same thing, sounds distant and that's a studio album. So a proper stereo mix of WBMF would be a massive improvement. Mar Y Sol and Pocono are stereo mixes and both sound great. Thing is, those performances aren't as fire as the WBMF performances.
I've been playing drums for over 30 years. ELP was just a little bit before my time. How come growing up with the list of great and legendary drummers in the world how come Carl Palmer's name is never mentioned on that list everybody always bowing down to Ginger John and Keith but not a whisper about Carl. WTF I was robbed
Those 'Greatest {fill in the blank}' lists are usually nothing more than a popularity contest. Although ELP were wildly popular in the 1970's, the uniqueness of their music (ie; it's not blues based, and they didn't have any top40 hit singles) led to their being a somewhat 'forgotten' band, although ELP fans (such as myself) and true aficionados of great talent and great musicians will regard them highly forever.
I was 14 when it came out and I used to idolize it. Only later I discovered that from 19:39 on they heavily "borrow" from Dick Hyman's "The Minotaur", a track from his masterpiece album Moog: The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman, which was released in 1969. Suddenly, all its avant garde turned to retro...
I was the same age when I got the album. I only recently found out about this "borrowing" - I'm really surprised Keith did not give album credit for this
It was pro recorded live by Wally Heider on a 24 track machine at the Anaheim Convention Center in Feb, 1974 for a triple live album released 8/19/74. The album documented the BSS tour. They were at the top of their game.
@@islandpalm148my only complaint about this album is that they have never released the encore of pictures at an exhibition. Their version on this tour was amazing, I think the best we have comes from California jam. I've always wondered if that version isn't sitting in a can somewhere. If so I hope it shows up soon
A nearly perfect song. This performance is the gold standard for live progressive rock!
I agree 👍
"nearly perfect" Which aspect of this piece is lacking, that in your opinion, makes it less than perfect?

Great version of Tarkus! The ELP triple live album was incredible. I listened to the vinyl over & over. Later, I picked it up on CD. Timeless music.
I should find a copy of this on CD, I had the 8-track version. If I remember it was pink, with the blue label, stood out in my 8-track case.
My CD version is a Japanese import. The track divisions were messed up but I made a recut version of my rip that sorts everything out. I bought the vinyl when I was about 12 years old and it's absolutely incomparable.
For a concert recorded over 50 years ago, the audio dynamics and clarity is excellent.
This is one of the best performances of Tarkus I have ever heard. Mind-blowing.

My fav track on a superb live album🎸🎶.Aquatarkus is unbelievably good✨👌Prefer this to the studio version
True masterpiece!
Wow wowwow, Aquatarkus what a performance absolutely out of this world !!!!
Love greg's epitaph bit

Greatest musicians of all time!!!!!!!!
this is one of the best.
Brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing this classic masterpiece
The guys going into a samba during the Aquatarkus improv,,, fantastic,,,,
This album got me through bootcamp. They couldn't break me because I had this song in my head. In fact, I broke them. FTN.
Perfect! Love you.

This is the most intense music I've ever heard.
I so miss bands using synthesizers like EL&P did.
