I'm both a miniature painter and a nose ring fan. Don't know the guys names yet but beard and hat guy reminds me of the literal cage fighter Paul "Bear Jew" Craig. Podcast is lacking in septum representation though.
Great show. Been listening the past 2 months and working my way through the back episodes too. Painting while listening and enjoying the banter, inside jokes, life advice and everyone’s candid honesty about struggles in painting etc. looking forward to another good year, please keep up the podcast videos!
Great chat again gents. Had this on while painting so didn't notice the nose ring until the end! Another jam packed tip Bonanza thankyou. My mate masks his minis with cling film as well and it's a clever idea. Just let the paint dry first before removing the cling film to reduce risk of getting paint on the mini. Also, I had the exact same reservations about magnifying headsets as James but my better half who worked in the optician industry for a decade advises that our eyes won't get weaker from using lenses much like we can't fix eyesight issues by making people wear weaker prescriptions. At worst you'll get eye ache from looking at things at different focal lengths while wearing them. As with anything, taking breaks is golden. Painting daily is my biggest revelation this year. Even 20 mins before bed chucking some ink on something. It keeps the motivation high as you're constantly making progress. Have a great Xmas Everyone.
Zen and the Art of Archery by Eugene Herrigel and Becoming the Instrument by Kenny Werner are two books that aren't related to hobbyinbg/painting, but have vastly improved my ability to connect with my painting process. They've had a profound impact on my sessions and have helped me maximize my enjoyment of each session
Speaking of painting journals... I picked one up after listening to this podcast - but I also picked up one of those little photo printers that prints 2x3 sticky photos (I think they're for scrap-booking?) to put next to my journal entry. That way, I have a visual available of what I was writing about, which helps a lot for my learning.
I too was hoping my “video of asking for your primarchs” count would get ludicrously high too, but thank you gentlemen for answering my question all the same. The weekly podcast has been something for me to look forward to since it started, so thank you guys a ton. Also, James definitely had the best answer even though it was expected, Sanguinius forever.
Very proud that you chose my nidvember suggestion, and I've never even painted a nid in my 35 ( of an on) in the hobby. Love you're podcast, keep up the good work guys 😃 P.s. i will play along all year.
For me, best motivation is an event. Sign up for an event, low stakes, maybe 1000 points, and it forces you to lock in a force and paint it. Parts of it will be a slog, but at the end, you have a 1000 points you can put on the table that look like a cohesive army, and touch up after the event if you feel like it.
Those hobby hacks are legit, deffo trying out cling film and hole punch. A hobby question on varnishing approaches would be awesome next year. Somewhat disappointed that James didnt clarify what colour his base rims will be for the Mordians.
Gents, please help a brother out. Halved/quartered schemes, any tips on how to progress these (and similar tricky paint jobs)? Would love to hear any tips you have for approaching this. My current stab is: lightest colour first (complete paint job) then overpaint in the darker colour and finish those areas.
Feb-ius Bile is great for Chaos marines, i immediately thought of Decim-ber for Decimus and all traitor marines. But theyre all grouped under CSM on tabletop.
What has been your favourite non GW model/s that you have painted this year? I have been painting the models from "Descent" as I have loved playing the game and I know I have Bolt Action coming to me for Christmas so that might be fun to paint as its not Blood Angels (not that they are bad... obviously)
Straining your eyes by focusing on minute details for hours will only ensure you need glasses AND the magnifier. Remember to use good lighting as well!
At current, 240 views but only 14 thumbs up???? As a viewing community we are lazy.... I didnt realise I wasnt subscribed but I am subbed now. I love the podcast, it breaks up the monotony of helping people fix their IT issues (forgotten passwords galore). Its a the perfect mix of useful insights and bizzare phrases, I look forward to the next

This podcast has fast become the place to be for both miniature painting and nose ring fans
James was feeling left out!

Is there a link to see what Journal James uses?
An excellent way to round off the podcast before Christmas. Merry Sanguinala one and all!
Thanks very much! Have a great Christmas!

Great way to set yourself a deadline and work to it!
I'm very curious abaout your Painting Journal. You mentioned it a lot. What exactly do you put in there?

Thanks for tuning in early! Appreciate it!

It doesn't take seconds to read about the lore. I got down the rabbit hole and emerged hours later.
This one may be particular to me, but in January I'll be working on my Janissary Imperial Guard regiment. Janussary.
Do I now need a nose ring to step up my painting? Are these the real rings of power?
Yes
Great channel I just discovered. Can you share the link for the Hobby Journal?
Be honest, how far into the episode were you before you saw it! :D Well played sir!

Lava planet bases would work for those bkack templars, the colour always pops and helps darker paint schemes
I actually think deathcember would work well.
So angels of death. i.e. any space marine or anything death related from aos. Skeletons etc.
Squig-uary for February!!!
What about about Jewel-Eye for July, themed around elves, eldar or anything with gems ? Ju-legion is a bit how-ya-goin'
Dan Abnett is the master. I cannot imagine the loss immersion that would not exist had he not written so much of the lore for Games Workshop.

Someone has done the summary of the 21 tips ?
Flesh Eater February... for the AOS folks :P
James 'the caveat' 'the plan' otaro
Finally a nose ring!
Always got some time for some james-isms. 😂
And Farsight February should have been town
How is September not SepTaumber?
Because T'au Sept is a thing! So it's T'au Sept-ember!
"Trust the process". If you're new to painting, like me, you don't know what the process is. Prime, paint and highlights? IDK
Concrete Culture!!!
