- Vinland Saga's Farmland Arc being one of my favorite arcs in all of manga, I was dying to see how the anime would be able to give this arc justice. Mappa did not only do just that with season 2, they might have created a masterpiece.

What are your thoughts on this season of Vinland Saga?
I thought this season was truly beautiful. I read the manga back in my junior year of highschool and thought that the adaptation was truly amazing. Im super hyped for season 3
@@zephyyr4171funny coincidence cause I also read the manga in Junior year in high school 😅
@ZupperWill that's awesome lmao. I've been waiting on new chapters I can't get enough 😭 not actually too sure how I feel about the new arc rn bc it's a lot of back and forth but i get the message. I just love seeing hild fr 😂
Peak perfection in storytelling. Ever. Period.
A bit underwhelming season, however it was interesting. I really like the last episode where he gets back home. But in a way I'm happy this season is over.
If vinland saga doesn't win anime of the year in the crunchyroll awards, it's understandable since there is so many top tier anime this year, but thorfinn has to win best protagonist 😊
Vinland>>>>Everything this year
Nah Vinland is better then all the big animes this year imo. The one that would maybe be in the convo for me is jjk season 2 because jjk becomes really fricking good after S1
Anime award shows are always overrated I wouldn’t even bother tbh. The shows that deserve the awards are usually overshadowed by the more popular anime
@@jobnacorconcepcionabad6037We have no enemies
@@christopherross8976 but this time Vinland is actually popular. On the same level of notarity as other big shows
season 2 , Episode 9 was so good. i was tearing up the whole time while Thorfinn was escaping the nightmare and he decides to carry the dead with him
That is still my favorite episode of the season
@@ZupperWillit's my fav interaction with thorfinn and askeladd
@@big3fanboy19 better way to put it. It was by far the most impactful and fan service yet fit the plot so perfectly. They wasted no energy and used every part in my opinion. When Thorfinn said the line "I have no enemies".....that moment and the moment thorfinn realized the arrogance STILL in his ways yet his last command from Askladd was implicit he do better by never returning.....how do you even pick without flip-flopping?
@@king.indigo3692 yeah
Damn really I basically skipped the whole ep💀💀💀
Thorfinn can endure 100 punches from Jomviking but can't take a punch from Ylva, that's how strong Ylva is Lol
He also wasn't expecting it
@@irecordwithaphone1856 Yeah when being punched by jomviking he was moving his body in certain ways to lessen the blow, when he got distracted and punch it hurt alot more
@@irecordwithaphone1856and also, she is thors’s daughter
@@CommentaryOutpostWarrior genes
After those 100 punches of course it would be another child of thors that can knock him out with ease
Surprised you didn’t mention Thorfinn saying the Vinland speech to Arnheid paralleling what thors did in the first episode.
Also unrelated but arnheid was such a tragic character, as she literally had no choice over anything that happened to her. She sort embodied the life a woman at that age especially when she said “a woman can’t do anything to change the idea of men”. She wasn’t even trying to run away as she knew Gardar was dying so all she was doing was just sending him off with the idea of continuing his family. She was just a deeply kind person who was given a horrible life
Life is a test and whatever you deserve will be given after death, that's the reality.
There is many small detail that the anime notice from the manga, like the panel where the Canute throw his sword immediately to the ground after sparing with Wulf. It is only one panel in the manga, but its intention is to depict Canute's internal. He see sword as a burden, yet he is willing to utilize it. He hates the sword, but he believe he is the only one who can wield it.
Ok that’s powerful. I love the idea that Canute is balancing with the curse of the crown and creating heaven on earth. Using the despicable tools for the greater purpose. Thorfinn also mentioning how his journey is difficult than his, where is struggling to not fall from grace in either power or virtue
Her story alone left me emotionally damaged, I don´t think there are much stories that made me so soul crushed as the story of Arnheid, I can´t imagine how anyone could go trough everything she went through.
Her dead look in the bed scene with Ketil where he is emotionally clinging to her and saying she is his light in the darkness and has to stay by his side forever was very disturbing. After that, learning her backstory, the meeting with her husband, having to lose him again while her old wounds being opened again....having no chance but to passively take everything that´s going on...a brief moment of hope after her lonely life on the farm where the only moments of joy are her morning talks by the well that was again crushed....
and waiting for her punishment, after all of this...
It´s sad that Ketil was never able to see her perspective and what he was actually doing to her, I believe he thought he is treating her kindly and giving her a good life, and trusted their feelings are mutual. I would like to see Ketil in the end being confronted with her perspective and in what fucked up situation he actually put her, for example by his old man, who seemed to be able trully emphatize with the people and see things for what they are, unlike Ketil
Canute and Thorfinn’s conversation was a great scene, but Willibald the priest and Canute’s conversation about what Love(Capital L) is in s1 also stands out. These are powerful moments that I’ve never seen in any medium elsewhere.
Facts
Fate/zero has a similiar feeling when they discuss what a true king is. Also classical books tackle this a lot and it's beautiful. Karamazov brothers and particularly aliosha and Ivan come to mind.
@@estebanvelasquez9477 Fr. i got the same feeling from Fate/Zero's talk about what a True King is, and it sticks with me just as much as Thorfinn and Canute's and Canute and Willibald's conversation.
Both shows are masterpieces. Same goes for FSN UBW (haven't watched the original and HF), but it's less about the dialogues and scenes, and more about the characters and the story (not saying Fate/Zero and Vinland Saga don't have good characters and stories; they're just as good as UBW's).
One of the few anime’s where I’ve seen REAL character development
I know what you mean
The characters are so realised and nothing seems to really be contrived or convenient which I appreciate

My girlfriend and I were bawling while watching season 2. One of the greatest anime I've ever seen.
I loved how they portrayed Thorfinn escaping the hatred of his past, it was so cool to recognize how they symbolized his fight to escape from his old tendencies by making him literally carry the weight of his sins.
The ending episodes of season 2 made me weep. I’ve never been moved to tears by any media but seeing the progression of every character and them uniting as brothers made me unbelievably emotional
Thorfinn is definitely the best anime protagonist of 2023, his character is redemption and self forgiveness done right, can't wait for season 3😊
THERE'A STILL MORE STORY⁉️⁉️
@@azorkow1718 yes, i think the manga has enough chapters for a full season3. Im still not caught up the to the manga and they said it is almost finished.
I was honestly smiling with watery eyes on the final episode.
Had me laughing out loud too.
Such a great season, and story.
What’s great about Cnut’s speech commanding the waves to stop is that it was a real thing the real King Cnut once said:
When he was at the height of his ascendancy, he ordered his chair to be placed on the sea-shore as the tide was coming in. Then he said to the rising tide, "You are subject to me, as the land on which I am sitting is mine, and no one has resisted my overlordship with impunity. I command you, therefore, not to rise on to my land, nor to presume to wet the clothing or limbs of your master." But the sea came up as usual, and disrespectfully drenched the king's feet and shins. So jumping back, the king cried, "Let all the world know that the power of kings is empty and worthless, and there is no king worthy of the name save Him by whose will heaven, earth and the sea obey eternal laws."
they ended szn 2 perfectly. can’t wait for Vinland 3!
HAS SEASON 3 BEEN CONFIRMED ALREADY??
I just finished and I actually tear up the most ever watching the last 3 episodes it was so good that I was honestly fine with season 2 being the end of Vinland saga but if there’s more oh please I NEED TO SEE MORE
@@lucasmccarthy9319 there is no confirmation for s3 yet,i hope we do get s3 but ive seen a small percent who didn't understand vinland saga was never about the fights only. its likely why we got no s3 ending credits (though i really think on the bluray that would be a nice touch as s3 is going to be great whenever it will be out.)
season 3 should be out, the manga is still ongoing.
Me too. I can't wait to see Vinland at last, and Thorfinn fulfill his dreams
Vinland Saga will always hold a special place in my heart. I actually discovered the series just shortly after I moved out to Western Newfoundland back in 2019, right on the Gulf of St. Lawrence for work. You're basically in the area that Vinland was historically, as Thorfinn in the manga actually settles in Prince Edward Island to the southwest of where I was. I even visited the Viking site at L'Anse Aux Meadows on the Northern coast of the island that may have been where the historic Thorfinn Karlsefni lived while in Vinland. The first season was airing during the time that I was starting my new life there. A story about a young man being carried off to a faraway place away from all his family and friends resonated with me, because I was now in a situation where I was in a new, unfamiliar place having to fend for myself. Incidentally, the second season ended right around the time that we moved from Newfoundland over to the West Coast for work. Seeing a story about his personal transformation and finding a peaceful place to exist within the same part of the world that I was living always made me feel a personal connection to it, because it will always remind me of those wonderful years I spent in my own peaceful and quiet existence in the mountains there.
Farmland Saga has my favorite cast in anime. Every character in this season is like a cog in a machine that helps everything run smoothly. I was most surprised by Olmar and Snake, bc they turned out to be great people who were positively influenced by Thorfinn, Einar, and Sverkell.
This anime gave me so much feels. This type of genre is really for me. Great review/recap!
After finishing S1 I was left confused as to what will happen after. With Askellad gone there was simply no one likable left in the show and yes Canute was there but the show simply didn't had anyone likable. Thorfinn was this one-dimensional maniac who in no way would make a good protagonist on his own. When S2 came out I wanted to see where this story would go and how would they transform Thorfinn into something or someone at least sensible and it didn't disappoint, Thorfinn not only became a likable and deep character he also started taking the right decisions in his life and kinda had positive impacts on people around him. for example without Thorfinn Einar would have been locked in a dungeon or killed because he sometimes would go off the rails to start a fight or even kill someone. 9/10.
Great video man. Vinland Saga means a lot to me and many others. No story has made me reflect on myself and my past actions as much as this has. To me Vinland Saga is about forgiveness (being able to forgive yourself and others) and hope for a better future.
Appreciate the comment. Definitely agree with what you said and experienced the same thing with the story
goatkabe take
Literally my absolute favorite anime I’ve ever seen, the story and character growth are both absolutely incredible! I definitely cried more than once this season and it’s rare a show or movie can make me cry! 10/10 all the way!
Bro you absolutely COOKED with the editing, music and substance of this whole video.
Well, Thorfinn didn’t throw his vow, he still retains it. He had to fight in self defence. Like really, fighting most of times is bad enough, but it doesn’t mean he shouldn’t defend himself and the people that he’s protecting.
Gardar’s death in the anime is far better in the manga. I failed my crying challenge in that episode. It shows anime can improve some parts of the manga. I heard the next arc in the manga is kinda not as great as two previous seasons so i hope the anime will improve it as well.
It's really good but just not at the same level.
Not too much self-reflection or epiphany moments because it's about Thorfinn's journeys towards Vinland and meeting a lot of new important characters that will forever change his life. Personally, i love Fettered tern arc better than the prologue.
@@markgregorygacosta531s there more action I don’t think I can go another season with my man’s thorfinn getting the ghandi narrative forced on him and getting punked
It has a really heart-wrenching moment, at least for me. And it's just some nameless warriors storming a hill fort.
SPOILER
There is a scene where a warrior gets a fatal wound and ends up dying on the hill, and you see his last thoughts, he thinks, it's time for the Valkyries to take him up to Valhalla, but they aren't coming, it's just all fading in to darkness and his last thoughts are his attempt to scream to his comrades to stop fighting, there is nothing after you die, and not to throw their lives away.
I truly hope this season doesn’t go under appreciated, every anime doesn’t need action every episode and even in Vinland season 1 it wasn’t a lot for real it was just more active than what the 2nd brought to the table. But story and VA was absolutely amazing this season, I even admit I was taking back going into this season expecting Thorfinn to tirn back on his warrior mode and kill people and free himself etc but we didn’t get but instead got something more with excellent character development….and seriously bravo to the voice actors they put their all into some of those serious and emotional scenes 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
My problem with the criticism is that people are saying that he’s delusional for his views of being a pacificist and that the fighting tone down. I do kinda agree with the fighting but the thing is that this season was focusing more on the consequences of war. People dying and the decisions to be made. Also, if you think that Vinland saga has a communistic message, you’re actually delusional. At the end, just like any movie or music, we all have our likings and if y’all don’t like it that is totally cool but the creator of Vinland had a message since the beginning. We have no enemies, be the best version of yourself.
It is absolute God tier.... Thorfinn and zuko has to be one of the best redemption arcs I have ever seen....
One of the greatest seasons I've ever seen. Such a MASTERPIECE.
I'll say it and continue to say it, vinland saga s2 is anime of the year 😊
That last chapter that came out is a real game changer
As a shonen fan, It’s honestly crazy how average shonen d riders be dunkin on s2 saying it has no action.
I’m only 8 minutes in and this video is by far one of the best Vinland videos I’ve ever watched , after reading / watching Vinland it changed my life it will be in my heart for as long as I live thank you for the video
i remember in 2020 when i started reading the manga and how i just absolutely became obsessed with it, this is probably the only fictional story that has changed me as a person
there is a mistake at 7:37. that place is not valhalla, thorfinn asks askeladd directly if it is to which he responds saying that the place thorfinn is in is no different from the world of the living, and that this place is "the purest form of war".
The 100 punches scene is amazing, those last hits hit my soul too.
An amazing piece of art im not even a fan of anime but this one was one of the greatest vision i have
It’s also a very interesting thing on how u can tell my thorfin and konote hair in season 1 when thorfin had short hair and was very violent and uncompassionate and konote with very long was very compassionate and passive and then season 2 with thorfin having long hair and being very passive and at peace with himself and konote with short hair being very aggressive and not at peace with him self Ik it’s kinda weird but that’s what I think lol
this show will break you emotionally several times. then make you jump for joy when they cut down a tree
S2 is amazing but it doesnt have the same athmosphere that s1 was able to create but no other anime also has that s1 is just legendary
You didn't mention it but thorfinn saying that it'd be meaningless to fight if he's there to negotiate peace really stuck with me, it made just so much sense and it solidified his character arc in my opinion
I finally watched it after 10 months of it releasing. This easily is a top 2 season of anime I have ever seen. The entire dynamic of season 2 is everything you want. The Canute interaction, taking 100 blows to stop a war. Arnheid and Gardar. Snake. Potter. It's just perfect. Going to Barnes to get more books today! W video🙏🏾
I thought Season 1 was a masterpiece until i watched Season 2. Arnheid's scene was so devastating and heartbreaking to watch😭😭
Season 2 is on a whole nother level
This video is a masterpiece as well, great job!
Thank you for this very nicely put together video about vinland saga! Your family should be proud.
This account deserve more subs man, your edits/script is cool asf
I deserve an award for getting through season 2.
It went from quality action/story series to your grans midday soap opera.
I've never seen a show with such promise drop off so badly in their next series
Not me crying rn. Hatun allinta llank'anku. (You did excellent work!)
Beautifully made man, damn.
Great video I wish more people would make Vinland videos because I can’t find any. I wanted other big TH-camrs to talk about Thorfinn & Canute.
Don't give MAPPA the credit for this season give props to the core Vinland saga production staff
Great video. Loved this season of Vinland!
Great video but quick note:
Einar's village was not attacked by Vikings twice. The first time it was attacked by the forces of the Anglo Saxon King of England when he briefly took the crown back from Cnut.
The second time it was attacked by the forces of Cnut as they sought to reconquer England. So it was only attacked once by the Vikings.
Well technically Cnut's forces aren't Vikings because Vikings are pirates/mercenaries but you get what I mean. His village was only attacked once by Norsemen
Canute was afraid that thorfinn Might try to kill him.
13:10 Great choice of using Kanye's Runaway keys to accentuate this moment.
Love the videos man, keep it going!
Why is this the first time I'm seeing your channel, your stuff is pretty good

16:53 when that track hits, just pure sorrow enters the mind. Fantastic music choice. Fantastic summary of the season.
For me its definitely Anime of the year so far but I hope we get another show to rival it
The character development was amazing. We got to see characters who completely flipped like prince canute. And also see characters in a different light like askeladd and ketil.
Usually I am very patient about waiting for shows but I simply couldn’t wait for Vinland saga season 3 and decided to read the manga
I remember at the start of the season most people hated it
I’m 20 episodes deep and this season 2 sucks 😂
I think the first two seasons of VS are incredible just because at the moment it feels like two pure seasons of character development and background information, like in other animes they compress a characters background into one or two eps but this felt like they just said "f*ck it, lets make it super in detail". Now it feels like its the start of the anime and story as the venture of to vinland.
this is my first time seeing you and this is really an amazing video man, I know you’re not getting hundreds of thousands of views but with content of this quality you’ll definitely get there in no time at all, any true fan of anime would agree, don’t ever stop just keeping working and it’ll all pay off in the end 💪🏾

One of the best anime’s I’ve ever watched
beautiful commentary, this season was incredible
I loved seasons 1, and amounted Thorfin as just the guy that constantly screams. I loved season 2 until mid season. After that we spend half the season focused on one battle. That gets summarized into one episode and a conversation. I got to the point by episode 18, if I saw the main characters were talking, then I would just skip minutes ahead. And they would still be talking... The final episode was one I had wanted to see since season 1 started. Thorfins great return home at long long last. It was both realistic and yet a little disappointing. But I left it feeling fulfilled and happy this kid, now man, could finally find some happiness.
Also, can we all appreciate how little 3d animation was used in this and the parts with 3d animation were all masterfully done. What a stark difference between an anime like the "new" trigun and vinland. The drawing was wonderfully done in both Vinlands. Only select objects were 3d and that means it will stand the test of time.
EDIT: A small note about Aina (my poor spelling), she only had one son. But in her vision to the afterlife. We can see the husband holding a baby. Meaning that the beating did end the child she was also carrying. There was nothing left for her to care about.
love the Kayne sound overs
That use of runnaway is so amazing
great video bro
Can we say Thorfinn is Eren Yeager's antithesis?
great video!
"The child has gone b4 me" got me.😭😭. Best anime I've ever watched
Part 2 was.. I won't say boring but it's less "NOISY" than part 1, it's like a different but similar anime
I finished the series(anime) 3 days.
The enemies line was cool...because i knew about it...once I saw it😢😢😢 its my 2nd favorite scene. After "The Blade is me'
The last episode made me cry
I will say Snake getting rear naked choked and not suffering any damage pissed me off.
Dunno sry to say it, dont even need to wach the full vid cuz I know u re right and its true S2 was pure art, character development

I don't really get why the drastic change though? like they made it more emotional and deeper, but for me atleast Einar telling Thorfinn that it's because they're friends which is why he wakes him up is more wholesome
The reason why I love this change is because we see an aspect of Einar's character explored more in the anime which is him seeing that Thorfinn used to be someone just as bad as the people who took everything from him and to see Einar not only let his rage and hatred go but also tell Thorfinn why living is important was more meaningful overall but that's my opinion. Hope this answered your question
bro thıs video was so good keep it up
I appreciate it will definitely keep going
love your use of the god of war OST here
It's sad but understandable that this season has been a bit conflicted within the community. I've heard it was the same when this part of the manga released too. But it seems that most of the people genuinely enjoyed it and consider it a great arc, if not a masterpiece. And I don't wanna call people who don't appreciate the farmland arc "shonentards" or "9 year old brain" as people do, it's fine because not everyone has to enjoy the same stuff and some people just might not be into the heavy philosophical themes and nuances of the time. I personally consider Vinland as my favorite anime now just because of an impact it is having on me. I find myself to be much more calm and non-aggressive in tough situations, no I'm not creating a r/Thathappened post. I really do think this season affected me in a very positive way and I'm thankful to the manga author and the staff in-charge of the anime.

You forgot to mention that Askeladd states that this place isn't actually Valhalla or Helheim or any other afterlife and he iterates that it's actually a place much worse, it's the real world or "reality" symbolizing that even with the fantastical idea of Hell, real life is much more tragic and scary than those.
I'd also like to mention that the fact everything Askeladd is saying is just from Thorfinn's head means that this whole time, all along he knew the answers to the hard questions but his younger self just refused to listen to reason, believing that revenge and killing Askeladd will fulfill his purpose making the innocents he killed not have died in vain even though it doesn't matter, the innocent civilians are still dead for his selfish reasons eitherway.
vinland saga has a farm arc,
vagabond has a farm arc,
berserk farm arc soon?
Vinland Saga helped me get through a lot.
This was pretty much a great video!
Made me cry man I have so much hate this calmed me down
I liked the anime more than the manga farm arc.
Thorfinn started as a naive kid but and the end his decision making and thoughts were same as his father thors. Now he understands why thors left war and went to Iceland and he also said to leif he used to think why his ancestors left mainland and went to iceland was lame but now he understands it. Thorfinn wanted to become true warrior but he was not told by anyone how , but all his life experiences made him true warrior. I also liked the character of snake how he fucked up in some way and eacaped to that farm even when royal army attacked on farm he accepted it without any jesitatation despite knowing that they will never win because in his mind he knew that karma will hit him back because if you live by the sword you die by the sword. All the side characters had their own journey and devolpment and back-story , every person's decisions were based on their past experiences and what they learnt from it. There were several times einer was going to let his anger dictate his decisions but thorfinn stopped him because he knew there's no end to it and he will never find inner peace and he will just a new thorfinn which will end very badly.
Unreal use of Ramin Djawadi's Runaway and Kanye's I Wonder btw
My favourite show of all time
