Wit and Mappa really put their souls into this project and you can literally feel it every episode. I've never witnessed something that just gets consistently better and better with every iteration. At first when Gardar first showed up, i thought he was this person so full of anger and anger only. The time he saw Arnheid again and said "my wife!" i really thought he was delusional. I thought he was this abusive person. Now he's my favorite character in season 2.
Thorfinn's REUNION with his mom made me and my wife tear up..and Thorfinn hearing Askeladd "wake him up" to fight Snake..this season was a MASTERPIECE and separated the REAL FANS from the gore addicts, ELITE STORYTELLING AND CHARACTER EVOLUTION ARCS, also...Gardar's reunion with his dead son.....Jesus Christ, and to me my personal favorite....Thorfinn's nightmare reunion with Thors and Askeladd is one of Animes best arc moments in HISTORY, askeladd's last "THORFINN!!" .....
You are absolutely right. As my friend and I were watching it at roughly the same time, he despised the second season just because it was lacking EXTRA FIGHTS, MOTION and gore bullshit. While I experienced the greatest storytelling and emotions in my life. I`m truly convinced that there is no better anime than this one for me personally.
when i first watched this it baffled me how many people were hating on the second season cus as amazing and entertaining the fights in the first season were the story and thorfinns character arc is so incredibley written and animated the fights dont even compare. i imagine the same people who hate it only watch op mc anime cus they clearly dont have good taste

I am Japanese. I've been watching Japanese animation for 50 years. This is a masterpiece of Japanese animation. I'm grade to watch this with original language.
Episode 9 definitively is a masterpiece with his own confrontation and seeing akkselad on his visions because his words at season 1 finale were also a before and after on Thorfinns psique. Also i really liked the episode where Thorfinn tells Einar he is actually his friend making him consider that probably is his first friend since his father dead and also the evolution of these 2 friendship to the point of calling brother themeselves at the end of the season. I just loved season 2
Its a cliche for a shonen anime where protagonist will motivate to be strongest person when it comes to fighting but vinland is so unique thorfinn teach us to be better stronger person not from fighting or combat be a stronger person from within❤
Ummm, shonen is about having strong soul too. In Vinland Saga it was just especially pointed out and the storytelling is amazing. Vinland has enough cliches in manga too, unfortunately. But it's still a great story.
The one of the best things in Vinland Saga Season 2 is that they have put an idea over the money , because they have lost tons of viewers who was watching the anime for hardcore fighting scenes only. Respect to the stuff and directory!
my buddy and I watched this whole series together and we both fell in love with season one, then we watched season two as it came out and he never really liked it but I LOVED it. He kept mentioning that he wanted thorfinn to finally show how badass he is but I kept insisting that his restraint from doing so was much more interesting. Having so much skill and ability to kill is awe inspiring and entertaining, but the way in which thorfinn chooses what to do with his skill and power was way more captivating than anything he could've done with what he had. I think season one was amazing, but season two was thought provoking in a way that outshines most other anime of the genre.

The last episode was A MASTERPIECE!!!!! I cried like a baby since thorfinn reunited with his mom, and then when thorfinn was side by side with his dad and his own younger little version... that made me cry just like no other film or series or whatever (except for Titanic, that was HUGE). I called my boyfriend while tearing up so hard, I could not believe Vinland Saga was done and finished. Just a masterpiece on it's own meaning! Legendary!

They can really keep this anime going like a bloodline generation all the way up to a Persian or Egyptian timeline by keeping the same scenarios through out war in history how a kid becomes a soldier of war by emotions then battling his inner demons
I find the translation interesting for moment 10. When I watched the anime, the line was "Never have I once been glad to be alive" That hits harder tbh
Let me say this the fights in s2 (ie 100 punches and snake vs thorfin) wouldn't have hit nearly as hard as they do if the series was just nonstop action. In these fights its no longer about needless violence we see a new man, a man with a reason to fight, not for others but for defending those around him. It doesn't matter how much pain he has to go through it only matters that those around him are safe. Thorfin is a changed man as we see through the small amounts of action in the series and that makes those bits of action 100% better to watch as the viewer.

The WHOLE point of this season was to redeem Thorfinn who had been an angsty edge lord killing machine, he HAD to suffer EQUAL to the suffering he caused, it HAD to be brutal and drawn out otherwise it wouldn't be earned. And then you get these dumbass lists where people put the 'I have no enemies' moment as the peak moment, but then their 2nd favourite moment is just a GOD DAMN FIGHT SCENE... Ffs.
Thorkell is probably one of the funniest chars tbh, dude annihilates two of the king's main guards and hits the king and casually swims away like nothing lmaoo

Askeladd said something about vikings lacking any beauty. At the peace talks, Canute remarks that he's surprised such a beautiful man can be from the vikings.
In the fight against Snake, Thorffin would've killed him if he had his knives. Its insane the speed he has that Snake barely dodge his punches now imagine him with the knives. I would like to see something like that.

This season is one of the best and also one of the worst, cause the love i had for season 1 was not there, the action and the ruthlessness was gone. as a standalone i would have loved season 2 but as a continuation its a disappointment to take a different tangent all together
That was the point of the show tho. Season one should display the war and the horrors it brings with it. Season 2 is how he overcomes it. But I get that people who think this is a Acton fighting anime got baited.

That was the point of the show tho. Season one should display the war and the horrors it brings with it. Season 2 is how he overcomes it. But I get that people who think this is a Acton fighting anime got baited.
@@patrickjung7812 yeah I get that, which is why the first few episodes of S2 are what I loved but after 5 episodes it got boring, and this is coming from someone who went throught the manga as well. I wanted to see the old ruthlessness in few fights, other than the snake fight there was nothing. And the coming season will be the same. I think as a managa it's fun to read but as a anime we need moments that make us remember the anime, but there was none
