I'm reading the books for the first time. I just finished The Order of the Pheonix and was highly upset that the movies had left out the ending where Lupin, Tonks, Moody, and the Weasleys confront the Dursleys. I could picture it so vividly in my mind as if it HAD been in the movies.
As an adult who has since experienced the death of both parents, and the slow decline in health of one of them over a prolonged period, the scene with Neville's parents in the Special Care award kind of breaks me apart now whenever I read it.
I'm looking forward to the bits about Winky and her part in the Crouch family's dark secrets; and Fred and George's feud with Ludo Baghorn, which shows them in a different light to what we see in the films. Then there's Hermione's revenge on Rita Skeeter, the memories Dumbledore shares with Harry in HBP (Tom Riddle's sinister work for Borgin & Burke's, the Gaunt family, Riddle's request to work at Hogwarts). There's so much great material we will hopefully see on screen at last.
i don’t really think that they should add this stuff back into any new hp content like the show, cause causal fans or those who didn’t read the books and just the movies/show (which is unfortunately a lot of ppl) will think the show just made new content and not that this stuff is canon and original
Thank you for providing such great content this year! You do a great job at keeping the spirit of the franchise alive! Looking forward to your uploads next year. Take care and have a very happy new year 🎉
I do love how so many of these are from the fifth book, my favorite. That was, in my opinion, the worst movie, but it is my favorite. They had to cut sooooo much stuff to make it a then-standard-length movie. Nowadays, we probably would have been absolutely treated to a 3.5 hour movie with a lot of these plot points included.
You missed Dumbledores visit to the Dursley's at the start of Half-blood Prince. I always hated the way the film opened. Voldemorts at large and Harry is riding around on muggle trains. It makes no sense. Where does Harry get the muggle money from to ride all of these trains and why is he allowed to wander around full stop. At this point of the books he has the highest security that the ministry can give him. I would love to know what the director thought he was doing.
Wizard money and muggle money can be exchanged at Gringotts. And given how many methods of magical transport are available, most witches and wizards probably avoid muggle public transport. I'd say it'd be pretty safe for Harry to travel on those trains.
Let's also point out that the relationship build up between Harry and Sirius didn't really get much attention in the films so his death didn't feel as impactful if you hadn't ready the books. Also perfect timing as I had just finished my bi-annual re-watch of the movies. 😁
Great video but Aunt Petunia's Howler needs a little more context, The reason she received it was that the Dursleys were on the point of throwing Harry out, blaming him for what had just happened with Dudley. Dumbledore was reminding her seriously that she is responsible for Harry, being his only real link to his mother, no matter how badly she has been treating him... He cannot, not call privet drive his home until his 17th birthday or he will lose his mothers protective magic.
I'm reading Harry Potter for the first time. And I'm already on The Order Of The Phoenix. I haven’t gotten the part where Dumbledore explains why Harry must continue to with his Aunt and Uncle despite their abuse and nrglect of Harry or he would lose his mother's protection. But that totally makes since. By the way which book does Dumbledore explain this to Harry?

Both battles of Hogwarts were ruined including no kreature shouting fight fight fight for my master and obviously how bad the final showdown was portrayed. Funny how it relate to the story with the two way mirror. Harry forgot he had the mirror because he didn't find it useful and thus did not contact Sirius to see if he was alive and well and remember he had it to late, when Sirius died to protect him. Had he just use the mirror, Sirius would probably still be alive. And in reality, directors forgot about the mirror, thinking it wasn't useful and had to introduce it later in the story when it was too late 😂

Exactly. People who compare books to movies and expect an exact visual representation of EVERYTHING in the books severely underestimate just how different those two media are! Movies have surprisingly little time to explain every little plot point and every piece of character development and world building (and would be boring as hell if they gave a detailed explanation to everything) and can often only give subtle hints to important things instead, whereas books have loads of space to get lost in details and side-notes, at the risk of drifting off into unimportant ramblings.
