There’s no words that can describe the magical feeling that fills your soul when you ride a Harley Davidson. I’ve owned and ridden a ton of bikes and I keep coming back to the only one that soothes the soul: Harley Davidson. Thanks for the video brother.

I think it is, in part, because a Harley gives a person the true raw feeling of riding a motorcycle. You feel the heat of the engine (especially if stuck in slow traffic on a hot day) that tells you that this is an engine, not electric or even an engine hidden behind water and a radiator. It's raw and exposed. You see it fully in view and exposed including the oil tank, push rod sleeves, cooling fins, etc. As a result you become hyper aware of how the bike is running and thus become part of the bike. You just can't do that on a Goldwing.

It must be hard to run a company like Harley. If they modernize the engines their customers complain that they've lost their character or are too hard to customize and work on. If they don't modernize people complain about obsolete tech. If they source overseas they complain that Harleys are not American anymore but if they build in America people complain that they're too expensive.
I certainly agree that Harley needs to build smaller, less expensive starter bikes. If they don't, they will just become a boutique bike.

I owned a Harley for over 20 years and two Honda before. The problem is that hardly are just too expensive for young people who have student loans and have to get a car and insurance and pay the high cost of rent to even think of buying an unnecessary toy like a motorcycle!Plus let’s not kid ourselves with all the distractions that car drivers are doing when talking on their phones, eating, texting, just not paying attention to their surroundings, puts motorcycles riders in great danger!! I luckily went to to a union job right after my 4 years in army .Where I bought a house at 1-1/2 times what I made in a year. Now home are about 3-4 times the average median salary! You can barely afford to take your family on vacation in this economy!

Harley-Davidson made an enormous mistake when they discontinued the real Sportster. That was the one Harley that was worth the price tag.
The bigger M8 bikes are way too overpriced and as far as I'm concerned the RevMax engine looks more like shit and sounds more like shit than a Honda.

Good, fair, and balanced thoughts on Harley. Personally, Harleys have linited appeal to me because of the type of ridng I like to do, and that I like a lighter, more responsive style of bike. Although high performance is fun, having the ultimate weapon of speed has never been a criteria for me. Which is why I really like to see bikes like Harley which emphasize real world power, and all the reasons you enjoy about owning and riding one, because that makes sense for most riders.
BTW, I am not insinuating HDs are low performance, because having ridden one of the new 117 CID models, it's a really strong performer.
I guess my only other comment is I can't justify the prices when I have been super pleased with my relatively inexpensive Japanese bikes over the years, which affects many others similarly.
The only thing I can really criticize Harley for is it's lack of models for new riders ( which is a complaint I have had about ALL manufacturers for many years) as they chased the more affluent, experienced riders. I am also of the opinion starting on the smallest, lightest machine possible, and moving up as your skills develop builds rider confidence that stays with you for a lifetime. And I believe the shrinking of the market is to a significant degree the result of industry neglect.
And now the chickens are coming home to roost.

I think the edge that's going away is the old evolution engine with carbs, i have 96 softail custom and 05 twin cam softail. The reason I have these is the sound and the ease for me to repair em, the evo has a distinct sound and the newer models just can't sound as nice, the main problem is the newer models require dealership support as sensors abound. The older models are nice. But come with challenges, newer models have nice improvements but unfortunately quality is hitcand miss, for harley davidson to thrive they need to support all Harleys

Well said, I totally share your opinion, it's sad to see today that there are people who only criticize in a non-constructive way for the pleasure of destroying whether out of jealousy, frustration or any other reason and surely to put themselves forward in a certain way and we will always find people who hate Harley Davidson, but undoubtedly they have not felt and understood the emotion that these machines can provide as you say so well and all the community they generated and which surrounds them. I ride bikes since more than 45 years and Harleys since 15 years now and will never go back to another brand, it's part of my life now.

You are absolutely correct about the sound and feel factor of a Harley. I love my Harley 2003 Fatboy for the feel of it, intrinsically as well as physically. I love my Iron 883 2017 however the corporate mindset is killing Harley, gone are the family owned and operated businesses, they stopped the Sportsters the Dyna now the Rev max is a good engine but it’s way too expensive for a bike that has more plastic and a small petrol tank under the seat

I think Harley is on pricing point with Indian, Honda and BMW and others for the same type of bike...and yes they are all expensive. The top of the line sportbikes are in the low and mid 30's here in Canada as well. I see many younger guys and ladies here in Southern Ontario buying new Harley's...maybe it's a regional thing...not sure.

All the criticism of Harley is the same old, same old. People have been saying they're old man bikes and too expensive and too loud and too slow and the guys who ride them are big, scary meanies ever since the forties. There is certainly some valid criticism of the company, the main one being they need to get rid of the CEO from the tennis shoe company. He has no feel for Harley or motorcycles in general.

When you walk into a Harley dealership the selection is - big bikes.
Yes you have the 2 Sportster models but who do these machines appeal to?
I go back to the days when you walked into a Harley dealership and had a big selection, that is the typical lineup and the models of Harley branded Aermacchi motorcycles dirt bikes, dual purpose bikes and the 2 Sprint models street and scrambler versions.
For decades starting in the 50's you had the option of smaller bikes such as the HUMMER, the M50 and the XL Sportster.
    That lineup increased in the 60's with the Aermacchi models;
    The Topper
    The Sprints - 250cc then 350cc.
    The Ala Rossa 175 cc.
    The Ala Verde 250 cc.
    The Leggero 65 cc.
    The C Sprint 250cc.
    The Brezza SC-150 cc.
The Rapido Model ML 125 cc.
    The MSR-100 Baja 100 cc.
    The AMF Harley-Davidson SX-350 cc.
    The MC-65 Shortster.
    The SR 100.
    The X-90 and Z-90 models.
    The TX 125.
    The SXT 125 models.
    The SX 250.
    The SST 350.
    And many scooters.
    Who bought those bikes?
Youngsters mostly ( well purchased by their parents )
I had a Rapido 125cc in 1971 when I was 13. I was thrilled to have a bike that displayed Harley Davidson on the tank.
AMF did away with the Aermacchi brand just at the time they were building a liquid cooled 2 stroke engine.
There was also a V-4 Harley experimental machine in the early 70's.
When you mention younger riders I can't help but think that they're not looking for big bikes when they walk into a Harleydealership. And why would they go there anyway- there's nothing there for them.
Dirt bikes, dual purpose bikes and adventure bikes are popular these days.
When you think back to the 60's and early 70's Harley Davidson offered a variety of machines for young riders AND aging riders you could say who still had the option of riding a Harley branded bike like the 250 and 350 Sprint.
When the Pan American was introduced to the public in 2018 and was finally launched in 2021 there were rumors Harley would bring a smaller version of that adventure bike using the new liquid-cooled, V-Twin Revolution® Max 975T. It never happened.
I'm a 66 year old disabled veteran. I was always loyal to the brand and simply put I guess you could say yearning for the days of old when you walked into a Harley dealership and actually had a choice.
The smaller version Pan America never came so recently I purchased a 2024 Kawasaki klr 650.
I still ride my 2007 Ultra Classic but not as often.
What are the choices offered by Harley for youngsters and oldsters AND women of all ages?
Royal Enfield is doing now, with choices - many of them what Harley used to do.

    BEIRUT VETERAN DISABLED

That said, some of these metric fanboys just bash Harley for some quick clicks and views. They don’t get that we buy Harleys because we want a different experience. If we are paying a bit more for the experience we want, that’s up to us. Harleys are actually competitively priced to many comparable bikes from other companies. And try riding that Bonnie cross country as you point out. Can it be done? Sure. It it going to be a great experience? Probably not.

April 2024, still with FHDSH and with just 17,343 miles I had to have a complete engine rebuild due to the camshaft picking up and excessive engine wear caused by the known problem apparently (isn't hindsight and the internet forums wonderful) by Harley Davidson with early 107s of oil pump cavitation and poor oil pump feed and scavenging.
These oil pumps were replaced on 2019 models due to their piss poor performance - SO WHY NO RECALL?
Requested contribution to repair from Harley Davidson UK - 😂😂
Dealer stated that they have done likewise repairs over the last 4-5 years on 1-2 bikes per year.
This was my fourth and last Harley Davidson - F&&k HD

You live in a crowded city sure zip around on a smaller bike or a crotch rocket, but you are not really doing any kind of long distance riding. The people that I know that have those kind of bikes, wheelie, zip in and out of traffic and love city riding and race to the next stop light.

His point of view is typical of his age bracket (more or less). Harley should take what he says as a wake-up call. Harley won't last 15 more years if they rely on the 'ol boys' to keep buying bikes. A lot of HD enthusiasts are aging out of riding tbh Being just over 50 now and having 4 v-twin cruisers and touring bikes, I am on the bottom end of the HD ol boys club. I see in my circles there are about 3 guys aging out of riding HD's for every 1 that comes into it, not including guys who crash out and can't ride again. yammie sums it up here - th-cam.com/video/cEQKMkgQ19o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UhFFRZCrVJ5mEKjZ&t=561 . Riding a Road Glide for your first bike is like having a Corvette for your first car. It’s possible, but there are a lot of things you need to work on. There are thousands of older Harleys available under $10,000. Harley’s largest mistake was eliminating the Dyna line. That was the line of bikes a moderately new rider loved. It was “bigger” than a Sportster, but not too big for newer riders. Yammie is just a H-D hater. He gets clicks by bashing them. There is no other brand of motorcycle that is so well supported Worldwide. So Yammie can be a hater all he likes. I will keep putting 15,000 to 20,000 miles a year on my Road Glide or Ultra Limited. 500 Triumphs / Hondas / Yamahas going down the road do not elicit the same emotional response as 500 Harleys.

But if you have Japanese and Italian or German bike bmw you know as everybody knows they will pass you by while they sleep its just reality.

When I was young, I could buy a Harley for $100. Right now, I can see over 1,000 Harley's for sale. Many with less than 5000 miles. Many for sale with a asking price over $12K. There are guys out there that bid on 100s of them, offering 1/2 of the asking price. Successfully.
    Never pay more than 1/2.
Of course, with guys signing up for 84 months of payments, many are so underwater, they're screwed.

Yammies a sport bike guy. So like most riders like that, harleys are looked at theough a performance per dollar lens. For what they cost. Harley's perform pretty badly. Weight definitely affects performance. Idk why most Harley riders dismiss this or think its just about maneuvering in a parking lot. Weight affects performance negatively.. And of coarse, the revmax bikes that remedy alot of the short comings in performance are hated by the Harley usuals.

    • @mrpoizun
      @mrpoizun วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Harleys perform great! They have tons of torque and easily out-perform most cars on the road and still get great fuel mileage for a big bike. They are not meant to be racing bikes.

    • @super16g123
      @super16g123 วันที่ผ่านมา

@mrpoizun that's not really the point my friend. Every bike just about out performs most cars on the road. When compared to other motorcycles, however, thats usually a different story.
I have only ridden Harley's and both bikes I've ever owned were Harley's. So I understand what you mean. I understand what yammienoob is saying as well. The strange thing to me is when one can't at all relate to the other.
Seems to me that Harley people are like truck people lol. Want something big and tall, heavy so they feel safe and are isolated from the road etc. and sport bike guys are like sports car people. Wanting something light. Responsive, with good power to weight. feeling connected to the road etc. raptors are awesome and sporty as long as they're compared to other trucks. But as soon as they're compared to something like a sports car, you see it's just a big heavy comfy truck that has more power than most.
I just wish Harley ALSO made bikes that appeal to sports car guys.
You say they're not supposed to be race bikes. But neither are any of the current middleweight naked bikes that you can pick up now around 10k. Hell an mto7 is just a standard motorcycle that'd probably beat most of the bikes in Harley's lineup and it's only around 9k to get into. Takes alot to look past that for people on that side of the fence.

Hey mate. Yeah, YN, like all responsible media, runs with anecdotes, plays with generalizations, and otherwise does it for the clicks. Overbranding? See KISS. Price? Yeah, and Honda also makes outstanding, overpriced, top-heavy roto-tillers. Airstream trailers are supposed to the finest in the world, 4-6 times the price of modern box trailers. Bought a new 14', and it was a big aluminum steaming pile (EDIT: Airstream did basically remanufacture it, on their nickel, at the Ohio assembly plant service facility, and it's been trouble-free since 15'). But anyways, his line on Motor is the same old, worn-out schtick.

Not making the Bronx was a huge mistake. It would also be nice to make a Pan America with 975 engine. I rode Harley‘s my whole life. They’re beautiful motorcycles but something‘s gotta change or Harley‘s gonna be in trouble. Plus I’ve had nothing but problems buying from a dealership. The markup is over ridiculous in some places even today in a down market.

@ when I first saw the Bronx concept I was sold. I just hope they’re not gonna do what I think they’re gonna do and that is create a sportster with a 1250 engine with the Bronx name. I guess we’re gonna have to wait and see. In my humble opinion, Harley should’ve marketed the pan America more. It was a huge selling motorcycle when it came out. They should’ve followed it up with a smaller lighter Pan American with the 975 engine. They should produce a street fighter Bronx and a lower level sportster line for introductory riders. They need to bring back the Fat Bob with a 117 engine. Their 25th anniversary Fat Boy needs to be perfect. They’re touring line needs to be sold at base or fully loaded, but they should sell packages that way it brings the initial cost down and you can add the packages overtime. Since the CEO and the board of directors destroyed the used value market of the Harley. They need to start a guaranteed buyback program, meaning they guarantee after so many years that your trade value will be a certain percentage based on mileage and condition. The final thing that needs to be done the CEO needs to move on and the Board of Directors needs to be shaken up.

HD has forgotten the customers that helped them become what they are. They no longer support the vets and their is not such thing as an entry level bikes to get new customers. They also have never seemed to be able to operate as well managed business and only survived with government assistance and buyouts. Then their is the betrayal of moving manufacturing to Asia. I would love to support HD as a North American brand and manufacture but I just can't justify paying the price tag for an unreliable bike. I can p[ay 1/4 the price and get a Japanese bike that does everything and more than would an HD could even dream of doing. You choose Japanese because in the motorcycle world they are bulletproof and reliable. You say its about the feeling but is the feeling really worth extra $5000-$10000 that you will never get back. In Canada the cheapest bike you can get is around $20,000 and that is with 30,000-60,000 km on it. You may find something for $10,000 but it will have over 80,000 km on it and you will need to put another $6000+ to rebuild the engine.
