    Here is a little insight into how I achieve the backgrounds for my mixed media work. Here you see me creating texture and adding pattern and depth. I then complete the canvas by making and adding heart shapes which have been cut out using left over background papers.
    Thanks for watching. ♥

It is a massive learning curve though and hopefully my presentation will improve as I make more videos. Thanks again! Have a great day. ♡

    OMG! I love this so much! I have been stuck on backgrounds, with lots of failed experiments. As a scientist, I understand failures can provide a lot of information, but they don't do anything for moral.

      Thank you so much, so pleased you enjoyed watching! Yes, sometimes the more knowledge about how things work or should work the more complicated it is! With art the best thing is to just relax and see what happens, so many wonderful things discovered by experimentation.

    Really nice! As this was my first video of yours and I'm not sure if you do this with other videos, it would have been helpful if you had listed the products that you used in subtitles. And at the end, I was waiting to see what you used to glue the hearts and letters down with, because it looked as if you may have added outline color to the letters. Just ideas. I'm really glad that you shared this technique with us, so thank you!

    Wonderful background but do wish you would let us know what type of material you are using such as is that white paint or gesso? What's in the bowl you are putting on with your fingers? On the very first layer why roll then paint over with brush - is there something it's doing the camera doesn't pick up very well? The depth is great and enjoyed watching but would like just a bit more info.

    • @AliImperialeMixedMediaArtist
      @AliImperialeMixedMediaArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mary Louise, you are absolutely right I need to add much more detail.. I'm on a bit of a learning curve, learning as I go so will definitely take your comments on board. It's white paint that I'm using I don't use any gesso in this one. I put my paint on a paper plate (bowl) as I find this the most efficient way for me to work and then paint with my fingers. I roll first and then brush over as the rolling didn't give the coverage that I needed. I never really know where I'm going when I start, I have a vague idea of where I want to go with a piece and then I just begin so a piece may change many times before I'm happy with it but I feel each layer adds texture, depth and interest. I can imagine watching can be a little confusing when I look like I'm heading in one direction and then I change but I paint from my heart and trust the process and just keep going until I'm happy with the final piece. I hope you enjoy watching and can pick up a few tips on the way.

    • @AliImperialeMixedMediaArtist
      @AliImperialeMixedMediaArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, I didn't use white gesso to prepare the surface but I did use an already gesso primed canvas which you can get hold of quite cheaply from Amazon etc. I use a variety of different surfaces for my work, sometimes primed, sometimes not.. sometimes I stick down patterned papers which provide a base to work on and yes sometimes I just go straight in with acrylic paint.. just make sure your base substrate is strong enough to hold several layers of paint. Enjoy!
