this movie was so much more nuance and beautiful than the rating given to it because the men who rated it simply did not understand the theme of navigating childhood trauma, grief, abandonment and girlhood
Was just thinking about this. You see it in every movie where the main character is a girl honestly. Even Tarantino films get this treatment lol. This movie is so overlooked
@@purplemist7even if it is its a shame people still come at others for simple spelling errors. like the call is coming from inside of the house if its a problem to you
@madelineanabella6400 I think she was sick with the flu and it went to her lungs and she accidentally overdosed. It's very odd because her husband died similarly
I really think the saddest part of this movie WAS getting Ray almost excited to ride the teacups, and watching her take public transport, and mastering a bite of the hot dog; and then they get there and it's complete disappointment that the park is closed... That hurt me, and reminded me of my own childhood disappointments. Now as a mom, I warn my kids never to expect that things will go perfect. It's heartbreaking when your children are disappointed.
Yep but I think they put that in there because that's what happens in reality sometimes and it's a time to teach them how to handle sadness in a healthy way
same goes to when molly promised that ray's dad will last longer...molly shouldve not be so sure and make it clear it cant be for certain but theres a big chance. otherwise, i love molly and ray together. seems like they healed each other
Now as an adult I see it differently. Not only that point that things don’t always work out. But also showing that Britney Murphys character is not acting like an adult who would maybe plan out going etc
Yes. Same here- always have a plan B ready. Funny, I'm from NYC, so when I saw this the first thing I thought was - the Aquarium is right next door they could just go there! 😂
I think another thing is that Ray experienced so many false promises from her mom. When you do that to a child, it messes with your trust in other people. So when she finally trusted someone with something she absolutely would never do, it just reaffirmed that Ray can’t trust anyone. We know this isn’t true and the movie used this as a good opportunity to show that just because one bad thing happens, it doesn’t mean you should generalize it- especially after trauma.
The way that Ray acts in the beginning is a spitting image of her mother, because she wants her mothers approval, attention and validation. It's actually quite sad, especially the Fruit Punch scene -- you could totally see her judgemental and pretentious mom saying that to her, and Ray is just regurgitating that sentiment she was told to Molly.
Britney Murphy. What a star that had so much to give, and talent. She would have been a movie star I’m sure, she was funny and also did dramatic well. Love this movie x
@@sincerelyjessicaavery lol she was definitely a movie star… wonder if commenter just wasn’t around at the time. Brittany Murphy had already been in several big films (8-mile??
