As a fan of the Pixies, one of the most evocative qualities of the arrangements involved Kim Deal's harmonies, bass-lines, & songwriting. Her contributions are invaluable.
Rustle The Musical Gorilla. Definitely were underrated in the 60's were music charts dominated mostly by Beatles sometimes stones, bob Dylan and whatever song that is peace and love
Marianne Dalida They weren’t on the same level of popularity as the Beatles or The Rolling Stones, but anybody who knows music knows the Velvet Underground.
IF MAN IS 5, if man is 5, if man is 5, then the devil is 6, the devil is 6, the devil is 6, AND IF THE DEVIL IS 6, THEN GOD IS SEVEN! GOD IS SEVEN! GOD IS SEVEN!
This video had me revisit Doolittle after hearing it a few months ago and thinking it was okay. After giving it another chance it's now one of my all time favorites
Elated when I saw this uploaded. Great series. Keep up the great work. Albums I hope to see: Stankonia - Outkast Enter the Wu Tang - Wu Tang Clan Pinkerton - Weezer Demon Days - Gorillaz Ready to Die - Biggie Smalls Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement Let it Bleed - Rolling Stones Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys
Outkast-Aquemini Fleet Foxes-Fleet Foxes Magnetic Fields-69 love songs Wolf Parade-Apologies to Queen Mary Miles Davis-Bitches Brew Dusty Springfield-Dusty in Memphis Would all be interesting
The album that got me hooked. I saw live footage of the group and an interview in '89 and it became my bus ride album to high school. Still can't believe it wasn't as popular then as it became later. And "Debaser" is genius!
You cannot resume Doolittle in only 5 minutes. You left half the songs out (Mr Grieves, Tame, Dead, N°13 Baby, Gouge Away, etc..) and could get in more detail about the album's production. Do a part 2!
This album lives in my car's sound system. If there were any justice in the world this would be regarded as one of the best alt rock albums of all time.
First Pixies album I listened too. My father had the record a 45Rmp and I wasn't sure how a turntable worked so I listened to it at 33 and thougt yhat the pixies were a really fucked up band.
What, the album was supposed to be played at 45? That's bull. All albums on vinyl play at 33. The only exception I know is Lush's _Spooky_ , which originally came on two 10 inch 45 rpm discs.
Nah, if they're gonna do a vid about King Crimson it'll be their debut, just because it's their best received and most influential album. Or *maybe* Red, they gave that a 9 in a retro review recently.
I dunno man, from my experience they are more partial to doing those weird, second-rated albums of an artist than their critical darling, and Discipline sounds like the perfect oddball for that occasion.
0:15 I would call Come On Pilgrim the Pixies' first album, not Doolittle. 1:16 Doolittle was not recorded in one day! I guess this 'fact' is from Wikipedia, which says "nearly a song a day'.
Bought this record in Bergen, Norway whilst on exchange from Cape Town, South Africa. Got to see them in Cape Town earlier this year. Opened with Gouge Away. It was perfect.
I'd like to see: Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West Arcade Fire - Funeral or Neon Bible Animal Collective - Feels Wu Tang - 36 Chambers Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
It's Pixies without the definite article. Come On Pilgrim was their first release. REM were hardly "overly earnest", at least in those days. And the last two albums came out twenty years later and can't be considered to have been part of their influence and legacy. Pitchfork should know better.
Do some metal albums pls? Alice in Chains: Dirt, Tripod Possesed: 7 Churches Morbid Angel: Covenenant Celtic Frost: To Mega Therion Judas Priest: Painkiller Bathory: Blood, Fire, Death Neurosis: Through Silver and Blood Godflesh: Streetcleaner
Come on Pitchfork! Reviewing "Doolittle" without a single reference to the Gun Club and Jeffrey Lee Pierce?! His solo album "Wildweed" was the blueprint for the Doolittle-sound: th-cam.com/video/YVtyfPwjGjY/w-d-xo.htmlm19s
As a fan of the Pixies, one of the most evocative qualities of the arrangements involved Kim Deal's harmonies, bass-lines, & songwriting. Her contributions are invaluable.
Pixies had huge influence in indie scene just like velvet underground both bands were underrated at their era
David Bowie said the exact same thing about the Pixies.
TheSubwizzle yes and radiohead are pixies fan as well
I love Velvet Underground, but I don’t think they’re underrated.
Rustle The Musical Gorilla. Definitely were underrated in the 60's were music charts dominated mostly by Beatles sometimes stones, bob Dylan and whatever song that is peace and love

quote any line from Black Francis in all caps and its genius
Best lyric ever.
always look forward to this part and screaming along
hell yeah
Nice QOTSA picture
This album got me to view alt rock in a whole new way. Doolittle is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I say that with pride.
I what way did you view 'alt rock'?
Light-hearted indie pop, stuff mustachioed hipsters would listen to on vinyl while twiddling their beards on /mu/
I can’t even understand why I love it so much
its been five years, i lost my shift key, and i still love doolittle
"Big black frontman, Steve Albini"
Amazing album. Hey is one of my favourite songs ever.
Same
This video had me revisit Doolittle after hearing it a few months ago and thinking it was okay. After giving it another chance it's now one of my all time favorites
This album is still ahead of the curve somehow
Stone Roses - Debut Album
Smashing Pumpkins- Mellon Collie And The Infintie Sadness
Cool to see a liner notes on this. Truly one of the best records of all time.
I bought a bass just to play "Hey"
GOT ME A MOVIE, AUGHAHAHAAAUGH
4:29 Look, he's wearing a They Might be Giants' 'Flood' shirt
Power, Corruption, and Lies - New Order
Different Class - Pulp
Dog Man Star - Suede
Would love to see any of these
I get the chills whenever I hear this album
Elated when I saw this uploaded. Great series. Keep up the great work.
Albums I hope to see:
Stankonia - Outkast
Enter the Wu Tang - Wu Tang Clan
Pinkerton - Weezer
Demon Days - Gorillaz
Ready to Die - Biggie Smalls
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement
Let it Bleed - Rolling Stones
Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys
Not a single word about "Tame"?
Outkast-Aquemini
Fleet Foxes-Fleet Foxes
Magnetic Fields-69 love songs
Wolf Parade-Apologies to Queen Mary
Miles Davis-Bitches Brew
Dusty Springfield-Dusty in Memphis
Would all be interesting
Brady Broderick Yas, Brady, yassss...
Gee, such a hip list....
I would like them to do Emperor's _Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk_ .
Go for it then buddy
Aquemini. Yes
Apologies to the queen Mary would be rad. Especially since Issas Brock produced it. And their work with Arcade Fire. Good choices.
The album that got me hooked. I saw live footage of the group and an interview in '89 and it became my bus ride album to high school. Still can't believe it wasn't as popular then as it became later.
And "Debaser" is genius!
Siamese Dream or Kid A pls
You cannot resume Doolittle in only 5 minutes. You left half the songs out (Mr Grieves, Tame, Dead, N°13 Baby, Gouge Away, etc..) and could get in more detail about the album's production. Do a part 2!
Tens TODA a razão Pedro!
hard to believe it was dropped in the 80s. their best record
Hell yes. This is my favorite album of all time, thank you!
I have to listen to certain “perfect” albums all the way through, or not at all - this is one of those albums. 💕🏆💕🏆💕
Greatest alternative rock record of all time.
Best liner notes to date! Fav series on youtube
I mean... Weren’t they incorrect about the Pixies having 6 albums though? Those last two albums aren’t what has defined them through all these years
This album lives in my car's sound system. If there were any justice in the world this would be regarded as one of the best alt rock albums of all time.
Ummm pretty sure it is
There is justice in the world, don't worry my child hope is not lost in fact I see the sun rising on this new year like never before
It is regarded as such
If Kurt Cobain hadn't have been so pretty, the Pixies would have conquered the world.
Nah, Kurt just had this 'John Lennon' thing going on. Pixies are more Macca in comparison
@@chaoticnique9748 hes saying that cus neverminds whole vibe was based on what kurt called the pixies method. Loud quiet loud
@@chaoticnique9748 hell no, if anyone pixies are george harrison
And the funny thing is that none of them wanted to conquer the world
Ha ... makes perfect sense.
doolittle é um dos melhores álbuns já feitos.
Doolittle is still one of my favourite albums
People couldn’t appreciate the greatness of the Pixies until Pitchfork told us that we should.
🤣
You make such good choices on albums to cover! I love your channel!
I love this album
First Pixies album I listened too. My father had the record a 45Rmp and I wasn't sure how a turntable worked so I listened to it at 33 and thougt yhat the pixies were a really fucked up band.

Joey is my favorite guitar player ever
from the very title of your video, i can tell you are a genius.
One of the albums that got me into indie rock back in the day. Classic album!
pavement next
King Crimson's Discipline PLEASE!
This please. It's very rare to see a band turn a 180, and yet _still be this good_
Nah, if they're gonna do a vid about King Crimson it'll be their debut, just because it's their best received and most influential album. Or *maybe* Red, they gave that a 9 in a retro review recently.
I dunno man, from my experience they are more partial to doing those weird, second-rated albums of an artist than their critical darling, and Discipline sounds like the perfect oddball for that occasion.
SEGAClownboss If that's the case, I'd have thought the obvious choice for their second rated album would be Larks' Tongues.
0:15 I would call Come On Pilgrim the Pixies' first album, not Doolittle.
1:16 Doolittle was not recorded in one day! I guess this 'fact' is from Wikipedia, which says "nearly a song a day'.
Emergency & I and Pinkerton deserve a liner notes
Plus either of big blacks studio albums
Definitely Pinkerton
Bought this record in Bergen, Norway whilst on exchange from Cape Town, South Africa. Got to see them in Cape Town earlier this year. Opened with Gouge Away. It was perfect.
dinosaur jr. next please
Ab Aziz y'all living all over me !!
THEY MAE IT!
Best album ever
You're so right!
My favorite album 🙌🏼
luv this video
One of the best albums if the 80s
Would the best if U2 and The Smiths weren't things
Albin Lundholm Vastly superior to anything U2 did and as much as I love The Queen Is Dead, I'd say Doolittle & Surfa Rosa are better
I'd like to see:
Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West
Arcade Fire - Funeral or Neon Bible
Animal Collective - Feels
Wu Tang - 36 Chambers
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
Arguably my favourite album.
no one's arguing with you about that, you can literally decide your favourite album
Quisnam I'm just saying that if I had to choose a favourite then this would be in the running. Chill out.
It's between this, Ok Computer and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for me
SlayerPJO yankee hotel foxtrot is 10/10
IMO surfer rosa is better but doolittle is still one hell of an album
Can You do: - Achtung Baby - U2
- Grace - Jeff Buckley
- Beck - Odelay
Please
hell yes
Please enjoy.
It's Pixies without the definite article. Come On Pilgrim was their first release. REM were hardly "overly earnest", at least in those days. And the last two albums came out twenty years later and can't be considered to have been part of their influence and legacy. Pitchfork should know better.
Do some metal albums pls?
Alice in Chains: Dirt, Tripod
Possesed: 7 Churches
Morbid Angel: Covenenant
Celtic Frost: To Mega Therion
Judas Priest: Painkiller
Bathory: Blood, Fire, Death
Neurosis: Through Silver and Blood
Godflesh: Streetcleaner
Love this album.
Siamese dream next
R.E.M.'s Murmur next pls
Vladimir Rosas automatic
Drew I'm fine with anyone
Vladimir Rosas Monster
I'd love to see something about Bad Religion's Suffer or Refused's The Shape of Punk to Come
Probably the best indie rock album of all time
DEBASSSEARRRRRR
I gagged at the eyeball thing.
Pixie's Doolittle in MAN minutes
I love that scene with the eyeball but I am also going to puke if I watch it one more time
Someone should upload the full album
I smoked a cig with Kim Deal once.
Jesus bout time
Crack CRACK!!
what band is that next to sonic youth at 4:05?
Ok technically Come On Pilgrim was their debut, but I'm not gonna be that guy
Frizzle fry -primus would be a cool liner notes. Same with around the fur- deftones
Please make one of these for Cross by Justice
Burzum - filosofem next!
WARN ME NEXT TIME EYEBALLS ARE SLICED PLEASE
Albini isn’t a jerk, he’s just up-front and real.
Are you saying he was right about Doolittle?
Yet Steve Albini produced In Utero, which debuted at #1.
garbage album. Lucky Cobain blew a hole in his head, otherwise what he feared most would have come around. Nirvana = hype. Albini is garbage.
Joy division Unknown pleasure next?
yeah best band ever, except for the last two albums
Albini's comin' with the zingers!
Bauhaus - In The Flat Field in 5 minutes pls
Surfer Rosa wasn't their debut. What about the Come On Pilgrim EP?
What about there first album, Come on pilgrim
Doolittle, Surfer Rosa - and yeah whatever the rest
Bossonova
Please oh pleeeease do Daydream Nation next
Please do They Might be Giants "Flood"
PLEASE DO "ITS A SHAME ABOUT RAY BY THE LEMONHEADS" PLEAAASSSSSSSEEEEE
No mention of Come On Pilgrim?
This Year's Model please.
If only Albini had produced it.
HEY
BEEN TRYIN TO MEET YOU
HMM HMHMM HMHMM
MUST BE A DEVIL BETWEEN US
OR WHORES IN MY HEAD
WHORES AT THE DOOR, WHORE IN MY BED
Do Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted
Saw them live with Weezer!
Pinkerton - Weezer, pls.
Nobody can do much in 5 minutes, give 'em a break.
Oof, that eyeball :(
Hank Williams would be cool. Even though not many full length records
"overly earnest songwriters in the college rock scene." THAT is an overly earnest sentence, probably written by someone who wasn't alive then.
Please do fantastic planet by failure
they didn't record all the songs in one day. they averaged a song a day in the studio
Come on Pitchfork! Reviewing "Doolittle" without a single reference to the Gun Club and Jeffrey Lee Pierce?! His solo album "Wildweed" was the blueprint for the Doolittle-sound:
th-cam.com/video/YVtyfPwjGjY/w-d-xo.htmlm19s
What band is shown when it says "overly earnest songwriters of the college rock scene" ?
r.e.m
that's what i was thinkin. thank you!
Wasn't come on pilgrim their debut?
