I cannot wait to see your in depth test. Thanks to you I discovered Heritage Audio with the HA609A that I bought after seeing your review. The Symph EQ is high on my priority list and I'm waiting for your opinion about it.
Although I agree Heritage Audio is quality products, my 73 EQ died within the first 6months and it's been in for warranty for another 6 months and counting and I had to email them 2 or 3 times just for a status update to literally only receive "it's on the bench" in reply so I haven't been too happy with the customer service tbh. The products sound great tho just been ridiculous having to deal with them on what is an $1100 EQ.

I'm looking forward for your full review as I can 2 questions about this unit. May I ask those questions now? 1. This EQ has M/S mode, so in reality while mastering it would be ideal to have 2 units. One for subtractive EQ before compression and one for addictive EQ after compression. Would you agree that during mastering it's better to do subtractive EQ before compression and addictive after? Can you comment on this? 2. I know you love Neve 542s in your chain. But if you would have to choose only one piece of gear. Would you rather invest your money in pair of Neve 542 or this Heritage Audio EQ for mastering? You can only choose one. Thank you.
I'd advise to get out of the mindset that in mastering "you do this and that", you do whatever the song calls for, could be 2 eq pre comp, could be none, could be only adding and not subtraction anything, could be anything. Generally speaking, I don't eq post compression, but that's just me, I have enough variety of both comps (and eq) to pick one that doesn't require compensation after. Second question has no answer, you can't compare an ew with a saturator. Neve are more for mixing, altho I use then in mastering about 50% of the times, that is again, because of my chain, you can't take one link out and have the same result or the same % of use. An eq would probably make more sense tho'
Please show us this and every mastering tool you test on DDMF's Plugin Doctor (Hardware option) at least. We also need to check, phase shift, noise floor, harmonic content added and of course channel matching in every setting. Thank you!
As mentioned, this is a new take (and much better from the first days of testing) on the bandaxall eq, which is what the bax is, of which I've never been a big fan but this is a whole different ballgame. I'll leave my thoughts for the review but anyone looking at this will know the freq choices are already so much better
I'm not sure if you would be into this, but Gamechanger Audio has a really cool rack distortion unit called the "Plasma Rack" which is high gain distortion that uses a plasma tube. I have the eurorack version which has less features but it sounds really great on snares and drums. I myself I'm looking into diving into analog outboard mixing and mastering for the first time after years of doing in the box for clients. And I do have a question (noob!) I did see your top 10 budget eqs and I could be particularly looking into getting one of those. Overall I'm just looking to just mostly a good eq and an exciter perhaps to run the final mix through to sweeten it up. My question and where I am confused a bit is.. do I have to get a stereo eq or I can use a single unit like the klartek or rolls? Highly appreciate any input :)
