For future watchers: I stand by the content (and comedy) in this video, but not the format. This was an early entry in my learning to analyze media and express my critique, so I did it in a way that was, at the time, familiar and fun to me. I've since moved on to better/original/traditional video essay formats. I hope you like it anyway.
Sin #25: Teacher doesn't know how to write Homura's name because Japanese names of a given pronunciation can be written in many different ways. Most likely, the teacher saw the student information form with "Homura" written in hirigana and assumed it might have a kanji form, so out of politeness she doesn't want to just write it in hiragana. Turns out Homura's name is only in hiragana (which almost never happens in real life).
Fun fact: every female character with a Japanese name in the entire PMMM franchise has a given name for a surname. Tons and tons of characters between multiple mangas and a bunch of games, and I haven't been able to find a single one with a 'real' surname
@@lucybiddle3912 isn’t this a thing with most anime tho and not just PMMM? Where the names ARE real names but if a person was actually named that it would be really weird
Actually it doesn't count. Mami and Madoka were talking about Madoka making a contract. Sayaka wasn't part of the discussion about why Madoka was planning to make a contract and join Mami. Madoka was talking about how useless she thought her life was going to be and that she was ONLY going to do it to be Mami's partner. So it applies.
Madoka was doing English homework. They couldn't have brought Mami's body out of the labyrinth because it was chewed up and then exploded. Madoka's mom explained about the chemicals. This was cut in the movie. Homura killed Kyubey before he had a chance to make a contract with Madoka like in the original timeline. This was a separate instance from the mall. Kyubey's line about witches and magical girls is a pun that doesn't quite work in English. MAho shoJOs become MAJOs. Just a few sins that may or may not really be sins. Also surprised you didn't point out how stupid and impractical Kyosuke's CD player is
He still brings up a good point about ancient cultures and the like not having the concept of witches. And who the hell *is* he addressing? If he's addressing the audience, why is this the only time both the show and the movies do this?
Kyosuke's CD player really is quite odd in this world. The movie is set in the future so I thought they would have moved to digital formats instead of relying on optical memory. Then again, this movie was released in 2012.
I think the reason homura doesn't tell Mami about witches is because it's is showed that Mami is less stable then she appears and in the game Mami commits suicide just knowing she could turn into a witch
Mami is really the most fucked up- SPOILER: in the series, in one timeline when Mami knew about that too, she killed Kyoko and tried to kill Homura by saying something like "Witches are made of Magical Girls! the only thing that we can do to stop that is die" but was killed by Madoka before she could shoot Homura. We know H went trough 100 timelines, maybe there were other times when she snaped and tried to kill or suicide, so she knew pretty much that telling Mami could just make things worse and it was better to just not
Of course Kyubey statet that. Of course he wouldnt say: Without us you would be the greatest ;) But we all know about human capabilities and our ability to learn and to adept. That has nothing to do with the Kyubeys. Look at Madoka and what shes capable of. Kyubeys wont ever understand human beeings and what they are capable of. Yes, maybe they brought us the fire, maybe they sped up human evolution but anyhow sooner or later humanity would arrive at the same point with or without them. Thats just the limitless potential of humanity.
The sin at 12:59 - That's not a sin! Everyone should know that mixing common household cleaners can kill you. The show never says, but my guess is they were using bleach and vinegar which can quickly produce several times the lethal concentration of chlorine gas even in a large room.
People aren't born knowing that mixing cleaners can kill you :) In any case, the show version has Junko explicity tell Madoka about it, which means she actually DIDN'T know, and since the movie cut that scene out... Also, worse than that, the bottles don't have labels! How does she know what's in them? Three more sins!
Even though this is my favourite anime I've been waiting so long for a video like this one! I can't wait for the second part ^^ But why the sins for Homu's hair flips, those hair flips give me life XD
I'm glad you like it! I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think it was a good show, so we're in the same boat. The hair flip sins are mostly because she does them at completely the wrong time. Drop a stone-cold one-liner and strut away? Meh, nothing. Mami shuts her down and leaves her alone in the middle of nowhere? Hair flip! Her sense of dramatic timing is all over the place.
Ooookay, not sure if this was covered already, but major speculation is that Kyubey himself put Charlotte's Grief Seed there to pressure Madoka and Sayaka into making contracts. Quotes directly from the wiki, though I made a slight edit because the first line was referencing a point already covered: " Since the shock of such a realization (referring to what you should have wished for instead) could darken a soul gem very quickly (much like the speed with which Homura's darkened in Episode 11), this theory allows for the possibility that Kyubey contracted Charlotte while Madoka and Sayaka were visiting the hospital in Episode 3. Perhaps Kyubey was hanging around on Madoka's shoulder, telepathically eavesdropping on people in the hospital, and heard Charlotte and her mother. "Charlotte, I wish I could eat cake with you one last time before I die." Kyubey sent one of his other bodies to make a contract. Once the cake was finished and they said their goodbyes, the wording of the wish caused the mother to die on the spot, and then Kyubey wondered out loud why Charlotte didn't wish to cure the disease instead. Instant witch, and he stuck the new grief seed into the wall where Madoka and Sayaka were headed to pressure them into contracting. Alternatively, Charlotte was an existing witch that was defeated and the grief seed was either overused or, perhaps, Kyubey planted it there after receiving it from the magical girl that used it."
@@Shadethewolfy We do see what looks to be Charlotte's Magical Girl in the finale and she doesn't look like Nagisa. The description and wish is from a prototype version of Charlotte. It's possible that Nagisa maybe an alternate of Charlotte. There are differences in each timeline.
Actually, that's one of a few sins that are only true for the movie version, which is what I used for this. They took that scene out for some reason, as well as a couple others (like Madoka's dream at the beginning).
The reason they removed those scenes was so that they could squeeze episodes 1 to 9 fully into one movie, one of the reasons why I don't like Beginnings.
one thing i never understood is that kyubey says he can grant any wish, yet later we find that the ability to grant said wishes actually depends on the karmic destiny of the person making the wish.
Okay, here I am watching this video as someone whose favourite anime is Madoka Magica. I already understood that you did this partly for shits and giggles and you really succeeded in that the way you made me laugh quite some times, so well played mate. I had a pretty long comment before, but when I tried editing it, I slipped and deleted it instead, so fuck that unorganized written-mid-watching comment and do this in a structured manner. Because there are some things you can sin for fun and there are other things you cannot sin for fun, so I will correct you where you probably misunderstood the series. Actually there are very good explanations for some things, which is why I like the series so much. Welp. Here I go again, repeating a 20 minute video just to satisfy my desire to show you your mistakes ._.' I hope you read it and it may even interest you :) BTW I imagine many dislikes came just from the title itself, I was about to follow as well without really watching the video just because this series could in no universe (hah! the pun!) be bad enough for 20 minutes worth of sins^^ EDIT: Well, you brought this upon yourself with your 20 minute video, but this list is getting longer than I expected. So I started putting a little more effort into it as well and started looking up all the scenes I previously just called "probably different in the original dub". So I'm continuing to do it properly from 12:09 and later 1:00 - As the series (dunno bout the movies) show later, the mother and the teacher do have a close relationship 1:11 - Translation error - Dubs are good, right? Original says that it will be okay *after* they get through the hard phase. 1:34 - IKR!! That's why I beg newcomers *not* to watch the movie when they wanna take a look at the series! 2:08 - Well, technically you're right, but from my own experience, those teachers are the most beloved ones, the students would keep quiet for them^^ 2:20 - This may be a perspective error for you but I personally can see that there is a guy sitting in front of Madoka, though I still give you that her voice probably doesn't reach 2:46 - Just a guess, but I think that's to underline that her name is something unusual. I think the teacher was not sure what Kanji to use, so Homura wrote it herself 3:07 - You know that she *faked* her sickness, right? If Madoka was not the nurse's aide, she would have chosen another way. 4:13 - Well...what else? Telepathic music transfer? 5:05 - something I didn't think about myself yet. Actually well played! 6:21 - I think this is rather a sin off for a good move by the "villain" 6:31 - Wrong. What do you think why Kyubey was even running in that direction? Why Homura was chasing him? He was on his way to Madoka, so no lie at all. 6:46 - Tell that Rebellion when [Spoiler] Homura uses her ring (I see that as an equivalent here) to show the other girls that she is one of them. So you may not wanna show it to strangers, but among Magical Girls, yeah, why not. Although, it was probably not meant as "this" kind of "proof", rather it probably is expressing what they are in a neutral fashion 6:50 - Dub time, yeeeaaah. In the original version, it would be a lot harder to find the connection since "Soul Gem" is just a word for itself (note their basic english skills are not developed very far) 7:20 - I am really not sure here, I deleted my previous line and I'm calling this one a put. I looked up the original wording here and it doesn't seem to differ. I'm pretty confused but I am pretty sure there is a way to interpretate that differently (maybe only in japanese). 8:08 - probably a bit suspicious to walk arround with a giant baseball bat, eh? 8:15 - she actually does. I think that one before was a show-off. Also part of deceiving the audience, which you may sin as you please. 9:28 - Because that turned out really well before, right? 9:37 - Special Shaft Studio Animation Style, deal with it (:D) 11:16 - Well, I don't remember that being in the *series* or the manga, so...eeeeh. Well the head is being chomped, it would make sense that one of the thousand teeth got pressed on that thing, wouldn't it? 12:09 - In the manga "A different story" there are actually other magical girls in the city. It being so big only explains why they never cross roads. So yeah, admittedly a bad wording, but that's again a problem with the dub. In the original, it's just "Mami's *Territory*", so it's less generalized. 12:20 - So even *you* fell for his faked emotional behaviour? ;) 12:46 - cuz the labyrinth expired after they defeated the witch. No labyrinth, no body. 12:49 - She said it will take a long time. Not coming to school is not that suspicious and your parents are usually called in a week at best. And if she didn't talk to the other people in the appartment, they will only notice after someone sees that she isn't paying her bills. 13:04 - You already answered this in another comment, but for consistency: In the anime there is a scene showing Madoka gathering that knowledge. 13:20 - Not sure if troll or stupid 14:47 - English lessons. Well, mirrored and translated, it's not as easy to see I guess. 14:58 - Yeah, Homura is a big inconsistendy (to say it with Kyubeys words) which kinda bothers me a lot in the series, but only if I think too much about it. 15:10 - *Thank you!* This is the sin I was waiting for, since it bothered me *really* hard. This was my biggest point of criticism I had to be agreed on. the only thing you could argue with is that the amount of time she can stop is limited and she has to re-stop everytime, but that's not explained enough to justify this scene. 15:33 - Translation Error. Gotta love demn dubs. 15:54 - Agreed, also a tiny detail I couldn't overlook as well. 16:49 - LOLed, man I never thought about that, seriously! 16:55 - Oh boy, here we go! I love to explain this to you as I just recently finished the "The Different Story" Mangas. Those are about Kyoko and Mami meeting each other. Kyoko is living in the house next to the church. One day, some people get posessed by a witch's kiss and try to commit mass suicide inside the church (I think it was by burning everything to the ground). Kyoko saw it and tried to prevent it. Her father spotted her while doing that and that way, found out about it. 18:30 - Combining Kyubeys knowledge with what we've seen thus far should be enough to indicate those things for an intelligent being like him. 18:41 - She doesn't need to kill Kyubey for good, but all the times she actively tried to kill it (or succeeded) it was only to prevent it from granting Madoka a wish in that excact moment or to prevent the immedeate meeting of them. So yeah, she has a reason to do it sometimes. 19:24 - As we see in the flashbacks later, she *did* succeed in the mall, there was just a new body of Kyubey coming up which in the end got through to Madoka. 19:35 - It actually *is* a big reveal if you know what an incubator is and does - not even related to that anime, I'm talking about real incubators. 19:49 - This is the first time we see a transformation. They took out the body quick enough, that's all. Mami's body was also in the maze. They probably disappear once the maze is built or resolved. 20:07 - I was *so* waiting for this! Yeah, the first things are just for the viewer ans shit. But this scene is actually one of my favourite arguments to shove into people's faces when they ask my why I despise dubs. I had several people asking what the fuck the connection is! But it's - as you say - a wordplay, which only works in japanese (given, this adds the question how non-japanese magical girls are being deceived). Yes, it is meant to be a pun, so young girls who have a very specific picture of magical girls are more likely to fall for it. But the original wording makes it clear that "Magical Girl" ("Mahou Shoujo") can be transformed to "Witch" ("Majo") by substracting the middle part of the words. This is really kinda genius actually. So yeah, dub power, wooohooo! Looks like I'm finished. As I said, it got longer than I indended it to be, but I hope you read it nevertheless, be it just so you may gather some extra knowledge :) I recommend screenshotting the comment and putting it on a second screen or something so you don't have to skip in your window all the time. All in all a nice video, as long as you don't take it too seriously like some other viewers (and me at first) did. Still waiting for the second Part. Have a good day! :D
Hey, thanks for taking the time to write all of this, I appreciate that you care! You already understand that most of these aren't actually serious; as per the Cinema Sins tradition, a "sin" is literally any minor nitpick or bad joke, no matter how minor or...bad. I mean, even if we take off a sin for everything you've mentioned, it'd still be at...uh...like 170 sins? Ish? And so many of those are just silly, too. To avoid putting another wall of text here, I'll just say one main thing, about problems that come from the movie version/the dub specifically. It's true that using the movie AND the dub generated some extra sins, but even if that stuff is explained elsewhere (like with Kyoko's dad), the ideal would be for it to also be explained here. It's the same as any movies adapted from something else; it should generally try to be as self-contained as possible. Someone who found this on Netflix and only ever watched the two movies would never know anything else! All that said, I do really appreciate the time you took to sin this sins video! I did this because I think it's a really good show, not because I just want to disparage it. I'm glad you ended up liking the video, and I'll see you when Eternal is done. Have a good day yourself :)
Thanks for the quick answer :) I do agree that those shows should contain all the information necessary to understand the plot. If we take the Kyoko example, I think this is something you may not want to include in your movie because it is irrelevant for the plot, and it would cut back to her past where she had a completely different character, so it would have to explain even more and give her character development, and so on and so forth we drift away from the plot we are trying to experience. So my point is that this is something I asked myself as well when I was watching the series, so the sin is definitely justified anyways. I just included those parts to exaggerate and give a proper explanation for those who were interested in what is truly behind these statements. And I think all in all the series did a good job at pacing together only the information necessary to follow the plot :) Yeah, I like the show as well and I think especially then it is important to investigate it even more so we don't miss out on plotholes just because we were blinded by our own affections. In fact, I am planning on doing videos about details in anime series for a long time now (though I don't find the time at the moment to make any of my ideas happen), and I'm searching through the web to find references that may inspire me or show me some things I would have missed if I started making videos just with my own knowledge. So thank you, too. for making this video. It is definitely in my playlist of references, so when the time comes, I will probably refer to it (be it in 1-2 years 'til I finally start^^) :) So, yeah, thanks for the video and thanks for the answer. Replying to comments is something I really value as a precious trait for a youtuber! :D
Wait, how did Madoka remember Homura which was far away and hard to see the details of her but doesn't remember Kyubey who was right next to her and spoke to her.
Wow, you're totally right! Totally missed it. I blame the movie version for cutting out the dream scene from the beginning so I forgot about it. +1 sin and a point for you!
Yeah, I had to reupload ALREADY because of a copyright claim last night. I disputed it and immediately got shot down, even though it's totally in fair use. I've submitted a dispute for the reupload too, so it should be viewable for the time being, but don't be surprised if it gets taken down later. (If it does, I won't be able to reupload for three months for fear of a third strike. Ugh.)
Aw, does that mean I missed the sins for Eternal? Is there any way for you to upload it on an alternate account? I just love this video so much. I like PMMM, but even I can admit that it has some flaws that are never explained and/or glossed over.
If Sony and TH-cam abide by fair use law, the Eternal video should be up soon-ish (I've submitted a counter-notification that's been under review for about two weeks now). If not, I'll look into uploading it elsewhere.
Madoka is the nurse's aide for her class in every timeline coz Homura's reset always goes to this 1st day at school so it would make no sense for Madoka to NOT be the nurse's aide.
At that one part Kyubey didn't lie, he said "If magical girls are SAID to be born from wishes, witches are born from curses" meaning the metaphor of a Magical Girl being born from a wish is akin to the metaphor of a magical girl being born from a curse.
I meannn.. it is also literal.. like actually literal.. magical girls are technically born from wishes, which what is needed to be a magical girl, which is a wish to be said and granted, then the/a magical girl is born. The witches being born of curses thing is also literal with how it gets implied/said later on.. this literally goes over everybody's head... kyubey in eps 6 or 7 says sayaka is starting to be carrying a curse within herself/a curse is brewing in within herself. "Her" obviously meaning her soul gem and he is referring to the "black" or "darkness" within the soul gem and not her actual body since it's literally nothing, but, a walking empty corpse. This pretty much confirms the darkness or pitch black energy/substance is a curse/are curses. Curses canonically develop/produce within a magical girl's soul gem thru negative emotions aka curses, negative emotions = curses, and thru magic usage as we see with sayaka. In rebellion, kyubey literally refers to homura's completely blackened soul gem as "completely curse blackened". Confirming it even more, it's a curse/curses. Then, homura confirms this even more in eps 8 or 9, herself, confirming it herself even more by saying sayaka bore a curse equal to her wish. Sayaka's soul gem had so many curses and was so curse blackened her soul gem completely shattered and homura, specifically, says magical girls are reBORN into a witch from the curses. Not, transformed, not turned, she SPECIFICALLY literally says "reBORN". Sayaka was BORN/reBORN from curses/her curses aka her negative emotions/suffering. "Witches are born from curses", it all ties back thru, coming full circle, he was NOT lying, he was actually literally telling the truth, but, omitting specific information of it being thru/being magical girls themselves. He also says in ep 10; "it begins with a prayer (a wish) and it ends with a curse.", full circle, again, he's literally referring to how magical girls begin and are born, thru and from a wish, a prayer, and how it ends with how witches are reborn aka born, thru and from a curse/curses.
Okay but that "teen drama" actually pissed me off so much that I stopped watching the show. Like imagine you're friends with someone and they know full well that you have had romantic feelings for someone for a very long time and they just up and decide "I'm gonna date that person." and basically give you a deadline to ask out that person before them. Like what kind of "friend" does that? That's actually fucked. I've literally been mad about this for years.
Two things that aren't quite correct: - I heard that one of the official books states that Kyoko's father found out what was going on when he made a mistake once put the people still cheered for him. He then started saying wrong things on purpose, just to see if the people were really just blindly agreeing to his words. I'm not sure how he eventually figured out it was Kyoko's doing though... - Homura DID kill Kyubey in the mall. The one Madoka found was a backup.
6:06 On episode 5, Sayaka gets into a fight with Anja (although she is a familiar) but she gets interrupted by Kyoko and the familiar runs away 8:21 That portal is being opened by Mami, not the labyrinth itself, we see this later with Charlotte's labyrinth too
Everything Wrong With Everything Wrong With Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Beginnings Before I begin, can I just say you should just watch the series subbed? Thanks. 1. I don't see why this is an issue. (You'll see me say this a lot) 2. Does it really bother you that much? 3. Tatsuya actually wasn't screaming at the top of his lungs in the Japanese. Also, Junko is a heavy sleeper; deal with it. 4. Did that really need two sins? 5. And you have a dirty mind. 6. "He should be on the floor now" As you say this, there is a shot with Tatsuya on the floor. 7. It's a cool, modern city in a fictional universe. Stop thinking about it. 8. I'm sure that glass is very reflective. Look how bright it is outside! 9. A mirror behind them. It's not rocket science. 10. Junko is friends with the teacher and the teacher loves sharing with the class. Why is this a sin? 11. This was all the dub. Originally, Junko said that this is where things start to fall apart if it's not real, but if they make it MUCH FARTHER they should be set for another year. 12. As the train scene shows, sexism is a thing in the world, and Junko may be preparing Madoka for reality. Why is this a sin? 13. In the shot where Tatsuya tries spearing the cherry tomato there's a partially eaten piece of food in the background. The fork isn't sharp, and spearing tomatoes is hard anyways. It was enough to get the other food. Also, he's a toddler. He's learning. Why are you trying to apply logic to a 3-year-old? 14. Junko means, "No, I'm late, so I don't want MORE coffee; just one last sip. This is all you, dude. It ain't a sin. 15. That does not look like ten miles. That looks like a mile tops on a pretty road. 16. The movie came after the series; of course it does. Also, WATCH THE SERIES ALREADY! 15. Oh, thanks. Sympathy. Cool. 16. Why is this a sin? She's a fucking goddess. 17. Is Is Wrong to Compliment Moms in a Dungeon? 18. She's giggling in one of the shots; of course she's okay with it. And Sayaka's just... like that. 19. Hmm... that's actually the first legitimate sin in this whole video! Congrats! 20. Is it not possible that the principal just doesn't know? 21. She's out of swinging distance. It's not actually a big hazard. 22. Some people are shitheads. Is that so hard to grasp? And that's just mean to the teacher. 23. Does it look like the teacher is going to give a shit about that? Also, Sayaka is clearly in the same place as the next shot. 24. Stop double-sinning for no reason. 25. What kind of a nit-picker are you? 26. Because Homura is a strong independent woman who don't need no man. Why are you sinning this? 27. Umm... people do that all the time IRL. She's new; of course everyone wants to talk! 28. No, Sayaka is diagonal to her and could see the direction Homura was looking in. Do you have any short-term memory? 29. Because she thinks Homura is cool. This was two sins ago, is it that hard? 30. Madoka has been the nurse's aide since before Homura started time-looping. That's a set fact; she is the nurse's aide. 31. They probably overheard, they're right there. 32. She's asking a valid question. That's all. Why is being intelligent a sin? 33. She just thinks Homura is shy. 34. Well, if you know it, why do you sin it? 35. Why is this a sin? Sayaka is (note: was) like this. 36. That's just how Sayaka could be. 37. Yeah, obviously. They're talking about it. Wait two seconds, dude. 38. Yeah, they are. Why is being correct a sin again? 39. Nitpicker much? 40. She's a naturally helpful person. Also, it's out of the ordinary; that's clear to her. Why is this a sin? 41. She wants to help it. It's just in her nature. 42. The fall from the ceiling couldn't have been what knocked the wind out of him? 43. Maybe he's trying to come off as more hurt than he is to Madoka. Why is he eating in a later scene? Why is he bathing? Probably to look more sympathetic to Madoka and Sayaka. 44. This should be a sin on you for unnecessary repetition. 45. The damage is done. Madoka has seen Kyuubey; there's no turning back. 46. She probably just followed Madoka down. 45. Cool. Thanks. 46. No, she isn't good at it. That's the point. 47. Witches are random and crazy. They pop up when they want to. 48. Madoka is too kind for her own good; that's part of who she is. 49. She means the visuals. Why is this a sin? 50. Dude, those things are creepy. They have thorn scissors. Madoka and Sayaka have no idea what's going on. They're freaked out. 51. She's here. The creepy cotton balls aren't attacking them at the moment. It's under control. Mami is a liar, but not necessarily about this. 52. She probably went from holding it to floating it. 53. Does this animation look lazy? 54. Just now, off-camera. 55. They disappeared in a flower sparkle. It's a transformation. 56. Is it that big a deal? 57. There are only a few major witch fights in the series. It seems perfectly plausible. Witches do what they want; chaos is their nature. 58. Well, Mami did keep this Kyuubey body alive, so he's not lying. 59. I think he originally just said he wanted a favor, not that it was his purpose for being there. It was the dub.
Heyo! Thanks so much for taking the time to write this out, honestly. I would love to actually address some of these (the ones other than "Why is this a sin?" because the best answer is "Why is anything a sin?"), but I don't know which of your comments go with which sins, so I can't. Instead I'll just say that the reason most of them are sins is because sins are meaningless and anything is a sin. The whole video is a sin. Nothing is a sin. That's kind of the point. No, most of these things don't actually bother me in the slightest. It's for fun!
2:32 They shouldn't have been able to have that little back and forth, and their teacher should have noticed if they did, but in all three of those shots Madoka and Sayaka *are* sitting diagonally from one another.
19:49 I heard from somewhere that Sayaka needs water to summon her witch form (Oktavia), and her tear did it. In Rebellion she stabs her own heart to summon it
I JUST now realized that Madoka says she can't become a magical girl for a cake while being in a labyrinth of a witch from a magical girl who's wish was a CHEESECAKE.
I think the biggest problem with this movie is not only the condensed nature of the movie since it has the first 8 epiaodes, but also the plot hole that is Mami's missing backstory. Without that element, Mami's loneliness doesn't make sense.
and even then you probably have to listen to the farewell story/read the first volume of the different story if you want to understand her better. great read btw really makes kyoko and Mami on pair with the rest of the cast. (also read tart magica as well)
12:02 I'm glad you took a sin off for this. The way they handled Mami's death was really well done. Madoka is still shaken even weeks after seeing her die, which is much more realistic than most media where we only see a character get sad over death once or twice.
10:09 Not really. The Ribbons tightened around her and she IS tied up around the stomach. You could sin this for the fact that the ribbons let homura lean forward. Edit: And where did you watch this episode? In other versions, there are less ribbons and some are yellow.
11:06 - This was probably said, but Charlotte is a very fast witch. Mami didn't move because she didn't register that Charlotte was moving towards her.
"commenting on the teacher's love life like it's any of their business" It's called gossiping, Kyubey. Come back when you understand the basics of human society.
Actually, Kyubey has stated that he doesn’t like wasting his bodies since it costs energy to remake them, so when he said Mami is a “lifesaver” he means for the body he’s currently using. He omits things because the girls don’t ask the right questions.
I've watched this video like 5 times but in anyways for sin #155, could it because she isn't able to perceive anything? Like she has no eyes or ears or nose when she's in the container so wouldn't it make sense for her to not remember anything? That also makes me think when we sleep and we can't perceive anything does that mean our souls have left ou- I'm going to stop before I have an existential crisis.
The show doesn't explain it either way. I would buy that they have no sensory perception, but it makes less sense to me that they wouldn't know time was passing/had passed at all.
@@Tintenseher Time is pretty subjective though. Human beings interpret the passing of time by observing the world around, without those necessary sensors it'd be hard to really tell how much time has passed. Either way, I really wish they had explored how the souls worked alot more. It was a really interesting concept.
Some sins that probably could be removed based on my observation: Sin#11: A relationship can be falling apart for a year. In this case it might just be a more exaggerated way of saying "going downhills". Sin#15: The school could be close but not visible as Madoka can turn around somewhere. Sin#26: Someone has already pointed out that "Homura" can be written defferently in Japanese, like ”焔”or"炎”, the teacher only saw the Hiragana "ほむら” (Homura) on the student form so she doesn't know if it is in Kanji or just Hiragana. Turns out it's just Hiragana. Sin#28: As Homura is looking at a sitting Madoka while standing, the person she is looking at can be inferred from the angle she looks down. Sin#30: The timelines in Madoka are very similar, so it is probably safe for Homura to assume that Madoka is still the Nurse's aid after being the Nurse's aid in the about 100 previous timelines. Sin#102: I believe telepathy only works when Kyubey is around and is willing to do it as a medium. Sin#114: I guess Mami is quite strong.... Sin#117: Homura doesn't say things she is not sure about, because she isn't sure if she is a veteran or not, she could not deny or admit it, but being not sure can be perfectly described by saying "perhaps". Sin#119: Because it was probably chewed and blown to pieces. Sin#144: English, obviously. Sin#164: Kyoko was probably fatally wounded, but regenerated because she and her dad did not know about Soul Gems. Sin#176: Kyubey cannot teleport. He just sneaked in. Him disappearing into the dark is part of the structure of Homura's house. Sin#188: In previous timelines, Madoka becomes a magical girl before Homura meets her. This didn't happen because Homura killed Kyubey when he approached Madoka for the first time. Sin#189: Homura shot a full magazine of a Beretta 92FS in a split second, which is structurally impossible for the gun unless she stopped time. Sin#194: Other witches' human bodies are probably destroyed by themselves or their familiars, seeing as how Homulily's familiars detest Homura's human form in Rebellion. Sins that kind of are not sins but are still sins: Sin#66: Which barriers are the images in the mind of Magical girls that fell into despair. They are so bizarre that they form reality marbles that trap witches inside. However this is still a sin because it makes Kyubey actively lying here: the witches aren't actively hiding. Sin#75: Transformations are probably all near instantaneous and the first transformation were just slowed down for dramatic effect. Dramatic effects are still sins though. Sin#92~96: Also add 5 more sins for dramatic Shaft head tilts. Sin#98: They forgot to ask for Mami's phone number, but since the movie doesn't mention it it still counts. Sin#107~111: According to the canon (in the booklet, radio or in the PSP game, I forgot). Tiro Finale costs large amount of magic and stuns Mami for a short time, which is why she only uses it as a finishing move and is never seen to be attacking after she uses that. However this isn't mentioned in the movie so it still counts. Sin#123: Madoka's mom told her in the TV show, but since this is not mentioned in movie it still counts. Sin#145: Kyoko said in the TV show that fighting in front of Kyusuke's house would get noticed. Still, they think fighting on a skywalk with lots of cars passing beneath would go unnoticed. Sin#162: According to the PSP game, Kyoko's dad found out by seeing her fight a witch that appeared in the church. This is likely not mentioned to in order to save time. Sin#197~205: Kyubey is likely talking to himself as he thinks of how he answered the frustrated magical girls who asked him about witches. This is a common reason for humans to talk to themselves but it could still be a sin for adding human behaviors to the emotionless incubators. Still, I love your video and you're fantastic for making this!
For 15:13, if Homura still has her illness from before she started time traveling she would most likely have to stop and take a breath after running for a bit, causing the weird stop-start thing with her magic.
Also witches are created from curses likey Kyubey said, a curse was growing inside of sayaka(the blackness in her soul gem) and when the curse activated she turned into a witch
a word for one of the sins, the one about mami not moving she was likely frozen in fear most people thing that fight or flight are the only responses to fear, but there's also freezing up it's like a dear in a headlight type of situation
4:45 Ever heard of emotional manipulation? Its very obvious Kyubey looked injured on purpose so Madoka gets pity at him and sees Homura as the bad one does making it easier to make a contract with. 6:35 Of course he is lying, is a manipulating alien bastard! Also one big sin about all this magical girl hunting witches by an alien cat thing is if there are really helping humanity since the dawn of time, why hide it? What is up with Kyubei hiding of every human being apart of little dumb girls? (I have the theory he only targerts them because most of the time there are taught to be dumb. Don't believe me? How many little girl shows aren't about glitter, princess or being cute all the time?) The damn thing could persuade a entire tribe of cavemen into a lovecraftian sect where they sacrificie virgins to an evil god or whatever crap he could come with. And is not like he cared about the humans emotions or moral dillemas that could come with since 1. Humans are very great in being jerks, and 2. He already stated he doesn't cared what they think about all this contract nonsense since he doesn' see us differently from a chicken nugget.
So late, but here is an explanation to "Incubator" To incubate something is to watch over it. Kyubey watches over girls, to "hatch" them into Magical girls, then witches. Like a bird is an incubator to it's eggs.
Of course! We know what the word literally means, but in context she delivers the line like it's supposed to be some big dramatic reveal, and really we have no idea what that means within the universe of the show. :)
Mami did explain that grief seeds are eggs of the witches in EP2. Hence the implication to QB's role as an incubator. I thought that was quite clear tho. Also, "Ma"hoshou"jo" = Magical Girl Majo = Witch It's a play on words. Unfortunately, it only makes sense in Japanese not English.
I refuse to remember a throwaway line in the second episode like it matters in the ninth. Anyway, the point is it still doesn't mean anything; so he incubates them. What does that mean in context? Nothing, yet! It only makes sense at the end of the episode when he gives his OTHER stupid line. And yes, I'm aware that the pun works better in Japanese. Double sin for double pun ;)
Sin on YOU mr Tintenseher! Obviously by "waiting this long" Sayaka meant she wanted to do it BEFORE Mami died so they could have beaten Charlotte together!
1:41 I'm thinking this is actually a neat mechanic and I wanna explore and research it a bit. Speculations involve it representing heaven or some higher plane of thought
Since somehow nobody else has picked up on this but the reason why No one thought to take Mami's dead body after Homura killed Charlotte was because well... She kinda got Eaten, after being initially decapitated, Mami's body falls and then Charlotte quickly follows it and devours the rest of it just before Kyubey stars telling Madoka and Sayaka to hurry the fuck up and wish for something(XD) , there now I'm finished, I just wanted to get that out there GREAT VIDEO BTW
Does anyone else notice anything screwed up with the character's eyes? They don't seem to show emotions like characters in other animes and look kind of soulless especially Homura's.
I was referring to the scenes in the theme of Madoka and Homura together as close friends (1:34), Madoka in god mode (1:36), and of course Madoka in her magical girl outfit. Some of the other versions of the intro are worse.
Actually, in fan-translation Kyubey says that magical girls are born from hope and witches are born from despair, which is more correct and logical, I guess.
I never knew how much the dub sucked. A lot of poor translations. Sayaka becomes a witch because she thought she was a hero but she was really a monster. She thought she was being selfless, but she was really being selfish.
Sin #123 in the show Puella Magi Madoka Magica, she has a flashback of her mom telling her that if she mixed both chemicals together, she could get really sick.
i recommend watching the magia record anime, since the english dub game have been taken down in 2020. will you do it in your own format, or through another cinema sins video?
I'm not planning a video on it or Rebellion (though I am starting to think about that one), but no matter what, I'm never using this style again. If I do come back to the series, it'll be a proper video essay.
13:04 I'm not sure if it was cut out by the movie or by the dub but in the subbed-episode version of this they showed that Madoka's mother actually explained to her that mixing those two would be extremely dangerous. Ye. 17:09 Perhaps he left her behind so that he could either bring his family and himself away to heaven and away from this cruel world and not bring Kyoko with them or that he just wanted to leave Kyoko and torture her uwu.
to answer that tear question, crying is the bodies physical response to letting go of something, whether physical or spiritual. Sayaka's tear triggers the transformation because she's finally letting go of her worldview and finally reaching the pit of her despair.
6:28 its speculated (and by that I mean I think it's canon) that each kyubey is a different individual, and that they all share a collective hivemind. so this particular kyubey's life was in fact in danger, but sometimes they just consider the whole as single entity such as in the case when we first see a kyubey eating another
9:32 Homura doesn't straight up tell Mami that magical girls turn into witches because she knows that Mami would do in such a case, and that Mami is too dangerous to let loose
14:48 it’s obviously English homework. It’s very common for middle and high schoolers to take classes for second languages, and English is commonly spoken in both America and much of Europe
19:46 The tear triggers the witch transformation because she had fallen into despair, and tears from crying are the physical manifestation of despair, so it makes sense.
"Why didn't they just take Mami's body out of the labyrinth?" I think that's because Charlotte ate the rest of Mami after biting her head off. If you look closely after Mami's body falls, Charlotte is seen going towards then eating something, which I presume is Mami's body. Still, love this and subscribed~.
16:01 Since Sayaka didn't have a body when a 100 meters away, she might of not been able to feel, hear, or see anything without the senses that comes with her body. So she could've thought that she passed out for a moment or something.
Contracts is supposed to give you information of what your gonna sign yourself up for im so confused on why hes leaving so many things out and if that was an error then the first human wouldn’t dare take on the task unless crazy.
just gonna throw this out there, Charlotte is close to the ground in the first shot when mami is on standing still, and doesnt seem to move up in any way, but in the next shot, mami is dangling off the ground ,Charlotte drops her body and dives at it. there was no clear movement here, but it could have happened when they cut to homura.
One of your sins dont really make alot of sense--"What a coincidence that Madoka happened to be the nurse aide for the class". It's becuase Madoka was the aid, that everything that happend to Houmura happended to her. Unless your coincidence is that the fact the nurses aid happen to be a magical girl.
If anyone else had been the nurse's aide, this story couldn't have happened. Now, there's a storytelling adage that says coincidences should create problems and not solve them, but sins don't make sense anyway, and a coincidence that starts a story is still a sin :)
The story is the same; the only things that really change are how the details are presented, and a bad translation is worthy of mockery all on its own.
19:49 I’m assuming that the human bodies have rotten by now or their bodies are trapped in their own labyrinth because when Sayaka became a witch her body was inside her labyrinth, and when the magical girls kill the witch the body goes bye bye as well Or the witch ate the body like Mami-
And this is why I have such a problem with Cinema Sins. they say it's to "see what works and what doesn't" and then instead just nitpicks on tiny minor details that are probably intentional or misinterpreted and expect people to think it's funny. It's not.
I think I put together a much more good-faith compilation - clearer distinctions between jokes, nitpicks, and problems, with some actual criticism and discussion - but yes, that's why I didn't make more of these.
Yeah, there's a lot of mistakes like this in this video (I counted at least 18, then lost track ) but that is one I picked up on!
And Homura's surname, Akemi, is actually a given name.
Fun fact: every female character with a Japanese name in the entire PMMM franchise has a given name for a surname. Tons and tons of characters between multiple mangas and a bunch of games, and I haven't been able to find a single one with a 'real' surname
So the teacher was actually right to not attempt it because she likely would have butchered it?
@@lucybiddle3912 isn’t this a thing with most anime tho and not just PMMM? Where the names ARE real names but if a person was actually named that it would be really weird
There should be a sin for Mami saying “magical girl duo” and completely forgetting about sayaka
That is an exceptional catch. +1 sin! And ten points for you!
Yeah, That's so rude.
Average Hat Considering what will happen to her nearly every time she does become one, she's better off (though, Mami doesn't know that, but still).
Covered under 'Mami is a total jerk'. Do I get a no-prize?
I was thinking the same thing about mami
*Mahou shojus
Another thing: Mami didn't move away from Charlotte because of shock.
Kyosuke's CD player really is quite odd in this world. The movie is set in the future so I thought they would have moved to digital formats instead of relying on optical memory. Then again, this movie was released in 2012.
mamis hair is confirmed to be done by magic
So normal people can't see her hair.
her hair is still in drills in the flashback before she was a magical girl though
@@feraltouhou in that case it'd probably something with the animation. If not, then i don't know.
I think the reason homura doesn't tell Mami about witches is because it's is showed that Mami is less stable then she appears and in the game Mami commits suicide just knowing she could turn into a witch
You mind if I play the wii theme
Mami is really the most fucked up-
SPOILER: in the series, in one timeline when Mami knew about that too, she killed Kyoko and tried to kill Homura by saying something like "Witches are made of Magical Girls! the only thing that we can do to stop that is die" but was killed by Madoka before she could shoot Homura.
We know H went trough 100 timelines, maybe there were other times when she snaped and tried to kill or suicide, so she knew pretty much that telling Mami could just make things worse and it was better to just not
@@alieneko_nyo it's explained somewhere that in every timeline where Mami found out she killed herself or tried to kill all of them.
Being meguca is suffering.
Seyiku why
Seyiku lost it
Why doesnt anyone make a wish like:
I wish that the kyuubeys never came to earth!
I always wondered about that.
XDrakeX1 because then they would never get clothes and still be dumb cavemen.
You wont know that. Human beeings are intelligent and are constantly evolving. Maybe it would take longer but they would evolve sooner or later...
kyubey himself stated that humans would still be living naked in caves if not for them
cameron schiralli exactly.
Of course Kyubey statet that. Of course he wouldnt say: Without us you would be the greatest ;)
But we all know about human capabilities and our ability to learn and to adept.
"Why does this girl want to come to the nurse's office?" Have you MET girls? They are a pack group.
Plus in the anime Madoka had a flashback of her family teaching her that is dangerous
Even though this is my favourite anime I've been waiting so long for a video like this one! I can't wait for the second part ^^
But why the sins for Homu's hair flips, those hair flips give me life XD
I'm glad you like it! I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't think it was a good show, so we're in the same boat.
The hair flip sins are mostly because she does them at completely the wrong time. Drop a stone-cold one-liner and strut away? Meh, nothing. Mami shuts her down and leaves her alone in the middle of nowhere? Hair flip! Her sense of dramatic timing is all over the place.
Tintenseher But when done right=EPIC
Like when she landed in the water or during the final scenes of Rebellion
Tintenseher It's cool tho
Ooookay, not sure if this was covered already, but major speculation is that Kyubey himself put Charlotte's Grief Seed there to pressure Madoka and Sayaka into making contracts.
Quotes directly from the wiki, though I made a slight edit because the first line was referencing a point already covered:
" Since the shock of such a realization (referring to what you should have wished for instead) could darken a soul gem very
quickly (much like the speed with which Homura's darkened in Episode 11), this theory allows for the possibility that Kyubey contracted Charlotte while Madoka and Sayaka were visiting the hospital in Episode 3.
Little note: The "Charlotte" you're talking about is Nagisa from Rebellion.
So they are or aren't the same person? What are you trying to say? :/
@@maakujiten3812 Huh, that's very interesting actually. I'll need to rewatch the last movie then. Assuming that's what you mean by finale.
@@Shadethewolfy I meant the last episode of the anime
13:04 in the previous scene Madoka is shown with her mother who tells her she shouldn't mix them. I'm removing a personal sin for this.
Actually, that's one of a few sins that are only true for the movie version, which is what I used for this. They took that scene out for some reason, as well as a couple others (like Madoka's dream at the beginning).
Оh. Sorry then
Yeah, I have no idea why they did it, it just makes it more confusing :/
The reason they removed those scenes was so that they could squeeze episodes 1 to 9 fully into one movie, one of the reasons why I don't like Beginnings.
Right, and it's mostly very short bits that got removed. Couldn't afford the extra two minutes, I guess?
one thing i never understood is that kyubey says he can grant any wish, yet later we find that the ability to grant said wishes actually depends on the karmic destiny of the person making the wish.
Welp. Here I go again, repeating a 20 minute video just to satisfy my desire to show you your mistakes ._.' I hope you read it and it may even interest you :)
BTW I imagine many dislikes came just from the title itself, I was about to follow as well without really watching the video just because this series could in no universe (hah! the pun!) be bad enough for 20 minutes worth of sins^^
EDIT: Well, you brought this upon yourself with your 20 minute video, but this list is getting longer than I expected. So I started putting a little more effort into it as well and started looking up all the scenes I previously just called "probably different in the original dub". So I'm continuing to do it properly from 12:09 and later
1:00 - As the series (dunno bout the movies) show later, the mother and the teacher do have a close relationship
1:11 - Translation error - Dubs are good, right? Original says that it will be okay *after* they get through the hard phase.
1:34 - IKR!! That's why I beg newcomers *not* to watch the movie when they wanna take a look at the series!
2:08 - Well, technically you're right, but from my own experience, those teachers are the most beloved ones, the students would keep quiet for them^^
2:20 - This may be a perspective error for you but I personally can see that there is a guy sitting in front of Madoka, though I still give you that her voice probably doesn't reach
2:46 - Just a guess, but I think that's to underline that her name is something unusual. I think the teacher was not sure what Kanji to use, so Homura wrote it herself
3:07 - You know that she *faked* her sickness, right? If Madoka was not the nurse's aide, she would have chosen another way.
4:13 - Well...what else? Telepathic music transfer?
5:05 - something I didn't think about myself yet. Actually well played!
6:21 - I think this is rather a sin off for a good move by the "villain"
6:31 - Wrong.
Although, it was probably not meant as "this" kind of "proof", rather it probably is expressing what they are in a neutral fashion
6:50 - Dub time, yeeeaaah. In the original version, it would be a lot harder to find the connection since "Soul Gem" is just a word for itself (note their basic english skills are not developed very far)
7:20 - I am really not sure here, I deleted my previous line and I'm calling this one a put.
9:37 - Special Shaft Studio Animation Style, deal with it (:D)
11:16 - Well, I don't remember that being in the *series* or the manga, so...eeeeh.
12:20 - So even *you* fell for his faked emotional behaviour? ;)
12:46 - cuz the labyrinth expired after they defeated the witch.
13:20 - Not sure if troll or stupid
14:47 - English lessons.
As I said, it got longer than I indended it to be, but I hope you read it nevertheless, be it just so you may gather some extra knowledge :)
I recommend screenshotting the comment and putting it on a second screen or something so you don't have to skip in your window all the time.
Thanks for the quick answer :)
I do agree that those shows should contain all the information necessary to understand the plot.
And I think all in all the series did a good job at pacing together only the information necessary to follow the plot :)
Yeah, I like the show as well and I think especially then it is important to investigate it even more so we don't miss out on plotholes just because we were blinded by our own affections.
It is definitely in my playlist of references, so when the time comes, I will probably refer to it (be it in 1-2 years 'til I finally start^^) :)
So, yeah, thanks for the video and thanks for the answer. Replying to comments is something I really value as a precious trait for a youtuber! :D
Also, in addition to the thing about Mami's body, Charlotte ate it, we clearly see that happen.
Kyouko: You know a ***** has an annoying friend, go figure!
Homura: I wonder what kinds of friends you have then.
*OOOOOOOH*
Roasted alive K.O
unfortunately that was basically like saying your friend is dead if you read the different story. (i.e mami was kyoko best friend back in the day)
madoka: pink hair, red eyes. becomes god.
Coincidence?
(Elfen Lied)
NANI!!
@Itz Sharkii Yeah, I thought he was gonna say Future Diary too .......
Her canonical eye color is pink.
+1 sin and a point for you!
hey, you might need to reupload part two ;-;
Yeah, I had to reupload ALREADY because of a copyright claim last night. I disputed it and immediately got shot down, even though it's totally in fair use. I've submitted a dispute for the reupload too, so it should be viewable for the time being, but don't be surprised if it gets taken down later. (If it does, I won't be able to reupload for three months for fear of a third strike. Ugh.)
That would be my name. (Tintenseher.)
Okay! Tell me if and when you re-upload it, so I can watch it before it possibly gets removed again.
Most of them are justified; some not so much.
It made me reflect on the series so thumbs up.
By the way: You would be good at CinemaSins.
About 90% of these are jokes, as per the norm, so thank you :)
14:27 i think the girl who relived the same two weeks would know the places they go
Copycat old comment but it was a month, not two weeks
Two things that aren't quite correct:
- I heard that one of the official books states that Kyoko's father found out what was going on when he made a mistake once put the people still cheered for him. He then started saying wrong things on purpose, just to see if the people were really just blindly agreeing to his words. I'm not sure how he eventually figured out it was Kyoko's doing though...
- Homura DID kill Kyubey in the mall. The one Madoka found was a backup.
Read the Different Story Manga
6:06 On episode 5, Sayaka gets into a fight with Anja (although she is a familiar) but she gets interrupted by Kyoko and the familiar runs away
8:21 That portal is being opened by Mami, not the labyrinth itself, we see this later with Charlotte's labyrinth too
Everything Wrong With Everything Wrong With Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Beginnings
Before I begin, can I just say you should just watch the series subbed? Thanks.
1. I don't see why this is an issue. (You'll see me say this a lot)
Tintenseher I think I came off far more negatively than I meant. Sorry.
Hey, no stress! It's 'cause you care, and that's okay.
2:32 They shouldn't have been able to have that little back and forth, and their teacher should have noticed if they did, but in all three of those shots Madoka and Sayaka *are* sitting diagonally from one another.
inKYUBEYtor
19:49
I heard from somewhere that Sayaka needs water to summon her witch form (Oktavia), and her tear did it. In Rebellion she stabs her own heart to summon it
“Kyoko is a heartless, horrible person.”
*well yes, but actually no.*
NO CAPES.
Subbed.
Why, thank you, my friend.
Nah man. You earned it. That was a pretty dope video
INCREDIBLES REFERENCE! LOL!
12:04 But what about Homura? Or Nagisa(Charlotte) or even the *MANY WITCHES THEY FIGHT IN THE CITY THAT USED TO BE MAGICAL GIRLS*
11:52 she didn’t show up for class one day. I think everyone thought she was just sick, went out with a friend, went on a date, or skipped school
13:05 This is answered in the manga, where Madoka has a flashback of her mother warning her about that.
"commenting on the teacher's love life like it's any of their business"
It's called gossiping, Kyubey. Come back when you understand the basics of human society.
you could probably achieve mami's hair with a big ass curling iron, lots of hair products, and a lot more free time.
13:04
The movie you are sinning is a HD remake of the first 8 episodes of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Some of the content got cut for time purposes.
Whats the name of the song of 10:34 ? is like a remix of credems justiniam?
Some sins that probably could be removed based on my observation:
Sin#11: A relationship can be falling apart for a year.
Sins that kind of are not sins but are still sins:
Sin#66: Which barriers are the images in the mind of Magical girls that fell into despair.
For 15:13, if Homura still has her illness from before she started time traveling she would most likely have to stop and take a breath after running for a bit, causing the weird stop-start thing with her magic.
don't question the architecture or integrity of space and time of SHAFT studios. just dont
Also witches are created from curses likey Kyubey said, a curse was growing inside of sayaka(the blackness in her soul gem) and when the curse activated she turned into a witch
a word for one of the sins, the one about mami not moving
she was likely frozen in fear
most people thing that fight or flight are the only responses to fear, but there's also freezing up
it's like a dear in a headlight type of situation
How many little girl shows aren't about glitter, princess or being cute all the time?)
The damn thing could persuade a entire tribe of cavemen into a lovecraftian sect where they sacrificie virgins to an evil god or whatever crap he could come with.
And is not like he cared about the humans emotions or moral dillemas that could come with since 1. Humans are very great in being jerks, and 2. He already stated he doesn't cared what they think about all this contract nonsense since he doesn' see us differently from a chicken nugget.
So late, but here is an explanation to "Incubator"
To incubate something is to watch over it.
Oh, alright! I just had to explain this so many times, and the way in delivery I thought it meant you didn't know what Incubator meant!
Mami did explain that grief seeds are eggs of the witches in EP2. Hence the implication to QB's role as an incubator. I thought that was quite clear tho.
Also,
"Ma"hoshou"jo" = Magical Girl
Majo = Witch
It's a play on words.
15:06 Why is Sayaka wearing her school uniform if Madoka is in a different outfit?
being meguca is suffering
Where can I watch the movies please tell? I finished the series and would love to watch the movie.
-madoka knows the chemical reaction because her mom told her about it
- i agree w everything else lmao
thanks for mentioning by the lying by omission thing. that always bugged me about kyubey
You're very welcome!
Sin on YOU mr Tintenseher! Obviously by "waiting this long" Sayaka meant she wanted to do it BEFORE Mami died so they could have beaten Charlotte together!
Still hasn't been that long :P
Sin 48 I think the reason why she wants to save kubya [sorry if miss spelled] but because she used her original wish to save a cat what was ran over
Wait... I just realized this...
IS THE DUB VOICE ACTOR FOR KUYBEY THE SAME VOICE ACTOR FOR MORGANA FROM PERSONA 5?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!
Cassandra Lee Morris is indeed Kyubey's VA.
How did Kyubey not realize she was a time traveler when he didn't make her wish yet?
1:41 I'm thinking this is actually a neat mechanic and I wanna explore and research it a bit. Speculations involve it representing heaven or some higher plane of thought
Simple answer:
Everything is fucked up
I call walpurgisnacht, wall-per-gee-snatch because she gonna snatch yo soul gem
1:34 It's in the opening theme? Why haven't I noticed before? It looks really unfamiliar.
I dunno...you'd think there'd be a finger left or something, mafia-style.
Tintenseher hehe Wow , Thanks for the quick reply btw
This is just the beginning , then one of the girls died
Actually before she said that madoka remembered her mom telling her that mixing those chemicals together was dangerous
Not in the movie version!
Tintenseher oh I’m sorry I have only seen the series since I haven’t been able to find them
This was posted on my birthday? AWESOME!!
Happy belated birthday!
Thank you so much!
Does anyone else notice anything screwed up with the character's eyes? They don't seem to show emotions like characters in other animes and look kind of soulless especially Homura's.
I know this vid is kinda old, but I don’t remember the “opening theme that spoils the ending of the anime”. Am I missing something?
I was referring to the scenes in the theme of Madoka and Homura together as close friends (1:34), Madoka in god mode (1:36), and of course Madoka in her magical girl outfit. Some of the other versions of the intro are worse.
0:34 no one gonna talk about how MANY chairs there are in that room??
It is a chairem anime, after all.
I know im late but I have a question, why didn’t they asked Homura to rewind time and warn mami?
HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZING
THAT'S THE KIND OF THING I SUBSCRIBE FOR
Well, thank you very much!

I'm not sure if it was cut out by the movie or by the dub but in the subbed-episode version of this they showed that Madoka's mother actually explained to her that mixing those two would be extremely dangerous.
Ye.

Perhaps he left her behind so that he could either bring his family and himself away to heaven and away from this cruel world and not bring Kyoko with them or that he just wanted to leave Kyoko and torture her uwu.
The dub of the show mentions the chemical thing, too. It's just not in the movie in either version.
The reason Homura Picks up the Marker, and finishes her name was because the teacher usually misspells it.
0:28 whats wrong with the outdoors?
to answer that tear question, crying is the bodies physical response to letting go of something, whether physical or spiritual. Sayaka's tear triggers the transformation because she's finally letting go of her worldview and finally reaching the pit of her despair.
6:28 its speculated (and by that I mean I think it's canon) that each kyubey is a different individual, and that they all share a collective hivemind. so this particular kyubey's life was in fact in danger, but sometimes they just consider the whole as single entity such as in the case when we first see a kyubey eating another
7:35 they hide via labyrinth
8:17 fanservice
9:32 Homura doesn't straight up tell Mami that magical girls turn into witches because she knows that Mami would do in such a case, and that Mami is too dangerous to let loose
10:09 it might be the case that the witch's "twist" would be different each time, as was the case with Sayaka's crush's music tastes
14:48 it’s obviously English homework. It’s very common for middle and high schoolers to take classes for second languages, and English is commonly spoken in both America and much of Europe
Yeah, of course, but what kind of English homework uses nursery rhymes?
“THATS SO MOE IT MAKES ME SICK”
*ding*
19:46 The tear triggers the witch transformation because she had fallen into despair, and tears from crying are the physical manifestation of despair, so it makes sense.
"Why didn't they just take Mami's body out of the labyrinth?" I think that's because Charlotte ate the rest of Mami after biting her head off. If you look closely after Mami's body falls, Charlotte is seen going towards then eating something, which I presume is Mami's body.
Still, love this and subscribed~.
13:05 it’s shown in the series that her mother told her that a long time ago.
Not only did they cut that scene out of the movie, but it's still a dumb coincidence!
Oh lord communication is a problem in this anime.
Removing a sin out of fear is a mood tbh
16:01 Since Sayaka didn't have a body when a 100 meters away, she might of not been able to feel, hear, or see anything without the senses that comes with her body. So she could've thought that she passed out for a moment or something.
Contracts is supposed to give you information of what your gonna sign yourself up for im so confused on why hes leaving so many things out and if that was an error then the first human wouldn’t dare take on the task unless crazy.
6:21 I think he was trying here to manipulate them rather then- I JUST SAW THAT THIS VIDEO IS 6 YERAS OLD WHAT
Congrats on being the only commenter to notice the upload date before posting a correction! 🎉🎉
just gonna throw this out there, Charlotte is close to the ground in the first shot when mami is on standing still, and doesnt seem to move up in any way, but in the next shot, mami is dangling off the ground ,Charlotte drops her body and dives at it. there was no clear movement here, but it could have happened when they cut to homura.
Did you take into consideration that there are alterations in Dubs?
The story is the same; the only things that really change are how the details are presented, and a bad translation is worthy of mockery all on its own.
19:49 I’m assuming that the human bodies have rotten by now or their bodies are trapped in their own labyrinth because when Sayaka became a witch her body was inside her labyrinth, and when the magical girls kill the witch the body goes bye bye as well
Or the witch ate the body like Mami-
And this is why I have such a problem with Cinema Sins. they say it's to "see what works and what doesn't" and then instead just nitpicks on tiny minor details that are probably intentional or misinterpreted and expect people to think it's funny. It's not.
I think I put together a much more good-faith compilation - clearer distinctions between jokes, nitpicks, and problems, with some actual criticism and discussion - but yes, that's why I didn't make more of these.
Wait are the movies just the episodes but all collapsed together
With some things cut or changed or swapped around, yes.
@@Tintenseher ok thanks but what about rebellion aka the 3rd movie
Rebellion is new content.
