    To me ,it's pretty simple.
    His first 4-5 vinyls , basically autobiographical, are so far his best music it doesn't matter.
    We all differ, but I really don't care for his later material.
    May have been a number of reasons Fingers left?
    I like the big Parrothead shows, are fun times and he used to stick to the set lists fans come to hear.
    Interesting to compare his journey to that of his departed mate, the great Jerry Jeff Walker. Jimmy has said numerous times that if he had not taken that ride south with Jerry Jeff, in that 1947 Packard, he may never " have made it". JJW stuck to his roots. But Jimmy wrote great songs from his childhood and early days.
    Jimmy has really given and is still giving so much fun, it would be as well to focus on that.

      Yea me too when I saw him at the Univ. of Ga.in Athens Ga, during Thanksgiving holidays (1974) with my gf Nancy. There were 10-15 people there. Everybody had gone home for Thanksgiving. It was him and a guy Roger I think. He was living in Nashville then and heading to New Orleans from Athens Ga. Nobody new who the hell he was but he did Come Monday and then I knew who he was. When he did He Went To Paris, I was sold. Too bad the commercialism and all the Parrot head bullshit kinda tainted a totally unique, wholly original guy . I'd rather listen to this than brave a concert even if somebody gave me the $100 tickets.

    Thanks for these memories Tom. I still enjoy Jimmy’s concerts of course, but this is a very special treat. Great trip back to a simpler time with a simpler sound, that’s better to me, a simple woman :)

    1976 - The old Paramount theater in Portland Oregon, my first live Buffett experience! I was 16 and went with my dad who loved JB's music. Been a fan ever since. (dad bought me a beer, don't tell mom, ha-ha). Loved the old Paramount, the head was downstairs in the basement and you could barely see through the clouds of weed smoke (back when concerts affordable). 'Grubbin' on the living room floor, so sore"!

      @tednottodd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Paramount was a dump back then. Great place to see a show, then the Schnitzers came in and ruined everything by fixing it up. :)

    Glad you posted. I was lucky enough to be at the show and some shows in San Jose in the 70's. Was disappointed that he went establishment and hype. Thought he was at his best back then, singing in his shorts, as the audience relaxed drinking beer around little tables. Thanks for the rewind.

      To an extent I agree, but you couldn't really expect him to stay in a time warp,particularly as his income has never come from record/cd sales, his huge American summer tours made his income , yes before the Mville Empire came along.

    My favorite time I heard Jim play was at Louie's back yard. I lived two doors down, Jim rented an apt in the house next to Louie's. I was sitting at a table, eating, he came through the gate with his guitar, played ate, drank for the few of us neighborhood locals who happened to be there. About 1973 or '74. I was 18.

    My god I love this because this is the Jimmy Buffett I discovered in the mid 70s before the concerts turned into a costume show. One of the things I miss the most is Jimmy stopping in between songs and telling stories. His concerts are still a blast and I recommend everyone see him Live and enjoy the show going on in the audience !!!

    • @robertcudlipp3426
      @robertcudlipp3426 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Both iterations were great. Sometimes the very large venues make telling the stories behind the songs becomes far more difficult.

      Y'all I'm right there with you. The 70's were great with Jimmy. I'm 70 and my wife just passed so I am in that part of my life all over again. If I'm having an emotional day I pop a brew or fire up the blender and go to God's Own Drunk and then Come Monday. This gentleman (I use the term with a lot of 🩶 grew area) has perfect timing in my life.

      I saw him at Merriwether Post Pavilion around 1980, a nice-sized venue but still somewhat intimate. Fins was the big tune, beach balls flew around, not too many costumes at that time. Even though we could only afford the lawn, he played to everyone. And he was quite visible.
      Then we saw him at another early 90s concert at the Nissan Center, Philadelphia. While I loved hearing him, I could only see him on the Jumbo tron, which I did not enjoy. The place was packed, a mob of fans.
      Sure would have loved to have seen him in a setting like this!
