    If you don't want to do much modding I think the AX24 is great. Especially for the price. But when you switch out the servos and motor for better ones the price quickly goes up. You could build a very nice SCX24 from scratch with all metal parts about 250$. And that price goes down for every part that you already might have laying around.

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, the ax24 is a lot of fun and pretty capable out the box but if you are someone who upgrades or mods their rigs pretty much right away then it’s tough to decide between buying one or starting a scratch build with 4ws 👍🏻

    Excellent comparison... I have to admit, I'm more intrigued about the AX than I thought I would be. Looks like the only disadvantage the AX had was the front shocks unloading a few times to get a little top heavy in front. It looks like Axial did put alot of thought into the design. Great video, thanks.

      Glad you enjoyed it! I was pleasantly surprised by the AX24 as well, and I think you nailed it, the soft shocks unloading because of the weight up high is basically the only real issue I’m seeing in the first couple runs with it 🤘🏼

    Just bought an AX
    Don’t live near rc shops and amain/online/Amazon will be used once I break parts. I don’t like immediately upgrading
    ANYWAYS - I put a hair tie on the front end to eliminate the backflip/top heavy / loosing grip on inclines
    Also I know it’s not professional, but until weighted knuckles, I taped some nickels to the front rims

    I owned the original AX-10 Scorpion , it's identical exept for the 4ws , try flipping the shock towers upside down to get the weight down low & run firm springs in the rear & medium up front !! This set up will keep it from torque twisting as it climbs & personally I would figure out a way to put tire weights inside the tires wrapped around the rims also put a regular 1/24th body on it would look cool .! 1 question for you ? which tires are taller the stock 1s or Mudslingers ??? Peace !!

      The AX24 ESC does not allow independent rear steering only, although using a separate switch is not as ergonomic as toggling between steering modes like the AX can. Also the AX24 ESC doesn’t have the same kind of smooth slow speed control that the V2 electronics in the scx24 has, I think either option is good though 👍🏻

    can you estimate the price difference between turning an scx24 into this compared to buying a new ax24? i like the ax24 but your version of the scx24 looks cooler and has better rear steer functions

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the scx24 base price for either the c10 or jeep JLU will run around $120 the other parts needed I’ll list out for you based on prices on Amazon for the cheapest option that will work, Metal versions of these are available too if you want to upgrade them but I’ll keep it basic 👍🏻
      Scx24 front axle for rear steer conversion: $32
      INJORA steering servo w/ servo mount: $21
      INJORA buggy body: $30
      So about $193 to get the basic rear steer buggy I built, I’ve added upgraded wheels/ tires high clearance links etc. but those aren’t needed, I just added them for my style of build. Hope this helps 😎👍🏻

    3:50 I wish you had explained what it needs for 4 WS, thats keeping me away, do i have to buy a expensive radio, and especially - do i need reversed servos, where do i find them when i want to upgrade servos ? Watched a video how to reverse a servo theres a lot of tiny soldering involved, you might ruin it. That would have been basic information necessary. Usually you need either an expensive Radio or some special 4WS controller.

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The electronics (ESC & receiver) and radio are all stock v2 scx24 electronics. There was no soldering or wiring etc. need for this 4ws mod. All I did was install a stock scx24 front steering axel on the rear of the vehicle with a stock steering servo and plugged the servo into the channel 3 spot on the ESC, this will allow the servo to be manually switched to either full lock left/center/full lock right positions using the channel 3 switch on the stock controller. Sorry for the confusion, it’s a very simple mod that is fun and effective. There are many other ways to get rear steering on a vehicle that has more precise controls but those require more money and other parts to accomplish similarly to the way you described in your comment.
      Note: the steering servos in the video are technically upgraded to an Emax servo but stock servos will work exactly the same.

      I’m not sure why you lost power, I just plugged the servo into channel 3 on the stock ESC and it didn’t give me any problems. The servos I used were Emax servos so they might have a low power draw compared to the ones you might be running, if you have some stock servos laying around chuck those in and see if you are still loosing power, if you don’t then the servos you are running might just be to power hungry and the ESC can’t keep up 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I think if you wanna spend 100-300 on a modded scx24 then it will be better than an ax24 but for 160 dollars it's great and it comes with 4ws out of the box but with a few mods the ax24 would also be great.

      I agree! There are pros and cons to both options but for the money the ax24 is pretty awesome with out needing any upgrades or anything right out the box 😎👍🏻

    It's massively top heavy, esc is mediocre at best. Rubber steering links!!! Gotta love those bendy steering links!!
    A company like Axial has no excuse for producing a C- crawler at best. Spend a few hundred more and it can be much better.

    How do you get the v2 esc to rear steer. All the guides and videos I’ve seen say you have to use the v1 electronics

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plug the servo into the channel 3 spot on the ESC, make sure your lights are unplugged and move them to one of the other open channel spots so they don’t flick off and on when steering, you can also adjust the end points on channel 3 by rapid clicking the bind button on the remote 3 times then using the normal steering trim buttons, message me on Facebook or Instagram if you need some more details or help 😄👍🏻

      V1 is steered on a switch under the controller lid.
      V2 is steered on a switch w yo thumb.
      Both versions support rear steer but not so user friendly as the steering wheel does not control rear steer.

      It doesn’t fit an AX24 unfortunately but if your handy with modding I’m sure you could probably make it work 🤷🏻‍♂️

    The main difference in my opinion is that your modified scx24 look great, while the AX24 does not. The AX24‘s ugliness is its main downside!

    I think a good combo for a beginner would be the ax24 with the injora rock buggy chassis for an extra 30 bucks

    • @UpperLeftRC
      @UpperLeftRC  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jerryhermann7233

      The ax is a scx not the buggy. The buggy really cant be called a scx as the buggy roll cage is the chassis with scx suspension. Ok im nit picking a biy. Had that buggy chassis. Sold it to my brother. My ax blowes it away.
