I think the biggest giveaway that he knows he's made. It is watching Johnny Marr sing some of the lyrics which you rarely do. He knows he's hit the jackpot
0:21 - These Things Take Time 2:58 - What Difference Does It Make? 6:46 - The Hand That Rocks The Cradle 11:01 - Handsome Devil (starting with the iconic intro speech) 14:14 - Jeane 17:36 - Wonderful Woman 21:02 - Hand In Glove 24:09 - Miserable Lie
It was, yeah I think it was Andy's first gig if I'm not mistaken too which is mad. They're my favourite band. They are huge in the states too, in LA they have a Morrissey day haha
They played at the Hacienda three times in 1983. Their lightning-fast development is mapped over each of those three recordings. From formation to finish in less than five years.
If I was at this gig , it would’ve blown my mind! What v incredible riffs right out of the gate. And Moz is nearly fully formed but no one In the audience knows the songs yet or what lays in store for The Smiths after this gig.
My first exposure to the Smiths was Hatful of Hollow on cassette - liked them straightaway - but then I could hear the lyrics. If it had been at this concert, What difference & Handsome Devil, and Morrissey himself would definitely have captured my attention but I could have easily missed a lot of the lyrics and musicality. Songs all sounded different which would have been a plus, just together with the energy I hope I would have clocked them as having huge potential. But I wasn’t there and will never know. (And I once turned down a flat in Whalley Range because of the Miserable Lie lyric. 😂)
This is definitely one of those gigs that I wish I could say I was at. The flashpoint of GREATNESS. I know I would've realized it in that very moment--you have to remember that NOTHING like this was being played at that time. It was all heav metal BULLSHIT, at least it was in the states.
I repeat the only thing to be in 1983 is handsome, HANDSOME DEVIL
Johnny marr’s face is filled with joy, he knows he has found the right
band to go to the top

Wasn't this like their 3rd gig or something? 4 years later they'd be gone. But having changed British music forever

Maravilhoso esse Vídeo The Smiths meu amor Moz sempre lindo obrigado por Postar Santiago 💋❤️ Irene Pontes
The Rickenbacker is waiting to be purchased.. soon
Omg! The audience is ridiculously rude!! One or two people clapping? That’s straight up barbaric.
They were a new band...people didn't know the songs......pretty normal stuff. Band's don't have fans instantaneously.
This was their THIRD gig EVER. Cut them some slack.
26:57 what did he say at this part
I'm just a countrymile behind the road
