A Japanese person told me that even back in the 1940s and 50s Judo guys would shorten “good morning” from “Ohayogozaimasu” to “Osu” and it became a common way of greeting amongst martial artists and other guys playing sport. Kinda like saying g’day if you think about it.
Did some trad Aikido back in the day and they used to end each session by saying ‘Oss OniGuyShamas.’ Out of context I once asked a Japanese exchange student what it meant and he said ‘sounds like something a warrior would say.’ So I always assumed it was some old Samurai shit. Maybe a way of showing respect to your Diamyo?
