Love Chelsea!! Love her point of view, including not getting overexcited about stats and caring more about real world differences. And thanks to both of you for another GREAT video. Thank you for all that you do!
I have to disagree on the 7D MK II ISO 1600 comparison you had vs the A6000 and the 5D III. I preferred the sharpness of the later two compared to the less noise more mushy 7D MK II. Maybe that has to do with the processing?
Not to mention that if the 7D Mark II is Canon's newest offering, perhaps putting it up against an A7 series camera would be a more accurate comparison. Granted, the A7 series may be full-frame, but I think they would easily take the Canon with low light.
Agreed. There is a substantial amount of extra detail available in the a6000 picture. This allows the photographer to decide whether to value detail or a "clean" look.
sbrazenor2 You are speaking as if the full frame is inferior to the cropped in terms of low light. remember the 7Dii should not hold a candle to any full frame camera since it is a cropped framed cam... but in this test it did hold its own against the 5Diii... This might be a game changer in photography.
In the video you stated that the A6000 was processed in lightroom, while the 7Dii was processed through the Canon included software. Do you think that the Canon Software is adding noise reduction to the images when processing the 7Dii? Also, at 4:21. Obviously I cant see clearly, since I am just looking at the video, but it looked like the exposure is different. While there is more noise on the A6000 pic, there is more detail in the both of the zoom/focus rings. I see very little definition in the front ring on the 7d2 image
I know this is an older video, but I had to comment. I've been shooting with the 7D Mk II since it came out, and I've been shooting with the 6D much longer. Often take them both out together. I love them both, but in my experience, IQ on the 6D is head and shoulders above the 7D2. So for taking pictures of people and landscapes, I rely on the 6D. For sports and wildlife, it's the 7D2.
I borrowed a 7D Mark II from lensrentals.com and played with it at the Salton Sea photographing diving pelicans for hours. The 7D Mark II has the best autofocus system of any camera ever made. I've been shooting with a 1DX, and it's not too shabby when it comes to autofocus. But. I had far more keepers due to being in focus than I've had with the 1DX. Ever. The 7D2 makes me look like a better photographer. Gear does make a difference. And Tony, I like how you differentiate brands by their strengths. I'm seriously considering Canon for bird photography and Nikon for landscape and portrait. Thanks for your good work.
Tony Northrup I had the 70D and loved it .. now i have the 7dmkII .. and i love it for sports stills, its in a different league to the 70D but i really miss the touch screen for video work .. however you can set the viewing zoom to zoom in to full on the focus point with one press so i dont find it bad for checking for focus vs the touch screen on the 70D .. i intend to buy another used 70d for my video work i think
Hi Tony and Chelsea, great show thank you. I did a test today with Canon's new 100-400mm lens. I put the lens on my 70D and took a few shots of a sign board about 1000 ft away, then I put the lens on my new 7D Mk II and with identical settings shot the same target. On reviewing the photos side by side I noticed that the older 70D photos were sharper and much brighter than the shots taken on the 7D Mk II. This in my opinion should not be the case. Any ideas?
Hi Tony & Chelsea. I'm a beginner photographer. I brought a Rebel T7I and I was looking to upgrade possibility to the 7D Mark II. I mostly take walks thru our local parks here in Pennsylvania taking photo's, landscaping photos and motorcycle/ car racing shots. What do you think?
Might be almost year and a half, but thanks for the great review, Upgraded from the T6S to the 7D MkII and I;m very happy with it. You mention Eye-Fi and after using the wifi/CanonConnect app, I do appreciate the immediate shutter override when using Eye-Fi instead of the clumsy disconnect steps to regain control of the camera when transferring photos wirelessly.
Still shooting with my Canon 7D but also have the 7D MII which I have for paid shoots and am looking to get either a second MII or wait for the new 7DMIII or just wait and get the 5DM4.
Dear Tony....I would like to Know whether it is worth purchasing Canon 7D mark II ,is it possible to take Wildlife photography, bird photography, insect (macro) photography etc.How is picture quality of this camera.and also suggest me whether to purchase Full frame camera or Crop Body camera.
As many others have pointed out, the detail remaining in the higher ISO shots for the 7D Mark II is less than the other cameras it was compared to. Classic case of aggressive NR. Also, seeing as how you guys like DxO so much, I'm sure you'll change your tune when you read what they recently published about the 7D Mark II. Having said that, I own 3 Canon cameras (6D, 70D, and M), multiple lenses, a flash, and am a big fan of T&C. It's just that you guys missed the mark on this one.
Tony, Chelsea What about the Pentax K3 in comparison? In fact, Why is not Pentax ever mentioned on your show. I own the Ricoh GR and K3 and find them both to be very very satisfactory. And if you want a full frame, why not the 645z, medium format? People are raving about it. I really enjoy your show, but think you've been remiss regarding the Pentax/Ricoh gear. Keep up the great work Pat Gordon San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
How does the Canon 7d mk ii compare for indoor basketball against the Sony a6000? Without spending a ton on a full framework camera, what would you recommend? I do like the fact that there are so many lenses available for the Canon and nikons. In the price range of the 7d mk ii or less, what's your recommendation?
Aaagghhh! Just when I'm sold on getting the 7d you guys show me something better. And I havn't even watched the whole video. I need to win the lottery. You guys are great, thanks.
After your glowing reviews of the 7D Mark ii I was looking in that direction since I already have a Canon T5 with the kit lenses. But then you state that the Nikon D610 is full frame and a better camera and that it comes down to the lens. I was looking into the Tamron 70-200 F/2.8 and the Sigma 150-600 F/5-6.3 lenses. I mainly shoot wildlife, nature but am also trying to get into portraiture and video. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Keep up the great work and I just ordered your books SDP and Lightroom 6.
+Tony Northrup. Hi Tony, Chelsea. I am planning to purchase this camera but I ran into some trouble. I have no idea what kind of a lens to pick. I found Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens [...] Do you think it is a good match? Should I go for EF-S glass or EF? Lastly, can you please point me towards ideal glass for sports, wildlife, landscape, basically anything! Tamaron/ Canon/ or Sigma?
Still watching the noise comparisons at 6:40 and I'm afraid you are mostly comparing the noise reduction algorithms. Canon's processing (including in their raw converter) is very different than Lightroom one, and on the 7D Mark 2 sample you can clearly see NR artifacts. The NR is not done too badly tho, but this image is missing textures to make a good sample. I would recommend using dcraw for comparison without processing, like dcraw -w -M -o 0 (no color profile either in this case)
I see that the 7D mk.II is softer than the other cameras, when blown up. Soften down the other images and their shadow noise will be closer to the 7D mk.II's, to varying degrees.
hey tony buying my first love this camera doing concerts I'm a musician and sports I love this camera any recommendations you guys are great thx guys buying soon full frame or this one....
Is it just me, or does the canon's detail look a lot more smeared compared to the a6000? Look at 4:44 and 4:56. The second lens ring looks to have more knurling and the aperture hieroglyphics are slightly more clear on the Sony. At these high ISOs, there is always a detail:noise compromise, and Canon decided to go for less noisy, whereas Sony decided to go for more detail (and more noise). Let's be real, though. You can run noise reduction to make the Sony look like the Canon, but you can't make the Canon look like the Sony.
I'm not sure what camera to get. I'm torn between the canon 7d mark 2 and 5d mark 3. I'll be doing lots of wildlife photography and sports, but I'd also like to do astrophotography and landscapes. Also may do some wedding photography. What camera would you suggest? I'd like to get the canon 100-400 is ii lens? Maybe another 2 lenses, which ones should I get? Trying to be budget conscious. Thanks
Can you discuss more about using Canon EF lenses on asp-c cameras and addressing issues of the "reciprocal rule" and affect on lens aperture based on focal length in regard to full frame, too crop sensor cameras? For instance the 1.8 portrait lens and the 70-200mm f/ 2.8 use on crop cameras. Thanks again.
Nationstagnation Usually you'll apply the crop factor before the reciprocal rule, but it's not a strict rule; you can easily shoot slower and get sharp shots or shoot faster and get blurry shots.
Tony and Chelsea, thanks for all your hard work in these videos, they are a great help. Have your book and just ordered the buying guide, I sold my 7D for the 6D and now am torn looking at the new 7D Mark II. Not a pro and like to shoot everything, wildlife and landscapes. I have all L glass, 100 2.8, 200 2.8, 17-40 4.0, 24-105 4.0., your thoughts.
hey Tony &Chelsea, when we buy your LightRoom book (paperback), will we receive incomplete paperback? Because it says in the description that new chapters will be added. I'm assuming thats the ebook version. can you explain, please ?
Do you know how DXO comes up with their rating? For some reason they rate the sensor quality of the 7d mark ii pretty harshly which is strange because everyone reviewing it is really melting over the image quality improvements they are experiencing.
+tonyandchelseanorthrup should i get the 80d or 7d markii i want to get into wildlife but also casual shooting around my area i like to travel also. I am not a video person also what do you think
I really think the Canon RAW converter is applying noise reduction behind your back. Curious to see what it looks like once an Adobe Camera Raw update arrives.
Tony & Chelsea thanx for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us. I follow your channel regularly.I have both your books. I have one question - A full frame camera is anytime better than a cropped sensor one, therefore should I go for 7D mark II instead of 6D, or should I buy 5D mark III?. I do all sorts of photography from portraits to landscape to night to wildlife. Pls advise which one to buy for once n for all. Thanks in advance.
PLEASE get a Sony A77ii for some comparisons! It's definitely better in some respects, but lags in a few others, but I'd love to see you guys do a comparison between the A77ii, 7Dii, 70D and D7100. I know you buy you're own stuff so this seems like a long shot, but it's a really great camera! I'd like to see you review the Sony and Minolta lenses too (Minolta 80-200 2.8 HS is awesome for an old lens!). Nice job as usual though, thanks!
Hi Tony / Chelsea I am dissapointed how the 7d mii performed with a teleconverter, would you predict the same lack of sharpness with the 300mm f4 is l and a 1.4 teleconverter
Thank you , Tony and Chelsea. You guys give really great reviews , as well as , great tips. I own the 7d and 5d iii . I like shooting night ,land scape , and portrait photography. Because of the better focusing on the 7d ii , that you guys have explained , I will consider investing in one. I do have the budget for one. Thanks , again , for the info.
Hi guys, just watched this entire video... very informative and well done so thanks for that, love your easy to follow style. I have been toying with whether or not to get the 6D and 7Dmk2 as I can't afford both, I do a mixture of shooting but predominantly landscapes and macro ... I was quite surprised to hear you say that the IQ difference between both cameras is negligible.... do you still think this after having used the 7dmk2 more? I thought with the 6D being FF the IQ on landscapes would make a big difference over the 7dmk2. I would be coming from a 700D - the only thing which would be a bit disappointing is the lack of touch screen which I find brilliant on the 700D and totally understand why you like it so much as well Tony... but overall the 7dmk2 and the 6D would be a big improvement on my 700D wouldn't it? Thanks ever so much if you can get back to me on this.
I shoot 35% video: church sermons with my 70D every weekend and want to replace it with the 7Dii for all it's STILLs advantages. My Worry is:- How does the 7Dii handle keeping single face focus in this common situation: Preacher(prime subject) in the centre of the frame, choir of 7, 2feet behind him, camera 4 meters away with sigma 18-35 @35mm, f/1.8 to f/3.5. With the 70D I can either keep finger on touch screen doing manual track assist, or tapping on subject face of choice...
Tony...Thank you for your IQ comparisons. I have a question: In your comparisons were you comparing JPG shots from the 7D2 against RAW files from the other cameras, specifically the a6000?
Paul T We compared all raw files, however, Adobe hasn't released raw support for the 7D2, so I had to use different software. This goes into more detail: 7D Mk II Image Quality: Is it as bad as DxoMark says?
I'm considering upgrading from a 7D MkI to either a 7D MkII or a used 5D MkIII. I mainly shoot live bands in small clubs. Would the 7D MkII be enough of an improvement in low light to warrant it over saving up more for the 5D MkIII? I'm using a Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC, and I plan on getting a Sigma 18-35 1.8 and a Tamron 70-200 2.8 in the near future.
When testing the noise of the 7D Mk I, was the noise reduction option disabled? (C.Fn II-2 "High ISO speed noise reduction" > disable). I found that after disabling noise reduction in camera, the noise was "less horrible" (e.g. no more speckled bright spots scattered across the image) and cleaning up the noise in Lightroom or Photoshop yielded better results. Also, changing the noise settings in camera did not appear to change Lightroom's/ACR's noise-related sliders. Does this mean the camera is modifying the RAW file and not notifying LR/ACR of these modifications?
Hey guys!! I have a rebel t3i and I want to get into more serious photography, time lapses, star trails etc. but I don't want to break the bank and I have a couple canon lenses already!!
Hey Tony, Great show last night. Just wanted your comment on the recent DXO article regarding the 7D mk II where according to DXO it clearly falls behind the Sony A77 Mark 2 where you said that "canon made a better sensor dan sony". Thumbs up to Chelsea, Justin and yourself
Can the 7D Mk II shoot 4K Video and if so for what max length video? And, what do you have to do to set it up to shoot the 4K Video? I saw one video review claim that it could do it but I haven’t found any cam and documentation that it can do it to substantiate the reviewer‘s statement so I basically made corroboration if it can do it that it can.
since the canon seems like they have developed new sensor and used it on 7dmk ii, do you guys think that the canon will introduce new full frame camera like 5dmk iv or the long rumored 3d? i'm interested to hear what you guys think and what we should be expecting from the camera.
Hi Tony and Chelsea, do you have AF consistency issues with 7DII? Have you tested the AF consistency in a backlit situation? It is pretty common for BIF that has some brighter areas in the background. Do you feel the 7DII's AF accuracy is not consistent?
I kind of feel that way...I find it a bit slow in finding focus as well as tracking. Sometimes I wonder if I got a not so great one. I still love it though.
I love the 6D, but my frustration lies in the frame rate and focusing system. Maybe time for me to own a 2nd body, keep the 6D for portraits and landscape.
I'm looking for a recommendation for photographing skiing(bright sun to flat light & snow), my son skis and ski races. yes, bang for the buck is important. I'm looking at the 70D, 7D & 7D Mark II, I'm also open to other brands. Used or referbs are fine, could you make a recommendation with a starter lens combo?
+David J 7d Mark II all the way. It has the burst capabilities of a machine gun and outstanding colour reproduction. Most of the specs people talk about matter close to nothing in real world shooting. The best system is the one you feel most comfortable with nowadays, unless you only use a camera for a very specific use.
Loved your review! I'm in the market for a new DSLR, but trying to make up my mind between the Canon 5D MK3 or 7D MK2... I'm almost sold on the 7D, but still not 100% sure! I'd probably say that I'm mostly interested in landscape, probably some portrait, night time city and macro photography. Not interested in video at all. Definitely hugely into long exposure photography. What would you recommend? Open to suggestions if you're thinking hat Nikon might be a better option ;-) Thanks so much!
I want to be a wild life photographer. So which camera chould I buy? I am living in Bangladesh. And my family is middle class family. So budget is little bit poor. If i choose canon 7d mark ii, or Canon 6D, Nikon D610, or Nikon D750, or Nikon D7200 then which one is best for me as my budget? Because i am little bit poor budget person. Please give me best suggestion which is good for me Mr Tony. :-)
You keep mentioning that we should get the Panasonic GH4 if we mainly want to do video. Can you tell me what lens to buy with it? I mostly video my kids doing theater productions, many times in low light. Right now I have the Canon Rebel T4i and use the 18-135 STM lens. I have to admit, I don't use the reticulating screen or even the touch screen. I'm tempted to buy the 7D Mark II because I have that Canon lens, and I think the video would be an improvement over what I get now...and I'd have an awesome camera for photography, too. But you have me considering the GH4 because there's no 30 minute video limit. So...lens?
Looking at the video and I see that Tony´s cap and sweater has different textures and colors depending on POV and also in the test shoots on the monitor. Which camera is taking the full view and which is taking the close ups?
Just to clarify, I am currently using a 70D which as we know will not AF with the Canon 100-400mm lens. Did I hear you say that I would be able to use AF with the 7D (which will be in my hands on Weds.) with that lens or just the 400 prime with the apparent loss of a quality? Thanks.
Sandy Scott You can AF with that lens and a teleconverter, but you won't get any more detail out of it than without the TC. Basically, you're better of cropping.
Hello, hope i still get a answer on a already older video, I am a sport shooter, shooting with a 1DX, but i am looking for a backup camera, for indoor sports i think the 1dx is unbeatable, but for outdoor sport where range is the problem the 7Dii can maybe be a wonderfull back up, and that's where i have the question. for shooting football (soccer) i am using a sigma 120-300 with a 1.4 converter on it. but with a 7dii I could use the lens without the teleconverter, what would give me back a extra stop of light, and even more range, but, how can you compare the image quality from the 7Dii one stop in ISO less then the image quality of the 1dx? and what about the DOF? Thanks for the help.
Hi Tony and Chelsea, I shoot commercial aviation photography, would this be a good camera for that? And I currently have a Nikon, and not familiar at all with the camera's or anything about it, could you let me know if this is a good camera for that and what lens I should get that is maybe a 70-300 or such, and tell me maybe if there is a better choice for commercial aviation photography between Canon or Nikon and a lens too for commercial aviation photography! Thanks!
Tony, could you do a comparison between Sony A77 ii and Canon 7D Mark ii? Since Sony has better sensor and more focus points than 7D... as least they are good on papers as DXOmark said.
What do you think of the new Samsung NX1 which seems to be positioned as a competitor for the 7D MkII for Sports and Wildlife? 15fps, 205 phase-detection AF points and 209 contrast-detection points. with the bonus of 4K Video...
Ruellibilly We played with it at PhotoPlus, it seemed great. Lens selection is VERY limited, and I need to test the focus tracking. We're trying to get a review copy.
Currently testing Canon 70d. Primary subject is multi subject, animal sports/action. (Herding) Having real problems with focus of all subjects. Is the new 7d mk2 more able to handle this type of action?
Sue Fast If the problem is getting multiple subjects in focus at the same time, it's a depth-of-field issue. Raise the f/stop number to something higher. Check Chapter 4 in Stunning Digital Photography. But yes, the 7D Mk II has a way better focusing system than the 70D. The 70D has the same focusing system as the 7D, so check the numbers in this video for a comparison.
i purchase the 7d mark 2 . am i chose a good wildlife camera or not ? some one say that canon 7d m2 give some bad or soft image , what is ur opinion tony ??????????? i am really confused .....
Hi Tony I have 2 questions. I'm going to buy the Canon 7D MKII for Wildlife, Sports, Nature and mybe concert photography. Right now i have a Tamron 70-200 2.8, a 18-135mm and a 100mm Macro lens. As a camera I use a Canon 700D. My first question is, should i buy the 300mm f4 or the 400mm f5.6 for wildlife and sports? Which wideangle lens should i get? I hope you can help me :) Regards from Switzerland Dominik
GamerTierCasts I'd get the 400 f5.6 for wildlife and anything longer than the 70-200. Re: wideangles, I'm afraid I haven't tested APS-C superwides. You might consider the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 (check our review).
Hi guys, at least till recently some reviews have put Pentax ahead as the leaders in APS-C esp in image quality with K5iis and now K3. Sure they are not perfect machines but esp as system is much cheaper, has good build and handling and is more compact than Canon and has good range of true APS-C lenses why do Pentax not even get a mention from you? Just wondered - it could be an option for those on a tighter budget Anyway ... enjoying the channel content and presentation style. Great to see you both yet again avoided being over rehearsed for the live broadcast :-) Cheers
I also like how you go into detail about the results of your pictures, but I think that I am not alone in that I am an amateur photographer and would like to see how you get the settings on the cameras. I try to follow the manual but I would imagine you guys know how to do this and could show some of us. These cameras are getting more and more buttons, clicks, rotating dials, etc... lol
airpilikia To understand the settings, check Chapter 4 of my book Stunning Digital Photography (links in the description). There's no one set of settings that will fit any given situation.
Canon 7D mark II or Nikon D7200? Which one should I buy? I don't have wild life or sports photography passion. I would like to buy a camera for my personal purposes. Image quality is something what matters to me.. Please suggest..
T and C, I am a wedding photographer. Recently, I shot a wedding and my Nikon D800 went down and had to rely on my backup D7000. I was not happy with the low light focus and noise with the D7000. Typically shooting at iso 3200-Comparing the Cannon 7D mkII, to the D610, what would you suggest? I am open to brand switching... Thanks
I currently have the original 7D and use a Canon 70-200 2.8 II with (sometimes) a 2XIII. Where would you spend the money? 7DmkII or Canon EF 400 5.6? Primary subject - Wildlife. Thx
Hey Tony. Love your videos, really informational and entertaining. I am a teen amateur wildlife photographer with a low budget. Right now I have the Canon Powershot SX50 and really want to get a DSLR. I think I want the 7D but now with the Mark ii out I'm wondering if I should wait and save up for it and not get the 7D. I mainly shoot birds and want to get either the 400 f/5.6 or maybe a third party telephoto lens. Specifically the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3. Would really appreciate your thoughts!
I see you have a lot of experience. Please tell me, we want to shoot a feature film for the deaf. We talk through the hands ie with a gesture. I need to precise fingers to avoid blur. How do you advise me? Canon 7D, Panasonic GH4, Nikon D500?
+bella duffi The Sigma 18-35 f/1.8: sdp.io/s35. Also watch the Tutorial for this camera at sdp.io/tutorials; I recommend lenses and gear for the camera in that tutorial.
Hi Tony, ive watched a few of your vidoes about crop factor theres just one thing i cant get my head around, if the 7D MarkII can focus at F8 say with a F4 telephoto and 2x convertor, is this F8 just the camera setting because if you apply the crop factor to the aperture x1.6 then things just dont add up?
I think i may be in love with chelsea. Anyway, i think this is kind of starting to show how nikon has some catching up. Canons latest aps c offering is starting to approach some of the full frame options out there. Ive always been a nikon shooter though cause i like those extra few megapixels not to mention i mostly shoot landscapes/portraits. Im very curious to see more news about nikons upcoming full frame mirrorless
Yaaaaay for CANON!!!! So upset I missed the live viewing!! Wooowwww, well I have a huge decision to make now :( This new camera or the Samsung NX1!! Already have the 70D and a t3I, and being that I have all Canon Lens Mounts, I think I know now which direction I'm leaning to. Just soooo suprised at the new sensor, soon as a I saw that, I started drooling for the camera!! Thanks Tony and Chelsea you two are awesome!!
📷 Get the Canon 7D Mark II on Amazon at help.tc/7d2 📷
Thank you Tony & Chelsea.
Love Chelsea!! Love her point of view, including not getting overexcited about stats and caring more about real world differences. And thanks to both of you for another GREAT video. Thank you for all that you do!
Jamminn555 Thanks, and you're welcome!
I have to disagree on the 7D MK II ISO 1600 comparison you had vs the A6000 and the 5D III. I preferred the sharpness of the later two compared to the less noise more mushy 7D MK II. Maybe that has to do with the processing?
Could be. Tony did say the 7D2 was processed with the Canon software and the others with Adobe.
It could be the processing, or the different lens. It'll be more accurate when Adobe Camera Raw is updated for the 7D2.
Thanks for your good work.
Jim Keener Thanks, Jim!
Enjoyed the initial review. How are you finding the dynamic range?
BOTH of you are SOOOOO helpful! Semper Fi and THANK YOU!
Thanks. Still love my 7D1, but was thinking of A7R with lens adapter, but would miss FPS rate for action...may look at 7D2 now.
Still shooting with my Canon 7D but also have the 7D MII which I have for paid shoots and am looking to get either a second MII or wait for the new 7DMIII or just wait and get the 5DM4.
Tony, thank you for your quick response. I will continue to watch your videos as I found very useful information.
Nice review. You two work very well together.
Tony, Chelsea
What about the Pentax K3 in comparison? In fact, Why is not Pentax ever mentioned on your show. I own the Ricoh GR and K3 and find them both to be very
very satisfactory. And if you want a full frame, why not the 645z, medium format? People are raving about it.
I really enjoy your show, but think you've been remiss regarding the Pentax/Ricoh gear.
Keep up the great work
Pat Gordon

Tony Northrup Does the 7D Mark II work with an eyefi-card
What watch are you wearing Tony? Thanks for the review.
I just wish canon would drop the 1.6 crop factor and start 1.5 like everybody else. A lot of things would improve for the apsc cameras.
Tony it would be nice if you would go out in the field and do a video of bird shooting with the 7d mkll and the 400 mm 5.6
53fazer We have this: th-cam.com/video/lgurGidoSJs/w-d-xo.html
Thanks
Tony can you include a few link to the major retailers to purchase the camera? I'd love to use that to make my purchase. Thanks.
Tony DalBello Thanks, Tony! I'd only switch to the 7D Mark II from the 6D if you're frustrated with the focusing speed or frame rate.
hey Tony &Chelsea, when we buy your LightRoom book (paperback), will we receive incomplete paperback?
Curious to see what it looks like once an Adobe Camera Raw update arrives.
at 5:20 canon is better but softer, they got rid of noise compared to the sony but removed details from the image as well
I'm late to the party. I just got the Mark 2 after using the 7D for 12 years. I absolutely love the Mark 2, what a great camera.
How do you think this camera and the 400mm lens you recommended hold up for surfing photography
Hi Tony / Chelsea I am dissapointed how the 7d mii performed with a teleconverter, would you predict the same lack of sharpness with the 300mm f4 is l and a 1.4 teleconverter
would putting the shutter in quiet mode make the pictures clearer?
Thank you , Tony and Chelsea. You guys give really great reviews , as well as , great tips. I own the 7d and 5d iii . I like shooting night ,land scape , and portrait photography. Because of the better focusing on the 7d ii , that you guys have explained , I will consider investing in one. I do have the budget for one. Thanks , again , for the info.
Which lense would you suggest for this one. I want an all purpose but performing lense and my budget is around $800.
My Worry is:- How does the 7Dii handle keeping single face focus in this common situation:
Preacher(prime subject) in the centre of the frame, choir of 7, 2feet behind him, camera 4 meters away with sigma 18-35 @35mm, f/1.8 to f/3.5.
Did the Noise pictures have ANY noise reduction done to them in camera or in post?
Paul Balchin We followed up here: 7D Mk II Image Quality: Is it as bad as DxoMark says?
Hey guys!! I have a rebel t3i and I want to get into more serious photography, time lapses, star trails etc. but I don't want to break the bank and I have a couple canon lenses already!!
The 600D is a rebel t3i in the Merica
Hey Tony,
Great show last night.
And the 7D Mk II versus the 70D does the 70D do 4K video and if so for how long etc.
since the canon seems like they have developed new sensor and used it on 7dmk ii, do you guys think that the canon will introduce new full frame camera like 5dmk iv or the long rumored 3d? i'm interested to hear what you guys think and what we should be expecting from the camera.
036hockey I think we'll see a 5D Mark IV with similar sensor efficiency, putting it close to the D810. Just a guess, or maybe a dream :).
Really Like to see some action shots I have seen what the D750 delivers and it is impressive. but cant find a 7DM2 review on its action review.
Tony, you always have the best reviews. Keep up the good work. Would a 35 mm be a good portrait lens.
Tony Northrup what is your thoughts on the 7d2 vs the Nikon d750 for a few hundred more dollars for an action/wildlife and occasionally landscape?
Levi, looking to go big $ camera?
I want to be a wild life photographer. So which camera chould I buy? I am living in Bangladesh. And my family is middle class family. So budget is little bit poor. If i choose canon 7d mark ii, or Canon 6D, Nikon D610, or Nikon D750, or Nikon D7200 then which one is best for me as my budget? Because i am little bit poor budget person. Please give me best suggestion which is good for me Mr Tony. :-)
Hi Tony, are you going to pull this video clip?
Wow!! finally...... when will the 5D MkIV come out?!
So...lens?
Im pretty sure the panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 lense is one of the best choices, it's pretty expensive though.
Looking at the video and I see that Tony´s cap and sweater has different textures and colors depending on POV and also in the test shoots on the monitor. Which camera is taking the full view and which is taking the close ups?
tjompen1968 They're all GH2s but with different lenses. It might be the angle of the lighting, too.
Thanks Tony, it does work great!
Thanks!
Great chemistry between you two, great info, of course! Keep it up.
Thank you! Looking forward to your review!
Tony & Chelsea - Very informative! What would you recommend as the best sports camera 1D mark IV or 7D Mark II?
Check sdp.io/whichcamera, but also watch our reviews of the Sony a9, which is a better camera for many.
Thanks! I saw the A9 (great Camera), but I have too much invested in Canon EF glass to shift gears. Also ... looking to spend about $2800.
What did you decide? I have a T6i and looking to upgrade to 7DM2
i purchase the 7d mark 2 . am i chose a good wildlife camera or not ? some one say that canon 7d m2 give some bad or soft image ,
what is ur opinion tony ??????????? i am really confused .....
***** The 7D Mk II is the best wildlife camera in the world, IMO. We have one of everything here, and we always grab the 7D2 for wildlife.
Hi Tony
I have 2 questions.
I hope you can help me :)
Regards from Switzerland
Dominik
GamerTierCasts I'd get the 400 f5.6 for wildlife and anything longer than the 70-200. Re: wideangles, I'm afraid I haven't tested APS-C superwides. You might consider the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 (check our review).
Did you use back button focusing?
Hi guys, at least till recently some reviews have put Pentax ahead as the leaders in APS-C esp in image quality with K5iis and now K3. Sure they are not perfect machines but esp as system is much cheaper, has good build and handling and is more compact than Canon and has good range of true APS-C lenses why do Pentax not even get a mention from you? Just wondered - it could be an option for those on a tighter budget
Anyway ... enjoying the channel content and presentation style. Great to see you both yet again avoided being over rehearsed for the live broadcast :-)
Cheers
Great review
I wanna get a wildlife lens, there are 2 I like tamron 150-600 and new sigma sports 150-600 what's your advise? Tony
I'm wondering: Has your opinion of this camera changed 8 years later? I am looking to upgrade to this one. Thanks!
Still an amazing camera.
Tony Northrup Thanks
Canon 7D mark II or Nikon D7200? Which one should I buy? I don't have wild life or sports photography passion. I would like to buy a camera for my personal purposes. Image quality is something what matters to me.. Please suggest..
Canon 6D, Nikon 750
T and C, I am a wedding photographer. Recently, I shot a wedding and my Nikon D800 went down and had to rely on my backup D7000. I was not happy with the low light focus and noise with the D7000. Typically shooting at iso 3200-Comparing the Cannon 7D mkII, to the D610, what would you suggest? I am open to brand switching... Thanks
Jenna McElroy A D750 (sdp.io/d750) or D810 (sdp.io/d810). Thanks!
Tony Northrup Thanks! D750 is more within the budget... That was under consideration as well. Your opinion is appreciated!
could you do a comparison between this and the a77ii
I currently have the original 7D and use a Canon 70-200 2.8 II with (sometimes) a 2XIII.
Where would you spend the money? 7DmkII or Canon EF 400 5.6?
Primary subject - Wildlife.
Thx
Alex H Get the lens! sdp.io/c400
Hi Tony, Canond7mkII will be my first ever dslr. I'm interested in landscape and astrophotography. Which lenses do you suggest?
+bella duffi The Sigma 18-35 f/1.8: sdp.io/s35. Also watch the Tutorial for this camera at sdp.io/tutorials; I recommend lenses and gear for the camera in that tutorial.
Hi Tony, ive watched a few of your vidoes about crop factor theres just one thing i cant get my head around, if the 7D MarkII can focus at F8 say with a F4 telephoto and 2x convertor, is this F8 just the camera setting because if you apply the crop factor to the aperture x1.6 then things just dont add up?
Paul Atherton it's f/8 with the teleconverter's 1.4 or 2x conversion, but without the crop factor included.
I just bought a new Canon 7D MkII for a $1030. Now looking forward to shooting wildlife with the camera.
How do you think this compares to the Pentax k-3?
Still worth buying in 2018?
How does the 7d Mk2 compare to the Nikon D750 please?
