Rugby is taken VERY seriously at school level at the Afrikaans South African schools. Huge money(sometimes shamefully) are invested in our school rugby systems by private investors. It’s scary

I remember playing Grey Bloem's lower teams - I was at Grey High in the 7th team in 2006 and lost that game 90 - 0. I then watched the 6th team run out and in the first scrum, the prop pulled his hamstring badly - back on for me. We lost that game, 96 - 0. After the third try of that game, I stopped running back under the poles - telling the Ref - you can run in my place, but I'm just going to wait for the restart here. You understand, it's more like cross country than rugby at the moment.
Their forwards were faster than our backs - and were used to those veld, fields of stones and little grass.
Did watch our XV win in 2004 though, will never forget that day!

Good memories there mate. I remember Grey High School toured Zimbabwe during Craven Week in 1999 and played Prince Edward School (regular tourists to Zimbabwe). I was quite impressed by what I saw of the Grey High School lads and further disheartened to learn that they were not even a top 5 rugby school in SA. But their level of organisation impressed me none the less. I think South African schoolboy rugby is in very good hands for sure
