I think you need to do videos like this one full time. You have done an amazing job describing each step in setting up the Ugreen NAS and I REALLY loved the RSync from the Main NAS to the Backup NAS.
Great video. One thing I wanted to note was on the link aggregation--this does not increase the physical link speed; you can't increase the physical limitations of a network adapter by grouping it into a single logical link. Instead, link aggregation allows for higher throughput, which still increases the perceived "speed" to the user, but it will not grant a "20Gb" interface. You're maintaining the 10Gb link speed across both adapters but have two pathways to input the data to the NAS (bandwidth increases, not speed).
Bought a UG NAS and leaving Dropbox, would you please make a tutorial video for sync or back up ALL data from Dropbox to UG, that's lot people who has UG struggling for. thank you.
Thank you for this great Video, but let me ask one question. In the Video you describe that you use 2 NVMEs for the read and write cache. The size of the NVMEs you use are 1TB but you selected for the cache a size of just 600GB. Now my question is, can you use the 400GB as a Volume for Virtual Machines and or Docker ? This would be an great option for me.
Thank you for the informative videos! Getting so excited to receive mine next month! Regarding the Network Bridging feature, please correct me if I'm wrong. This means you can plug your 10G-ready computer into one 10G port on NAS, then the other port is connected to a 10G port on your 10G switch, and your 10G-ready computer would then be connected to your network at 10G speed? It's effectively connecting THRU the NAS to the rest of the network?
Can you make another video explaining the different ways to connect to the Ugreen NAS at a remote location? I can't seem to find any other video's explaining how to do this with the UGOS. And I myself am very new to the whole NAS experience. I am currently running a DXP 4800 Plus myself :)
Both of these videos have been so helpful in setting up my NAS. Most recently I've come back to this video to setup my SSD's and I am curious about one thing. Now when I dump media (I'm a filmmaker and manage a lot of media, also new to NAS) I am noticing that the files are greyed out. Not all but many tend to be greyed out. I can still access to media from the finder or within Premiere. I assumed this meant that the files are being stored on one of the SSD's giving me faster speed but would eventually move on to the spinning drives. Is that how that is supposed to work? Also, I imagine the SSD will fill up relatively quickly if this is the case. Then what? How do I remove media from the SSD but keep the same system in place? For instance is it possible to set the SSD to move the oldest media off of the SSD and on to the main drives once it is full, making room for new media?
Hmmm. I'm not sure about that one. I don't think it would be related to the files being temporarily stored on the SSD as I don't think the NAS would report that information back to MacOS. It could just be the NAS not keeping up with how fast Finder is asking for thing. Are you connected with a wired connection, or wireless? The SSDs will run themselves and will only really be used when copying large amounts of data and the spinning drives are unable to keep up. I would just sit back, relax, and use your NAS like normal, knowing that the SSD cache is doing its job.
@@forestchaput Yeah, it's odd to me that they are still greyed out. Maybe a hard reset will help. I have to dump more footage later today so that will be an additional test I guess. Based on the storage data on the SSD, I can tell that the media I added the other day is on there, I just want to be sure that it is making it's way to the spinning disk storage and not just sitting on the SSD. Thanks again.
Question for you @ Rocky Mountain School of Photography. When accessing files remotely, do you have to download the file to work on it then upload back onto the NAS? Or can you simply open the file, and work on it, and quick save as you're working, as if the NAS is an extension of your desktop? Question about backing up your NAS to another NAS offsite. Can I use a different NAS other than UGREEN? Is it difficult to sync if it's not another UGREEN? Also, If I decide to use another UGREEN NAS, does it have to be the same size as the main one? I just order the 6-Bay UGREEN. Could I get the 4-BAY as the backup as long as the hard drive space on the 4-BAY is equal or greater to my main 6-Bay? Your videos on this NAS system are supper informative! Thanks in advance!
That depends. If you setup a VPN, you can VPN into your home network and access the NAS as if you were sitting at home. If you don't want to go that route, you can just use the Ugreen web browser which yes, would require you to download, edit, then re-upload to the NAS. As of right now, the Ugreen can only back up to another Ugreen. I imagine they are working on support for other brands though. Mixing bay numbers is completely fine so long as there is enough capacity on the target NAS.
So you have had this Ugreen NAS for about three months now and I see Ugreen is now just starting to sell these NAS from their website, but the price of 6800pro is $1199.00 (not the $999.00) they were saying it would be. But my BIG question is are you still using the Ugreen 6800Pro and how is it working for you? I want to get one but I need to know people are happy with the NAS, I really like the hardware and upgradeability.
Quick question, all this completely new to me but loving all of the process and learning curve of it all. I originally set up my DXP480T Plus very low I know now (4 pieces 1TB WD red on RAID 5) been using them for about 2 weeks now and obviously after dumping all of my clients files work, personal movie and music collection and setting up me and my wife's phones camera roll to upload into the NAS, it is getting very low in space. My question to you, Can I swap out 2 of the originally installed 1TB and replace them with 2 new 4TB having in 2pcs 4TB and 2pcs 1TB running in without trouble? Or the best bet would be to jump into 4 new 4TB and find a new usage for the 4pcs 1TB. BTW, my apologies for the looong explanation. Thnx in advance.
You can swap drives, but you need to do it one at a time, allowing the system to rebuild the RAID array after each drive. It's time consuming and I don't really recommend it. Also, if one of the drives dies during the rebuild, you lose all of your data so ensure you have everything backed up properly.
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to reply-it means a lot. I ended up biting the bullet and ordered four 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSDs. Planning on swapping all cards on the NAS and starting it from scratch, it only makes sense to maximize the space on the it after making the investment, this way I can really take advantage of having it and make better use of it. I appreciate your advice once again.
I only have a network extender right now and I do have a nighthawk X10 but it would need a fiber connection adapter to work then I would have to bridge that to my network....
3:41 Why only 600? What about the remaining 300? Can you use them separately and create another Volume? On the right it says something about the 80%... Could you explain this? Thanks!:)
New to NASync. Just got the DXP6800 and wondering if the only way to upload media into, Sharepoint, dropbox, wetransfer etc... is by downloading the media?
I think that's currently the only way on the UGreenOS. You could install a 3rd party OS like TrueNAS which would give you that ability natively though.
Thank you for this! I have the UGREEN 8 bay and so far it's great. I have these old Terramaster 5 drive bay enclosures that I have been using with SoftRAID on my Mac. I just cleared one entirely and am wondering if there's any feasible way to have the UGREEN software (VM maybe?) RAID them independently of the internal RAID and let me access them through the UGREEN's own USB ports? This way I can use them to dump backups from my NAS itself.
Isnt it faster to check the new HDD via disk sentinel connected to pc befoire putting it in the nas? Or does the NAS do a very extensive test? Asking because i bought new drives and quick test showed 0 hours and no faults.
I ended up going to micro center and buying the wrong switch apparently they don't have any managed switches that are multigabit. So now I have a Netgear switch that is not capable of link aggregation. I was going to add another computer to the network switch to edit with the NAS. However I think I will have to return this one and find a managed switch
@@forestchaput it's all good 👍 I make plenty of mistakes and have found out how to not be too hard on myself. I wish I would have learned it earlier. I know this may be a really dumb question, but I cannot find the IP address of the NAS to access it offsite through SMB. I see the local, but nothing I type in to connect via Finder is working. Ugreen support is useless. If anyone has insight to this, please help.
Hmmm. Are you trying to access through Finder from a different network? If so, you will need to setup a VPN to your home network first. Remote access through the browser is much easier.
For the Remote Access, is it that only one ugreen account can be linked to the account? So if I wanted other people to be able to access their limited folders, it won’t work over remote access unless they use my account?
That's a wonderful question. They don't need to be part of your account, but they will access the NAS through their web browser at the same URL you use. They will just use their own login credentials to access their limited folders.
@@forestchaput Thanks! I'm really considering getting it. I was a little too slow to go for the early bird kickstart. Hopefully the global release happens soon.
