    I love beans and soak them in water with baking soda overnight. I rinse them well next day. The baking soda cuts gas way down. Hope this is helpful for you.

    I'm from Nigeria and yes, we love beans😀. Personally it's my favourite thing to eat. We eat it with rice, bread, sweet potato, plantain, etc. We also blend it and make bean cakes and bean fritters. It's the diabetes meal of choice in Nigeria and typically diabetics eat it on it's own in pottage or porridge form. Hits the spot every single time 😋😉

    I am of Indian (India) origin, living in U S A for over 45 years. I am vegetarian. But we us We make curries with split dry beans, add vegetables to them. And we sprout the beans (like Moong, Lentils, Chickpeas, green peas etc. For sprouting, put them in water for about 6 to 8 hours, then place them on a cotton cloth and tie them, cover them under a cover and keep it in a warm place for another 8 to 10 hours. Then we cook them with seasonings and spices or mix them uncooked in the salads. Dr. Ergin I regularly watch your Videos. They are very very helpful. You explain every thing very nice way. Please keep it up. Thank you so much for all the advice.

    I don't know why this wasn't mentioned, but soaking beans overnight will release the gases. On the slow carb diet, you eat half of cup of beans minimum every meal, so thats a LOT of beans. I've never experienced gas issues after soaking them everynight. And its practical too, cause you can soak and cook one big batch of beans all at once. May be anecdotal, but it literally works for me.

    I lost 130lbs eating mainly beans out of a can. I would eat a piece of meat with it or cheese. I also drank a lot of water. Beans are bland yet have protein, fiber, and carbs. You don't crave un-spiced beans. I ate them slowly, didn't fret over what I was going to eat. Sometimes I would eat a couple scoops of peanut butter instead. And I even ate a lot of frozen Bean and Cheese burritos and still lost weight.

    My favorite food is Rice & Beans with Sausage and Cornbread. I would eat it 5-6 days a week. If I had only 1 food to eat, it would be Rice & Beans. Got type 2 diabetes and had cut them out, cold turkey. I hate diabetes because I can't eat my favorite food. Wish there was a pill that would let me eat Rice & Beans.

    As a type 2 diabetic (not obese, 5ft8 male 155 lbs bf 18-20%...can't see abs but not much belly fat), is 1/3 cup of beans a good serving per day? Is it worth it to prepare and cook such a small amount? I'm on a low carb diet (but I take net carbs/fiber into account) but will eat slightly more carbs if I plan to be active about 20-30 minutes after the meal (to start burning energy and lower blood glucose) levels.

    Thanks for your presentation on beans. My question: Does your advice refer to ALL beans? I ask because I use "black" beans more than any other, so I'm keen to find out. Also, I'm told that persons with kidney problems should stay away from foods with potassium but I imagine the "quantity" of potassium one consumes may be the over-riding factor. What are your thoughts?

    • @Hubbard61
      @Hubbard61 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Different beans have different glycemic loads. Black beans and pinto beans fall in the mid range and 1 cup is fine. For other beans you might want to check glycemic index/load. Soybeans and lentils are low glycemic load due to their high protein content. There is also evidence that eating beans slows blood sugar spikes even in the next meal AFTER eating beans.

      Just drop a 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda while cooking and zero gas.. same if added to tomato sauce.

    I found that black beans don’t give me gas. So I eat a lot of black beans. Lentils, however, definitely has me passing gas all day.

    Really, you were showing a liquid measuring cup and you should be using weigh measure, for instance red kidney beans have 60 grams of carbs for 100 grams. Beans do not have bioavailable protein, no Vitamin B12 and the iron is not heme iron. The minerals and trace elements will depend on the soil. No one needs beans, in addition to spiking insulin it causes bloating and flatulence. There are absolutely NO RC studies to indicate that they prevent cancer. There are also no studies to indicate that red meat causes cancer, in fact red meat is truly a superfood and is made up of not only saturated fat, which the body recognizes and is essential but also has monounsaturated fats too. Fat is needed also for absorption of fat-soluble vitamins D, A, E and K2.

    Really disappointed a whole endocrinologist who deals with measures of nanomoles cannot measure in grams the amount of beans
    Instead he uses cup measures
    How big is a cup grande
