  • Let's Build a Hotrod MS291, this is my favorite small saw, but we can make it so much better. The stock dogs are terrible, the air filter, the muffler .... yea it needs some little things to make it perfect. I ordered some Chain Saw Kits from Westcoast Saws, let's make her rip! #westcoast saws, #Stihl Chainsaw, #MS291muffler mod #MS291 Dogs #Stihl Ms291 mod

I Greese the bar tip with a Greese pen, and take a framing tie piece ( flat Steel to tie boards together ( earthquake and wind) to clean the inside of the bar. Sure bar oil is important, but a good slot helps. I never use wd40, a gas rag on a untreated saw, then armor all to keep dust from hitting it again. Some other fellers say I am waxing it, I just want to keep the chips and dust away.

Always good to grease the bar tip, good idea on the Simpson tie to clean the bar. I think that would work great.

Is there a baffle inside the 1st chamber of the muffler that is a restriction such that creating the additional port does not allow more exhaust flow?

    • @ciphercode2298
      @ciphercode2298 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@jeffroberts760I've an older ms310 that's been muffler modded. It definitely makes a difference in power in the cut and imo the best benefit is that your saw will run alot cooler. I only run a 20" bar and it rips in oak. I think your 291 would run .325 chain whereas my ms310 runs 3/8. You'll still be some short on power, but if you can order a 24" bar and skiptooth from maybe baileysonline you can certainly do it. If you cant find that combo in .325 you can change over your clutch drum and sprocket to a 3/8" and order everything in that size

I had to pull the limiters out of the carb in order to turn the needles out far enough to ritchen the mixtures up. Plug looks great after about 15 tanks of fuel I pulled it. I actually run this little saw quite a bit.

Man I’ve got about 10 gallons of gas through mine in 2 and half years and haven’t had an issue. I flip my bar and blow it out with compressed air when I switch the chain but don’t feel like I’m doing anything special to keep it clean. It oils fine.

    Information:
As longer the bar is the more space to sideway flexability she gets. Smaller bars are safer in that light.
Im not certain but i assume the smaller the radius at the tip is the faster the chain could jump off. Because the turn the chain get forced in isnt long ebough to hold it in line, so to speak.
Maybe somebody tests that under safe conditions.
    Nice clip btw.

      @@workinonitsteve rewelcome.
Well i had yesterday a costumer who bought 2 Stihl MS170, he told me in the 3 .sentence that he is afraid of chainssaws.
I told him he has only to be rational concerned to be when the chain isnt in the tree or is not deep in wood because the chain rides in a channel in the bar and isnt willing to jump out. Especialy when some pressure is applyd the chain is forced to stay in track.
But otherwise forced in high speeds the momentum forces the chain almost out of the channel.
A hard twist and the lose chain flyes...
He made up his mind and took the saws.
How did your accident exactly happen?

Huge difference. Much faster throttle response and seems to have more power although I have no way to measure that. Overall it just went from a decent saw to snappy throttle and seems to cut faster. For some reason it seems to start easier now, could just be from the-tuning but I’ll take it.
