After all the horrors endured on the show, Shu never wavers in his perception that life is worth living. Now and Then, Here and There is a testament to the human spirit.

@@mrtey7283 This is not a show for young children, IMO, which Miyazaki's movies are. The intended audience is completely different. The story IS better than any Miyazaki movie in any case.
@@cunningsmile4166 I love love Miyazaki's movies, but I vaguely remember someone prominent (I think it was Evangelion director Anno Hideaki) saying that Ghibli films are more like idealized interpretation of real life. They're beautiful to look at, poignant, and nostalgic, but ultimately it's all fantasy. It doesn't touch on the real evils of the world & suffering of people the way this anime does. No romanticizing, just harsh reality. Yes, there's Grave of the Fireflies, but that's an exception in the Ghibli catalogue.

I remember feeling the same way when I finished it a few years ago. Whenever I look back on this series, I remember that void it gave me is still there.
that first music makes me remember dat kind of sweet happiness even when you're very aware of your ONLY leading a very ordinary life where there must be some very small things that can make you smile and enjoyable. We usually call this a kind of ''romantic life'' that looks simple but full of happiness so you already feel satisfied and glad overall.
I really enjoy this anime back then, even rewatched it a few times and still gets me with all the bits...god damn i can't listen to this without feeling like crying. Damn you Taku Iwasaki!!
This brings back memories of the children that the young girl chose to stay behind and raise... wow such a tragically good show makes me cry just thinking about it.
Cada vez que recuerdo este anime y escucho esta melodía, siento una presión muy fuerte en el pecho y me es imposible no llorar. Una obra que deja un mensaje muy importante y muy potente, no perder NUNCA la esperanza.
Make sure to give credit where credit is due as the first part is taken from Rachminoff's 2nd Symphony. However, Iwasaki Taku implemented it wonderfully into this composition, creating something very wonderful. A round of cheerful applause in admiration from me.

It's funny. This anime is among the most horrible yet beautiful shows I've ever watched. It really manages to create that kind of nostagia that even the worst of times can bring. Made me feel like living and dying at the same time.
I didn’t expect this anime to be so tragic😢. Seriously tho how is shu and sara suppose to live their lives after seeing all the chaos that they went through
This is an absolute masterpiece of a song. I love the touch of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2 Adagio in there. However, there seems to be one brief piece of music from this anime that I can't find ANYWHERE. It's from the moment in the middle of episode 8 when Shu and Lala-Ru take off on the bike at night. It was a calming and atmospheric song that had a nice 80s/90s vibe to it, but it's not featured in the official soundtrack. :C

does someone have the name of each movement? i love the last mvmt - (spoiler:) when it played during lala ru's final moments I really hoped she would still have some life remaining, but alas...
I guess they're also not played quite the same either. This rendition is deliberate and the tempo is slightly changed. And the piano is a great effect, I don't think it's originally in Rachmaninoff's Symphony?
