Good tips. I have been down-sizing a lot lately, so I have been donating lots of quality yarn and fabric, enough to make a whole sweater or a dress. A few years ago I did sell some extra craft items on ebay, but now I prefer to donate to charity/thrift stores. I like that other people get to use items that I am not using, rather than letting these items go unused in my storage, and the charity makes a bit of money as well. I also donate cotton scraps to a local charity that makes quilts for children. There are also knitting/crochet charities that make blankets, hats and other clothing for people in need. They can always use yarn. Thanks, Rachel.
Always good to be reminded about some of these things. L really like the seasonal wardrobe edit idea. The most recent tank top I knitted was made from wool unraveled from another jumper that I’d knitted. It was the most badly fitting jumper ever so it had to become something else!
Thanks for the tips, Rachel. It's always a good idea to go through your clothes every season. Since I can't fit all my clothes in my room, I do a seasonal swap in the spring and in the fall. To be honest, sometimes I forget what I own, so I always try and do an inventory before I get too excited and buy something new. I've also started to invest in better quality clothes as I've gotten older and I've bought one nice merino wool sweater every fall for the past 4 years. I'm also quite obsessed with reading the composition labels in clothes which is how I was able to determine my perfect jeans formula for long-term wear: 98% cotton, 2% spandex. I've found these jeans have lasted the test of time, versus those with polyester which get stretched out after 2-3 years. Hope these tips are helpful. 😊
I tend to get bedsheets from the op shop as fabric because they usually have a label of what it’s made of on it. Also I reuse fabric if I don’t like the fit of something and make it into a safe item.
Linen is great because it works in all seasons. If you’re a confident sewist I’d try viscose as it’s lovely and soft. Not particularly warm though. I also love double gauze which works well for all weathers like linen too!
Glad to view your video, I am going to a talk by Patrick Grant from Sewing Bee talk about similar matters and how wasteful the fashion industry is, my daughter bought us tickets for my birthday, we both love a good charity haul. Thanks for sharing x
Oh lucky you! I just heard him speak at Goodwood Revival and he was so good. I bought his book all about it and can’t wait to read it. Have a great time! ❤️
Gardener & homestead ? It’s obviously not your tiny garden you are talking about, do you have an allotment or something? How do you manage all that with your health? We’ve got land but now rent it out as it’s too much for me 😢
Yes mini homesteader in our very small garden! We grow food, cook everything from scratch, I make all my own clothes and we forage lots in the countryside around the house. I’m a big believer in homesteading where you are right now. You don’t have to own lots of land. Everyone can do little bits and I try to do as much as I can despite size of our home and my health. I really reccomend Farmhouse on Boone’s channel! She homesteaded for years in a small home and garden before moving to a bigger plot ☺️
What chronic illness do you have . I have Endometriosis and mental health issues , but my dr thinks there's something much bigger wrong with my health to , so I'm waiting to see a specialist.
So sorry that sounds really tough 😔 I have fibromyalgia, M.E., IBS, Endometriosis and now long covid 🤪 a fun cocktail of illnesses but doing my best to live well despite it all!

Great to repurpose things isn’t it?

Yes this is so true! Very helpful to have that label telling you what the fabric content is ☺️
My granny and aunt used to knit/crochet for charity by reusing wool, from unpicked jumpers etc. great memories of re-balling wool/yarn 😂
Haha yes the older generation were much better at this! Need to get back into that mindset!
I just bought fabric from Mood fabrics. It is Merino\tencel to make a jumper for winter. It’s hard to find Merino fabric.
Oh lovely! sounds gorgeous! Yes it is mood is great though ❤️
I love seeing your makes. They are always beautiful. 😊
Thank you lovely ❤️
I haven’t used much cotton material, what do you recommend for making dresses. I’ve mostly used linen. I would like to use more cotton fabric.

These are such great ideas.
